2. KEY FINDINGS From 2007 to 2014, EU production of steel springs and leaves showed mixed dynamics, finally falling from 4,097 million EUR in 2007 to 3,900 million EUR in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of -0.7% over the period under review. In physical terms, EU steel spring production was 1,381 thousand tonnes in 2014, growing by +1.4% annually from 2007 to 2014. France was the largest producer of steel springs and leaves in absolute value, with 348 million EUR. It was distantly followed by Portugal (76 million EUR), Denmark (28 million EUR) and Finland (17 million EUR). Positive dynamics in steel spring production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Finland (+2.3% per year), while for the other three EU leaders (Portugal, Denmark and France) the paces of growth were more modest or negative. France dominated in EU steel spring production and ranked third in trade. In 2014, it exported 49% of its total steel spring output. Of this amount, 14% was supplied to Germany, where France’s steel springs and leaves held a 5% share of total German imports.
