2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS Germany dominates in the global yoghurt trade. In 2014, Germany exported 377 thousand tonnes of yoghurt totaling 610 million USD, 1% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Italy, where it supplied 21% of its total yoghurt exports in value terms, accounting for 46% of Italy’s total imports. From 2007 to 2014, Germany was a net exporter of yoghurt. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms, the difference was the same, except for 2007, 2009 and 2014 when low export prices made it more notable. France and Austria were among the other main global suppliers of yoghurt in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were South Africa (+41% per year) and Poland (+13% per year). Greece strengthened its position in the global export structure. In 2014, Germany’s top 5 trading partners were Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France and Belgium, with a combined 58% share of Germany’s yoghurt exports. The share of the Netherlands increased (+3 percentage points), while the shares of the other Germany’s trading partners illustrated negative dynamics.
