2. KEY FINDINGS From 2007 to 2014, EU production of polystyrene in primary forms showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 4.1 million tonnes in 2007 to 3.0 million tonnes in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -4.3% over the period under review. In value terms, EU polystyrene production decreased to 4.3 billion EUR in 2014, falling by -0.6% annually. The countries with the largest production of polystyrene in absolute volumes were France (546 thousand tonnes) and Italy (349 thousand tonnes). However, they showed negative dynamics between 2007 and 2014, France (-2.2% per year) and Italy (-0.4% per year). France dominated in EU polystyrene production and ranked second in trade. In 2014, it exported 23% of its total polystyrene output. Of this amount, 15% was supplied to Italy, where France’s polystyrene held a 9% share of total Italian imports.
