2. KEY FINDINGS From 2007 to 2014, EU stranded wire production showed positive dynamics, except for the drop of 2008-2009 which was followed by a recovery. The production eventually grew from 1,779 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 2,133 thousand tonnes in 2014. It expanded with a CAGR of +2.6% over the period under review. In value terms, EU stranded wire production decreased to 2,894 million EUR in 2014, falling by -0.4% annually. The countries with the largest production of stranded wire, ropes and cables in absolute volumes were Poland (95 thousand tonnes), Italy (91 thousand tonnes) and Finland (77 thousand tonnes). Positive dynamics in stranded wire production among the main producing countries from 2007 to 2014 were recorded in Poland (+12.3% per year) and Finland (+19.4% per year). Italy ranked second in EU stranded wire production and dominated in trade. In 2014, it exported the lion’s share of its total stranded wire output. Of this amount, 17% was supplied to Germany, where Italy’s wire held a 12% share of total German imports.
