Long Island International Film Expo

Jason Galka is the host of new show "A Ship Called Relation" which can be seen on thedailyblu.com live every Wednesday morning. The social networking website was created for Long Islanders and is owned by BluChip Marketing. Galka is not new to hosting as he also hosts his own show "The Jason Galka Show" along with his newest show "What's Happening in the Hamptons" which is in its second year. His regular talk show started in 2012 when he had the idea to reinvent himself after losing his house due to tough economic times that fell upon him along with many Long Islanders. He felt the need to offer a show that would feature inspirational guests with stories that everyone could relate to. The viewers found the subject matters very relatable and it wasn't long until he branched out to interviewing celebrities and covering an array of events from Manhattan to Montauk. This progressed to the second show coming to fruition and expanded to the New York City market where viewers there were able to tune in as well. Jason is an eastern Long Islander who lives with his fiance, Jon and their two dogs, Mika and Gracie. They have a June wedding planned for 2015 and life seems to be offering him many amazing opportunities that he is able to take advantage of including his newest hosting position with "The Daily Blu". He is a very busy man but when he does get some downtime he enjoys going to beach, gardening and decorating at the beautiful home that he and Jon share together. You can keep up with Jason by visiting his website at www.jasongalka.wix.com/jgalka to see where he will be next. Written by Annemarie Davin

Music

Maxi Priest By Ashley O’Connell

Maxi Priest has been jamming to his own reggae beat since the early 1980s. He grew up in the UK, and to this day he still claims it as home base. Maxi also lays claim to Jamaica and the USA, and calls himself a "Worldian, a man of the world. So, everywhere is my home." Priest has several albums and had an American Billboard #1 hit in 1990, "Close To Me." Guess he was glad to make his trek across the pond to the good ol' US of A. Ah, performances. Life is a stage, so Shakespeare said (or maybe it was that drunken guy at Sloppy Tuna the other night that I'm paraphrasing?). Methinks that the best part of performing would be strutting upstage, feeling the waves of fans cheering themselves into a throat lozenge frenzy, and inflating my ego to the size of my usual chipotle burrito. Maxi, however, is a bit more grounded. His favorite part of performing? "Listening and watching everybody sing along to a song that I wrote that came from a blank piece of paper, is my highest of highs, in appreciation for my performance."

Jenna Mackin

Sole East is known for its outdoor grass-carpeted dining room, its beautiful landscaping, plush rooms and Hamptons vibe. You've got your venue, your scenery, your taste. And your sound? Not to be questioned. Who better to serenade Hamptons guests on a summery, beach vacation then Maxi Priest? Hamptonites might focus a little too much on what Lily Pulitzer shorts combo they are going to wear sometimes, but even the most highbrow can let loose, let their hair down, and let their body swing, as they did last month to Priest's original reggae beats.

You might think that one fan is pretty much the same as the next, which is the same as the hundredth. Not true, according to Priest. When asked about his favorite country to perform in, he responds with Japan. Why? "Because I've watched how the audience changed over the years, in the way they were taught how to appreciate a performance. From the first time I went to Japan in a 4,000 capacity concert hall, you could hear a pin drop before you came out on stage, and after every song they would clap. But now they are just as rowdy as everybody else, in appreciation for good performances." There ya go Japan, we knew you'd get into that reggae groove! Maxi definitely has a who's who list of names when it comes to the artists that inspire him. His list -- which started with artists he listened to when he was little -- includes the likes of Dennis Brown, Bob Marley, Sting, Motown, The Beatles. The list, like the beat, goes on. Nothing beats collaborating with your hero, which Maxi indeed did when he and Dennis Brown produced a song together. Believe it or not, even reggae musicians get stressed. Priest's greatest release? Playing football (soccer to any Super Bowl fanatic), and spending time with his family, whom he calls his "Groundation." Totally digging his vocabulary, and his love of family. Sleep is another way he relieves the stress of touring. Currently, Priest is working on a book called See Jamaica Through My Eyes, as well as more music. To his Montauk fans who showed him love recently, he says, "Big up!" 14

e re u P rn o C & e o R n o lm Sa Cucumber Wheel With oeCipro Shitake Mushroom ByChefJ

INGREDIENTS (serves 10 to 15) 2 English cucumbers (washed and cut into 1/4 inch rounds) 8 ears of corn (shucked & corn kernels removed from the cob) 4 sprigs of thyme 1 bay leaf 1/2 lb cream cheese 1 4 oz jar of salmon roe 1 oz package of micro bok choy 1 oz corn starch 10 oz shiitake mushroom (stems removed) Sea salt for garnish Olive oil for garnish METHOD Begin by removing the stems from the mushrooms. Dehydrating the mushrooms will be the most time consuming task in this recipe, Leave at least 10 hours to properly dehydrate the mushroom caps. To do this, place the caps of the mushrooms on the racks of your dehydrator and set it to medium heat for about 8 to 10 hours. If you do not have a dehydrator you can spread the mushroom caps evenly over a sheet tray and place them in an oven set to 150 degrees. Be sure to use the convection fan if it is available on your oven.

