2. WORLD TRADE – KEY FINDINGS The countries with the largest harvested area of primary vegetables in 2013 were China (24.42 million Ha), India (8.65 million Ha), Turkey (1.12 million Ha) and the USA (1.05 million Ha), which together accounted for 60.1% of the total volume of harvested areas. In Iran and the USA, the volume of harvested area declined annually from 2007-2013, by 2.2% and 2.1%, respectively. The remaining countries showed more modest growth: Iran (+1.9%), the Russian Federation (+1.6%), Egypt (+0.4%) and Mexico (+0.8%). The output of the five major producers of frozen vegetables, namely China, Belgium, the USA, India and Mexico, represented more than 65% of global output. The balance of the countries showed steady growth in physical terms. Especially high were the growth levels in the Netherlands (+15.8%) and the USA (+11.0%). In 2013, the USA (10.8%), Germany (9.1%), France (8.2%), Croatia (8.1%), Japan (7.4%) and the United Kingdom (7.2%) were the main destinations of frozen vegetables imports and together made up 50.7% of global imports in physical terms. While the share of Croatia and Egypt increased significantly (+7.9 and +6.2 percentage points, relatively), the share of other countries illustrated negative dynamics - Germany (-1.0 percentage points), France (-1.8 percentage points), the United Kingdom (-1.9 percentage points) and the USA (-2.4 percentage points). In 2013, Belgium (22.5%), China (14.2%), Egypt (8.1%), Poland (7.8%), Spain (6.9%), Mexico (5.5%) and the Netherlands (5.4%) were the main global exporters of frozen vegetables with a combined share of 79.8% of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007-2013 were Croatia (+95.7% per year) and Egypt (+36.9% per year). It should be mentioned that Belgium, Croatia and Egypt are export-oriented countries in the field of frozen vegetables trade. China dominated in global frozen vegetables production with share of 21.8%, while Belgium led in the world trade with export share of 22.5%.
