Media Kit 2011 Habitus at a glance
MEDIA KIT 2011
We are all fascinated by the way other people live. Why did they build their house that way? What attracted them to those furnishings? And what was the inspiration for the garden and landscaping? In fact, part of our fascination is the search for new ideas, which might work for us in our own home. From this point of view, the more exotic, the more fascinating. Habitus takes you into an extraordinary mix of homes, and into the lives of the people who designed them and the people who live in them. It is a magazine about the design decisions people make which represent their way of life, and a unique expression of personality, culture and values in a particular physical environment. Habitus believes that through exploring the spaces that people live in, we can gain an intimate insight into them and the way they live. I think Habitus is special in all sorts of ways. But it is absolutely unique because of its cross-cultural focus – discovering inspiring personalities, products, ideas and homes within Australia, New Zealand, South and South-East Asia. This makes it a window to one of the most creative regions in the world. And it gives our readers the opportunity to celebrate a diversity of architectural approaches and design influences across cultures. Happily, our regional aspiration has been endorsed by a wonderful reader response. From Sydney to Bangkok, Auckland to Singapore and beyond, Habitus has been taken up as the magazine for people who are passionate about living in design. Paul McGillick, Editor

WHAT IS
HABITUS?
Once the specialised knowledge of architects and designers, quality design is now entering the consciousness of the wider population. Welcome the Design Hunter – design is their passion, Habitus their inspiration.
Habitus –
a unique advertising
the reader
environment
Design Hunters create their own possibilities. They love the ongoing adventure of discovering design, and consciously use it to express their personality and values. They are educated, informed, assured individuals – regardless of age, gender or occupation. They are not interested in what other people tell them is the ‘latest’ or ‘best’. Instead, they make their own connections and have a unique economy of value, which combines both quality and meaning. They are free-thinkers, savvy self-specifiers, positive collaborators, valued opinion leaders and loyal friends. Their eyes and ears, hearts and minds, are wide open.
Habitus is indispensable for Design Hunters and their individual ways of life. The design decisions that they make – from the architecture and interiors to the landscaping, artworks, technology, even the clothes they wear and cars they drive – express a deeply felt, deeply personal way of living. Design Hunters relate personally with design at all levels and are responsible for driving design awareness in the mass market.

READER TESTIMONIALS “...Really like the ‘constellation of attitudes’ approach, especially the focus on stories behind design...” stefanie flaubert KORBAN/FLAUBERT Studio/Showroom Alexandria NSW
“It is certainly a beautiful magazine right down to the paper stock. It expresses a strong landscape context, which makes me want to get it out of the office and down to the beach house to read.” John Wardle, Director John Wardle Architects Melbourne VIC
“Bought my first copy of Habitus this week and I think it looks great – it seems to have a good depth and diversity of content unlike some design magazines in which you can read the content in about 10 minutes.”
“What a superb magazine... A very intelligent and wellcrafted addition to the Creative Conversation. What separates Habitus from other Australian design publications is the quality of the content and the elegance of the presentation. It is a pleasure to be able to actually read the text and fully appreciate the insights of writers and commentators.” Richard Henderson, Director R-Co Branding and Identity Melbourne, VIC
“The size, the paper quality and the contents... it is very appealing to designers and architects. Seeing some of the South-East Asian projects being featured made it more interesting and creates a great connection.”
“I was looking forward to receiving my first copy of Habitus, and it definitely didn’t let me down. I found it creative, informative and stylish, plus I love the paper it is printed on. This will be the first of many issues on my bookshelf.” Ursula Hufnagl, Director CHIC MANAGEMENT Woollahra, NSW
“The Habitus paper is so soft – it gives the publication an intellectual air. It’s very engaging – I’m going to read every slither/page of it!” Tracey Moffatt Artist Queensland and New York
Shaun Shahzainy Shahrome Director/Architect SOHO Design Partnership Singapore & Kuala Lumpar
Stephen Minnett, Practice Director Futurespace Sydney NSW
“The mixture of the Architecture+Design presented within Habitus provides a real representation of who we are as people in this part of the world.” Ed Peryman Habitus reader Sumner, NZ
“A great cross between architecture mags (too cold) and home lifestyle mags (mostly same old same old!)” Danielle Dunsmore Journalist, PR, Stylist Chevron, Queensland
“...literate and sophisticated. It brings global attention to an area of the world for which it is long overdue.” – jeremy Habitus reader, California
