The Cradle of Humankind

Abseiling

Hot air ballooning is a magical experience that everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime! Cruise the panoramic landscapes and breath-taking views of the Cradle of Humankind areas from above with the wind in your hair – the sky really is the limit!

The Cradle of Humankind is where some of the most valuable humanoid fossils have been found. Visit the birthplace of humanity, and learn more about this World Heritage Site.

Abseiling is an exciting, adrenalinfilled escape if you’re one of our more adventurous students. Start with a hike climbing the Stairway to the summit of the Magaliesberg, and abseil down.

Sterkfontein Caves

Maboneng Precinct

Sterkfontein Caves are world famous for their fossil finds and a well-known visitor destination. They are credited with many of the famous discoveries including the world famous “Mrs Ples” and “Little Foot”, an almost complete Australopithecus skeleton dating back more than 3-million years. Tours at the Sterkfontein Caves, which start above ground and then take visitors deep into the caves, run every half hour, seven days a week.

If you are looking for something contemporary, then Maboneng Precinct is the place to be. Maboneng means ‘place of light’ in Sesotho and the name epitomizes everything that this neighbourhood represents – a shining example of what life in the inner city can be. What was once a downtrodden forgotten part of the city is now a thriving junction of residential buildings, treelined streets, art galleries, restaurants, boutiques and commercial spaces humming with life – day and night (source: mabonengprecinct.com). Maboneng Precinct is located on the eastern side of Joburg’s central business district. It is what Vogue.com once called ‘the coolest neighborhood in Johannesburg’.
