A TORNADO ... THEN DEATH AND DESTRUCTION

On Monday evening a tornado ripped through areas north of Durban – with Tongaat being the hardest hit. The other areas included Ballito, Seatides, La Mercy as well as Newcastle, Utrecht, Nquthu, Eshowe and KwaHlabisa. Eleven people tragically lost their lives – seven of them from Tongaat. Hundreds of others watched their homes being decimated, their roofs blown away, and windows shattered. As residents try to put back the pieces of their lives, some seeking refuge at community halls, good Samaritans have been at their side helping to clear the streets and provide them with warm meals. We could not capture all the pictures in print but via this digimag, we will show readers the devastation and destruction these communities suffered.
