2. KEY FINDINGS From 2007 to 2014, EU production of polyethylene terephthalate showed mixed dynamics, eventually rising from 2.94 million tonnes in 2007 to 2.96 million tonnes in 2014. In value terms, EU polyethylene terephthalate production decreased to 2.7 billion EUR in 2014, falling by -3.2% annually. Germany was the largest producer of polyethylene terephthalate in absolute volumes, with 546 thousand tonnes. It was distantly followed by Portugal (26 thousand tonnes) and Croatia (16 thousand tonnes). Positive dynamics in polyethylene terephthalate production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Croatia (+16.5% per year), while for the other two EU leaders (Germany and Portugal) the paces of growth were more modest or negative. Germany dominated in EU polyethylene terephthalate production and ranked third in trade. In 2014, it exported 64% of its total polyethylene terephthalate output. Of this amount, 16% was supplied to Austria, where Germany’s polyethylene terephthalate held a 45% share of total Austria n imports.
