2. KEY FINDINGS From 2007 to 2014, EU permanent magnet production showed mixed dynamics, eventually falling from 20.4 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 18.2 thousand tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -1.6% over the period under review. In value terms, EU magnet production was 344 million EUR in 2014. Germany was the largest producer of permanent magnets in absolute volumes, with 9,760 tonnes. It was distantly followed by the Czech Republic (171 tonnes), Denmark (158 tonnes) and Finland (133 tonnes). Positive dynamics in permanent magnet production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Germany (+6.8% per year), while for Denmark and Finland the paces of growth were negative. Germany dominated in EU permanent magnet production and trade. In 2014, it exported the lion’s share of its total magnet output. Of this amount, 10% was supplied to the Czech Republic, where Germany’s permanent magnets held a 20% share of the country’s total imports.
