2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS France seized control of the wine market. In 2014, France exported 1,467 million litres of wine totaling 10,262 USD, 1% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was the United Kingdom, where it supplied 15% of its total wine exports in value terms, accounting for 30% of the United Kingdom’s total imports. Overall, the global wine trade reached 34,312 million USD, with a CAGR of 3% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it increased from 9,242 million litres in 2007 to 10,794 million litres in 2014. In 2014, the U.S. (16%), the United Kingdom (15%), Germany (10%), Canada (6%) and Japan (5%) were the leading destinations of wine imports, together making up 52% of global imports. The share of China increased (+4 percentage points), while the share of the United Kingdom illustrated negative dynamics (6 percentage points). Italy and Spain were among the other main global suppliers of wine in 2014 with a combined 30% share of global exports. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were France (+34% per year) and Italy (+18% per year). Italy strengthened its position in the global export structure, from 18% in 2007 to 20% in 2014.
