2. EU TRADE – KEY FINDINGS The European Union is a net exporter of headphones. In real terms, exports consistently exceeded imports in 2007-2013. However, the difference in the trade balance was less significant in value terms, due to the low import prices. One of the main trends, resulting from the long economic recession of Europe, has been the move by consumers to lower-priced electronics. Although some companies in the headphones segment have their own fanatic clients, the majority of consumers are willing to put their personal brand preferences in the background and see price as the number one selling factor. This has been well captured by European manufacturers who were able to quickly reorganize their production and come out with good quality products at lower prices. In terms of purchasing consumer electronics, there are some serious differences among the consumers in the countries of Western Europe. According to market experts, the British customers are looking for value rather than service. On the other hand, clients in France require after-sales services. Despite the difficult economic times, the people from Germany are looking for brands and convenience in purchasing.
