Sacred Threads
“Sacred Threads,” an exhibition of a private collection of magnificent ecclesiastical vestments and textiles from the 14th to the 18th centuries and their connection to fine art opens at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in East Hampton on Saturday with a benefit party. The exhibition will be open to the public from May 8 through May 30. Jill Lasersohn has been collecting rare and fine textiles for over 25 years and this will be the first time these museum-quality masterpieces will be

on public view. Her particular focus is matching items in her collection to important art of the period, literally photos from the past. In addition to glorious, early Renaissance velvets and silks, rich with gold threads, visitors will see a beautiful example of a bishop’s gloves that have survived the centuries and view a set of gold buttons used to elect a doge in 14th-century Venice with an accompanying image of a painting by Giovanni Bellini.

East End Collected2 Southampton Arts Center presents "East End Collected2," a group exhibition of works by artists from the East End, curated by Paton Miller. The exhibition will run from Thursday through June 12. "East End Collected2" reflects Miller’s vision of this area as an ideal environment for artists to create work. Earth, Wind & Fire “Earth, Wind & Fire”’ at The White Room Gallery in Bridgehampton will open on Saturday with a reception from 5 to 7 PM with works by artists EJ Camp, Susan Zises and June Kaplan. Camp captures the elegance and moods of what draws us all to the East End with her black and white photography. Zises works her medium with layers and textures creating intricate pieces that are complex and beautiful. Kaplan hits the mark with her color and instinctive process relating to her natural surroundings. Whether process or interpretation, natural elements generate inspiration for all three artists. The show runs through May 15. Spring! Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor presents its fifth annual "Spring! Flowers & Fields" exhibit, a group show featuring local artists’ landscapes and floral inspired paintings. Independent Dining Crispy Fish Tacos With Pineapple Chutney Carrot And Radish Ingredients (serves 4) 1 ½ lb Mahi-mahi fillet 1 cup all purpose flour 2 c Panko breadcrumbs 4 eggs (whisked) 1 pineapple (trimmed and rough chopped) 1 jalapeño 3 tbsp mayonnaise 1tbsp Old Bay seasoning 1 white onion 1 bunch of cilantro 1 head of Bibb lettuce 1 tsp turmeric 1 tbsp curry powder 3 limes 4 corn tortillas ½ c radish (thinly sliced) 2 carrots (peeled and thinly sliced) 4 c canola oil salt and pepper to taste Method To begin this recipe you want to slice
four and a half inch thick strips of the Mahi-mahi. Bread each one by dusting each slice in the seasoned all purpose flour, then dipping in the whisked egg, and finally coating each in the seasoned Panko bread crumbs. When you have finished breading the fish, set them in the refrigerator until you are ready to fry them. To make the pineapple chutney, start by sweating chopped onion and jalapeno over medium high heat with a little bit of oil. When they have become soft and translucent add the pineapple and turmeric then cover and cook over medium heat for another 10 minutes. Add the entire mixture to the food processor along with half the bunch of cilantro and pulse the mixture four or five times until everything has become nicely incorporated. Spread over a sheet tray and put into the refrigerator to cool. Heat the four cups of canola oil to
350 degrees in a large enough pot that the oil only fills it half way. While the oil is heating, dress the thinly sliced carrot and radish by simply mixing the juice of one lime with the mayonnaise and the Old Bay seasoning. Toss the vegetables in the dressing. When the oil is hot, fry the fish for about three minutes or until it becomes golden brown and floats on top of the
hot oil. Place the fish on a towel. Once it is cooked you can assemble the tacos. Heat each tortilla over an open flame. Spread a healthy portion of the pineapple chutney over the tortilla. Place a large leaf of Bibb lettuce over the chutney followed by the fish. Fold the taco and top with the radish and carrot. Garnish with a sprig of cilantro and enjoy.
