Shopping Trail:
Cluny Court
The laidback vibe of Cluny Court draws a constant stream of shoppers. Located along Bukit Timah Road and next to the Botanic Gardens, this two-storey colonial building is home to a handful of cafes, restaurants, a supermarket and specialty shops selling homeware, furniture and kids’ fashion. The shops are quaint and have an air of exclusivity – factors that make the shopping experience so wonderful. Here are three stores that have caught our eyes. TEXT: REDZMAN RAHMAT

Bungalow 55
Bungalow 55 sits on the ground floor of Cluny Court in a prime spot facing the main street. This home décor store exudes a warm and inviting front to passers-by who can’t help but stop and peer through the storefront. Founded by Australian-born Nina Beale, Bungalow 55 offers an eclectic range of homeware, accessories and décor items. The items are sourced from all around the world, with a large fraction imported from Europe, Australia and America. There’s a predominantly colonial look to the collection, but with a strong nautical influence, evident in the blue accents around the shop. The best part about visiting

Lemongrass & Aubergine
From the outside, Lemongrass & Aubergine might look like a fun children’s store. Cheerful colours and playful displays are the first things you see, including the massive turquoise crocodile statue lying on the floor. But the shop, located on the second floor of Cluny Court, is actually a home décor boutique that carries a varied collection ranging from tableware to textiles. Most of the items in Lemongrass & Aubergine have been brought in from around Europe – particularly France. Shop owner Sofia Greig has built and maintained a network of suppliers from that area, which allows her to import these hard-to-find homeware and accessories. Sofia constantly brings in new items to the store, making the shopping experience full of pleasant surprises check out the brightly coloured melamine tableware, the dish towels with unique prints, and the beautiful PVC area rugs.