Return the hot corn purée to the stock pot. Make a cornstarch slurry with 1/4 cup of water and an ounce of corn starch. Whisk the slurry into the warm corn purée over medium low heat. Whisk until the purée begins to thicken, then fold in the cream cheese and season to your liking with salt.

While this is happening, place the corn cobs (kernels removed and set aside) in a large stock pot and fill with enough water to cover the corn cob. Add the thyme and bay leaf and let simmer for about three hours to really infuse the corn flavor into your stock.

When the mixture becomes thick, transfer it to a shallow cooling dish. Cover and cool in the fridge for at least three hours. When the mushrooms are dried, grind them into a fine powder using a spice grinder and set aside until you are ready to assemble.

After three hours strain the stock. Warm the corn kernels in the hot strained stock. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes.

To assemble take one of the cucumber wheels, squeeze some corn purée on top, them add the salmon roe, a bit of sea salt, a drizzle of olive oil. Finish with the micro bok choy and some shiitake powder.

Purée the entire mixture then strain it through a fine sieve. 15

By Annemarie Davin Many famous faces have been seen bouncing around the Hamptons and one of those famous faces is actor Bill Sorvino. Bill Sorvino was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. Although hailing from a family of actors, Bill actually started out in the music industry following his passion for music but it wasn’t long until his passion for acting came to fruition. He attended William Esper Studio enrolling in a two year acting program in drama and continued his studies under the direction of acting coach John Dapolito studying character development, script analysis and scene study. Bill is an award winning accomplished actor and joins the ranks of his uncle Paul Sorvino and his cousin Mira Sorvino in making his mark in Hollywood and on the big screen. He has five awards to his credit and has been cast in a variety of lead roles including “Maniac,” “Mommy’s Box,” “In the End,” “Trafico” and “Quantum Heaven” to name a few. He has worked with some well known actors such as David Harris, Joey D’Onofrio, Domenica Scorese, Sally Kellerman and Federico Castelluccio and many more.

Bill Sorvino

Bill Sorvino is a leader and a trail blazer who is on fire. It’s no wonder that he was named one of the top fifty most influential people in the Garden State in 2013. There’s no stopping this talented actor! His drive, passion and dedication to the craft is the reason he will be an Oscar winner a few times over. You can visit www.billsorvino.com to stay up to date on his career.

As an actor Bill has attended many film festivals and often felt they catered to just the big names and lacked in supporting the up and coming filmmaker and actor. He started the Golden Door International Film Festival to offer an outlet for aspiring actors and filmmakers to screen their films in an atmosphere where everyone is on the same level and treated like a Hollywood star. It also offers domestic and international films a forum where their hard work and original works can be appreciated and recognized by filmgoers, press and industry peers.

Marina DeMarco is a talented up and coming actress and model born and raised on Long Island. She has been seen in the movie “Umbrellas Kill” and is cast in an upcoming pilot called “Here’s To Us.” This young and gifted student is currently studying cosmetology and is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to raising awareness about breast cancer. She has been seen on News 12 two years in a row talking about a program called Pink Hair for Hope and helping raise awareness for breast cancer. You will be hearing more from me on this beauty but you can stay up to date with her by following her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

This year the GDIFF celebrates its fourth year in a major way. Tommy Hilfiger has signed on as the title sponsor and due to his involvement with Autism Speaks, they have signed on as a sponsor as well. Opening night will bring awareness to autism with a film short and feature film where Rumer Willis stars in both. Saturday night will boast some of the biggest names in the film industry who will attend the feature film “Bronx Bull.” The festival runs September 18 through September 21 in Jersey City, New Jersey. You can visit www.goldendoorfilmfestival. org for more information.

You can follow FameHampton also on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and watch interviews with many celebrities and talents on YouTube under FameHamptonPR. 18
