Summer Ballet Scheduled The Hampton Ballet Theatre School, celebrating nine years of quality dance education on the East End, will be performing the enchanting ballet Peter and the Wolf on August 4 at 6 PM at the Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton. It will be presented again at the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation at 240 Edgemere Street in Montauk on August 6 at 7 PM. This production is a collaboration between the Hampton Ballet Theatre School, the Hampton Festival Orchestra and celebrity guest narrator and East End radio personality Bonnie Grice, of public radio station WPPB. Peter and the Wolf, choreographed by the director of HBTS, Sara Jo Strickland, along with costumes by Yuka Silvera, will virtually come alive for the children of the East End community with the orchestra, ballet and narration. The ballet will be danced by the students of the Hampton Ballet Theatre School, who range from four to 18 years old. Guest artist Adam Baranello of A&G Dance Company will be dancing the part of the Grandfather. The score will be played by the 25-piece Hampton Festival Orchestra, a group of professional musicians who all hail from the East End and will be conducted by the passionate precision of Dr. Andrew Perea. The narration will be read by Grice. This ballet is a treat for all ages, as Sergei Prokovfiev’s famous score introduces all the ballet characters as sounds from musical instruments. Don’t miss this exciting, educational performance. For more information please call 631-237-4810.

ONGOING Silent Journey Marissa Bridge is a fine art painter based in Manhattan with studios in the city and East Quogue. As a young artist she studied art at Parsons School of Design and received a BFA at The School of Fine Arts. Bridge paints in the present, with the understanding of how the passage of time creates her art. Early in her career, she and her first husband were avid scuba divers, which inspired her to paint gold leaf and blue seascapes. She quit painting after losing him in a diving
accident. Tur ning to the business of art, Bridge became a successful decorative art muralist and designer for high-end clients in NYC. In recent years, she returned to the studio to paint, and it was the gift of an orchid that gave her pause. She began to think about the passage of time as she observed the life cycle of the orchid. Bridge spent three years painting the 36 oil creations in this exhibition, entitled Silent Journey. It’s on view at Dodds & Eder Home in Sag Harbor, and closes Monday.
Carol Gold Carol Gold’s showing at the Mattituck-Laurel Library Gallery will feature her continued visual dialogue with Northern and Southern seascapes and landscapes as large oil paintings on linen. In her long career, Gold has been a recipient of scholarships, prizes and ribbons. Her paintings and giclees are on view at Rumba and Cowfish in Hampton Bays; her work is widely collected. today’s birthday by Miles X. Logan ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) You need to be self-reliant, free, and independent. Learn about your body and how Mother Nature provides all that is needed. Treat your health as your greatest wealth. Get out into the natural world and do your part.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) You need to attain a degree of understanding that enables you to graduate to a higher level and enjoy real success. This rare time of culmination must be identified and honored. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You need to develop the true power of a master. To do so, be content to be alone or with only those on your level. Do not waste time and energy on those not ready or not worthy. Introspection is required for self-mastery. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) You need to be considerate as you counsel others. You may need to understand why strong feelings have surfaced and how to best cope with them. Do not repress emotions. You must see your life as a work of art. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You need to pause and contemplate where you are, where you have been, and where you are going. You are at a crossroads. Make a plan before you take any action. You are in a position of power. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) You need to be as lucky as you are skilled, maybe even more so in this instance. Luck comes most often when opportunity, preparation, and skill meet. Study the various arts and sciences devoted to cycles and timing. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) You need to be more aware of how successful and respected you are. You will not gain more than you have now until you empower yourself by
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) You need to evaluate the opposition you are offering or encountering. Be logical, persistent, and try not to resort to deceit and trickery. See if any of your troubles are self-created. Eliminate your most negative behavior patterns. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) You need to take some time for a retreat. Being around negativity can set you off balance, as you pick up on the vibes of others so easily. And be careful not to overindulge to escape your feelings. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) You need to experience childlike joy. The child you were still lives within you and must be nurtured. Allow yourself positive, nostalgic memories of childhood, friends, and family. If you can, spend time with younger people. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) You need to be able to cope with change. This week, it might be better to keep two or more things going at once rather than focus on one. You must stay centered while you stay flexible and keep informed. Know thyself. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) You need to focus completely, seize the time, get in the race and win it. Cultivate the ability to withstand the rigors of what is required. Striving towards your goal can be as satisfying as attaining it. You need to stay strong.
appreciating what you have done. Success is how you define it.
Today’s Birthday: John Edwards, 1953 Very few politicians have fallen from power quicker and more completely than John Edwards. The one time vice-presidential candidate, good looking, personable and possessing an easy Southern drawl, was viewed as presidential timber. In fact, he ran in Democratic primaries in both 2004 and 2008. But Johnny Reid “John” Edwards turned out to be nothing like the people-first reform candidate had presented himself to be. He was the first member of his family to ever attend college, attending Clemson and later earning a law degree from North Carolina State. He made national news in 1984 when he won a record-breaking medical malpractice case and went on to become the go to lawyer for similar cases, filing more than 60. He became senator of North Carolina in 1998. He declined to run for reelection in 2004 but instead announced – on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show – he would run for president. John Kerry became the Democratic party choice after a series of primary victories but Edwards did well enough to get the vice presidential nod. In 2007 Edwards geared up for another run, with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama as his main rivals. He tasted real criticism for the first time when it was revealed he paid $400 per haircut to keep himself perfectly coiffed on the campaign trail. His wife, Elizabeth Edwards was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 but had been in remission until 2008, when she revealed it had metastasized. Edwards decided to continue on the campaign trail. Rumors of a marital affair became rampant in the tabloids and were picked up by the mainstream press in 2008. In August he acknowledged he had an affair with a campaign worker in 2006 but minimized the length and depth of the relationship, Finally, the other shoe dropped -- Rielle Hunter, the “other woman” gave birth to his child and their affair ran much deeper than he had previously acknowledged – going on even as his wife underwent radiation treatments. In 2011 Hunter revealed Edwards urged her to get ready to move into his house as soon as his wife died. The public outrage ended any chance Edwards had of ever holding an elected office again. But the bottom was yet to come. On June 3, 2011, Edwards was indicted by a North Carolina grand jury on six felony charges, including four counts of collecting illegal campaign contributions, one count of conspiracy and one count of making false statements. It was said much of the money went towards covering up the details of his affair. Edwards eventually beat the charges when mistrials were declared on five of the charges. He vowed to return to malpractice law.
