2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS Turkey is in complete control of the world fig market. In 2014, Turkey exported 73 thousand tonnes of figs totaling 281 million USD, 16% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Germany, where it supplied 17% of its total fig exports in value terms, accounting for 76% of Germany’s total imports. Overall, the global fig trade reached 448 million USD, with a CAGR of 8% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it showed steady growth, rising from 80 thousand tonnes in 2007 to 117 thousand tonnes in 2014. In 2014, India (13%), Germany (13%), France (12%), the U.S. (7%) and the United Kingdom (5%) were the leading destinations of fig imports, together making up 49% of global imports. The share of India increased (+3 percentage points), while the share of Germany illustrated negative dynamics (-3 percentage points). The U.S. and Germany were distant also rans among as global suppliers of figs in 2014 with a combined 10% share of global exports. The fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Austria (+13% per year) and Germany (+12% per year). The U.S. slightly strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 4% in 2007 to 6% in 2014.
