World’s Biggest Climate Clocks display
The climate crisis is happening now. It is not a thing of the future and we need to act now. Only a few years are left until climate change crosses the line of no return. We all must step up and become part of the solution. This was the appeal made on social media platforms before the world’s biggest assembly and display of climate clocks took place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The activity was undertaken to commemorate ‘Earth Day’ on April 22, 2023. History was created when a total of 559 Climate Clocks were assembled and showcased by the participants in the age group of 10-50 years. Many more participants joined virtually from across the country to display their individual Climate Clocks. This was the highest number of Climate Clocks assembled and displayed at multiple venues in a single day. It set a world record and the event found a glorious mention in the prestigious Asia Book of Records along with the India Book of Records as well.
The event was spearheaded by Energy Swaraj Foundation (ESF) in association with the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). A total of 7,000 brains and 3,000 organisations from all walks of society participated in the event, laying the foundation for change and promoting climate change mitigation among the common people. The stadium was filled with climate enthusiasts and conscious individuals who pledged to take action for climate correction. The event received participation not just from within India, but also from people outside the country.
The assembly of clocks began after a lecture by Prof Chetan Singh Solanki, founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, who spoke about understanding climate change and limiting the use of energy through the AMG (Avoid, Minimize, and Generate) principle. The event was aimed at creating awareness about the rising temperature and mitigating climate change issues. Guests of honour, including Prof (Dr) TG Sitharam, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education, and Dr Chintan Vaisnav, Mission Director of NITI Aayog Atal Innovation Mission, Dr G Mahesh, Chief Scientist &Head, DG Executive, Directorate at CSIR also graced the occasion.

The global partner for the event was Climate Clock Group, which first displayed the climate clock at Times Square. The Energy Swaraj Foundation received funding support from Axis Bank Ltd., and the foundation expressed gratitude for the indispensable support provided by the lender. The event was a huge success and marked the beginning of a change towards a sustainable future.
Prof Chetan Singh Solanki, a Professor from IIT Bombay, Brand Ambassador of Solar Energy for Govt of Madhya Pradesh, and Founder of the Energy Swaraj Foundation, has been popularly referred to as the ‘Solar Man of India’ by the mainline media. Some people also call him ‘Solar Gandhi’. Known for his remarkable work in the field of Solar, he is an educator, innovator, researcher, entrepreneur, and author. Following Gandhian ideals, he coined the word ‘Energy Swaraj’. Prof Solanki has taken unpaid leave from his role as an academician at IIT Bombay to undertake Energy Swaraj Yatra, wherein he has pledged not to go home, until 2030 and live and travel in the solar bus only. He has published 8 books and over 100 journal publications.
