New To Theaters

Barbershop: The Next Cut (PG-13) It’s been 10 years, and some things never change – but the shop has: it’s co-ed now. Luckily, the gags still flow, and the crew comes together not only to save the shop but to save the run-down Chicago neighborhood.

Term Life (R) Think time is going too fast? Little Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) is packing a rod. Even with the makeup she looks about 10. Vince Vaughn stars as the estranged father as the duo are pursued by a drug lord and corrupt cops.

Coming Soon

Elvis & Nixon (NR) This is about that time when the rock legend traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with the Prez. Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey do the honors. Thank you, thank you very much.

New On DVD

The Invitation (NR) Things get weird when a former husband joins his exwife and new husband for dinner. The director, Karen Kusama, keeps the audience on the edge of their seats as imagination and reality blur and the mystery becomes downright spooky. Michael Huisman (“Game Of Thrones”), Tammy Blanchard (Into The Woods) and Logan Marshall-Green star.

The Meddler (PG-13) A single screenwriter living in Los Angeles (Rose Byrne) is smothered with motherly love when her recently widowed mother (Susan Sarandon) moves to the coast. Sarandon, as is usually the case, turns in a stunning performance Add a star if you are a mother. J.K. Simmons costars. The Lady In The Van Maggie Smith turns in an astounding performance as a lady who camps in a man’s driveway and ends up staying for 20 years. The fact that it’s based on a true story adds to the depth of her effort.

Now Playing

Holidays (R) Nine filmmakers present horror stories that revolve around Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. A bloody good time is had by all.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (PG-13) They couldn’t resist making it – and now they’ve ruined it. Nia Vardalos‘s fresh, sassy original became the highest grossing romantic comedy 14 years ago by word of mouth. The sequel, featuring an even bigger and Greeker wedding, recycles much of the first movie but without the innocence and charm. Vardalos and John Corbett reprise their roles. Bottom line: The Greek jokes aren’t that funny this time around.

Independent Dining Soy Ginger Glazed Chicken with Soba Noodles & Peanut Sauce Ingredients (serves 4) 4 chicken breasts 10 oz soba noodles 1 shallot 2 cloves of garlic 1 orange 3 tbsp fresh chopped ginger 1/3 c soy sauce 1/2 c vegetables oil 1 tbsp miso paste 3 tbsp natural peanut butter 2 tbsp curry powder 1tsp red chili paste salt and pepper to taste

Method First to make the marinade, put the juice from the orange, shallot, garlic, soy sauce, ginger, chili paste, miso paste, and vegetable oil in a blender cup and blend on high to a smooth, dressing-like consistency. Marinate the chicken breasts in half of the marinade and save the rest. Now fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil, then add a few pinches of salt and the curry powder. Cook the soba noodles in the boiling seasoned water for 6 to 8 minutes. Strain and reserve some of the cooking liquid then set the pasta to

the side while you grill your chicken. Fire up the Foreman grill or the one on your deck and grill the marinated chicken breasts on medium high heat about five minutes each side and brush the breasts with some of the remaining marinade. Now to make the peanut sauce in a small sauce pan heat 1/3 c of the left over cooking liquid from the soba noodles whisk in the peanut butter and 1/4 c of the remaining marinade. Toss the soba noodles in the sauce, slice the chicken breasts plate and enjoy.
