Music Fest Fires Up February
Haunted
Hacienda
By Emily Toy Bored, cold and cooped up? Have no fear, the Cabin Fever Music Festival is here! And it’s sticking around all month. Conceived in 2008, the Cabin Fever Music Festival livens up the East End in the doldrums of winter. And this year is no different. Throughout this month, dozens of awesome local bands will perform at venues in Southampton, Hampton Bays, and Westhampton Beach, providing tantalizing tunes for all ages. The “brainchild” of music lovers Brendon Henry, Seth Farrell, and Paul Fallo, the annual festival is “for the artist, by the artist. We pride ourselves on a diverse and entertaining bill every single season,” according to Henry. The fest was born when the founders decided to try to get more exposure for various local bands. This year’s lineup consists of several different style bands, performing various genres from disco and rock, to blues and country. “The Cabin Fever Music Festival is the only locally run and locally played festival on Long Island,” Henry noted. Over the years, the festival has seen a growing number of people attend, with main weekend acts drawing anywhere from 70 to 100 plus people. “We have such a loyal and strong following who make putting all this together worth it,” Henry said.
This year, the volume is turned up with such acts as Project Vibe, The Tweekers, Satchel Boogie, Ne’er Do Wells and over a dozen more performing. Although about 90 percent of the bands come from right here on the East End, this year some are coming from points in Nassau County and Connecticut. This year also marks a new partnering with Hubba Promotions and Mick Hargreaves Lantern Sound Recording Rig, expanding both promotions and booking opportunities as well. The Cabin Fever Music Festival kicks off its opening night on Friday at 10 PM at the Southampton Publick House. “I am so happy with how we went from a dream of how to help promote our insanely talented local artists and year round venues, to an institution every winter on the East End,” said Henry. For more information and the month’s complete lineup, visit the festival’s Facebook page.

An Artists Reception will be held on Sunday, March 13, from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, where the public will have the opportunity to meet the artists. For more information about viewing the exhibition, call 631-722-0500 or visit www.JamesportManorInn.com.
ONGOING Exhibitionists
Sara Nightingale Gallery presents Christian Little, “Exhibitionists.” Little’s recent body of work examines a voyeur culture preoccupied with sex, drama and the lives of others. His acrylic paintings on wood panel are intended, not to offer a representation of reality, but rather, to suggest simulations of imagined actualities. The paintings are simultaneously voyeuristic and participatory, erotic and sterile, stiff and fluid, analytic and absurd. The exhibition will be on view through February 20.

They usually aren’t funny. Even Shults’s 90-year-old grandmother has a pivotal role as the clan’s grandmother. The film isn’t a true story, but viewers quickly get the impression it’s not too far removed from real life. East End Calendar Highlights
By Kitty Merrill
ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Use your ideas and insights to establish your power and know success. The sheer volume of information necessary to be considered at this time may be overwhelming. Solitude is necessary for concentration on the matters at hand. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) You need to reach for a new level of material wealth and earthly power. It may come to you as the materialization of an idea, a gift, inheritance, bonus, promotion, or other reward. The chance for financial gain is real now. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) You need to inspire others. Be a charismatic, self-assured person who knows how things must be done. Behave like royalty. Parties and other gatherings will benefit you. Find a creative project that fully occupies you. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You need to be a teacher who passes on the wisdom of the past. To do so, act sure, serene, and merciful as you learn and teach proven techniques and traditions. A spiritual practice requires study. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) You need to realize that you are now in a much better position in life. You endured a difficult transition and are now more able to deal with what may come. Change your beliefs about yourself. A trip will do you much good. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You need to take a break from your usual way of thinking, seeing, and doing to consider alternative ideas and viewpoints. Rest and relaxation are important now. Be diplomatic. Compromise or let things stand as they are. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) You need to be independent. Empathy may distract you. Think with your head, not with your heart. Devote your full attention and concentration to your situation or the volume of information will overwhelm. Tell it like it is.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Traditions are based on the sincere desire of those who came before us to preserve what was useful in their time. But your best interests are not always best served by obeying the rules. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Compromise is at the heart of diplomacy, and through diplomacy much may be won that cannot be gained through aggression. This is a time for considering the viewpoints held by others. Be on guard to prevent delays. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) A new vista may open up, bringing new, liberating solutions to old problems. A difficult cycle is now ending and the passage will be smooth after a few tumultuous waves of transition. If you can change your mind, you can change your world. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) If investments have been properly handled, much profit and wealth will accrue soon. On an inner level, this time of good fortune bestows the great gift of knowledge and the materialization of ideas. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Take time to recharge yourself. Enjoy being “the star” of your own life story. This is a time for the quiet excitement and pure enjoyment of spiritual ideas and concepts. Let your ideas pour out to nourish those you love. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, also read the sign before or after your birthday.
