KEY FINDINGS In the period from 2007 to 2014, EU production of veneer sheet and sheet for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise showed mixed dynamics, falling from 10 737 thousand cubic meters in 2007 to 2 450 thousand cubic meters in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 19% over the period under review. In value terms, EU veneer sheet production reached 1 138 million EUR in 2014, growing by 1.5% annually. The countries with the largest production of veneer sheets and sheets for plywood and other wood in absolute volumes were Italy (1 031 thousand cubic meters), followed by Spain (111 thousand cubic meters), Germany (98 thousand cubic meters), Estonia (95 thousand cubic meters) and Romania (81 thousand cubic meters). Positive dynamics in veneer sheet and sheet for plywood production among the main producing countries in the period from 2007 to 2014 were in Romania (+9.8% per year), Estonia (+9.6% per year) and Spain (+4.9% per year). Germany (-18.1%) and Italy (26.8%) showed negative rates during the analyzed period. In value terms, Italy dominated in EU production and exports of veneer sheet and sheet for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise. In 2014, Italy exported 13% of its total output of veneer sheet and sheet for plywood and other wood. Of this amount, 8% was supplied to Germany, where Italy’s wood and veneer sheets held a 6% share of total Germany imports.
