2. WORLD TRADE – KEY FINDINGS The countries with the largest harvested area of vegetables in 2013 were China (24.42 million Ha), India (8.65 million Ha), Turkey (1.12 million Ha), the USA (1.05 million Ha) and Viet Nam (0.94 million Ha), which together accounted for 61.7% of the total volume of harvested areas. In Iran and the USA, the volume of harvested area declined annually from 2007-2013, by 2.2% and 2.1%, respectively. The remaining countries showed more modest growth: Iran (+1.9%), the Russian Federation (+1.6%), Egypt (+0.4%) and Mexico (+0.8%). The output of the ten major producers of vegetables (primary), namely China, India, the USA, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, the Russian Federation, Viet Nam, Mexico and Italy represented more than 76% of global vegetables (primary) output. In the USA and Italy, the production levels decreased by 1.9% annually from 2007-2013. The balance of the countries showed steady growth. Especially high were the growth levels in Viet Nam (+10.9%) and India (+5.5%). In 2013, China (13.9%), the USA (12.9%), Germany (6.4%), Croatia (5.6%), Malaysia (4.7%) and the United Kingdom (4.3%) were the main destinations of vegetables (primary) imports, together making up 47.8% of global imports. The share of Croatia increased significantly (+5.4 percentage points), while the share of Malaysia and the Netherlands

respectively). The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period. China dominated in global vegetables (primary) production with a 51.7% share, while the Netherlands led in global trade with share of export equal to 13.3%.
