2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS Germany dominates in the global trade of amino-resins, phenolic resins and polyurethanes. In 2014, Germany exported 1.2 million tonnes of amino-resins, phenolic resins and polyurethanes totaling 2.98 billion USD, 4.4% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Italy, where it supplied 10.1% of its total amino-resins, phenolic resins and polyurethanes exports in value terms, accounting for 42.3% of Italy’s total imports. From 2007 to 2014, Germany was a net exporter of amino-resins, phenolic resins and polyurethanes. In this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced due to high export prices. Belgium and the U.S. were among the other main global suppliers of aminoresins, phenolic resins and polyurethanes in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were the Netherlands (+20.9% per year) and China (+22.6% per year). These countries significantly strengthened their positions in the global export structure. In 2014, Germany’s top 5 trading partners were Italy, the Netherlands, France, Poland and the United Kingdom, with a combined 39.3% share of Germany’s exports. The share of the Netherlands increased significantly (+5.4 percentage points), while the share of France illustrated negative dynamics (-1.3 percentage points).
