Cultural shows on a TEDx platform

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found its words. Poetry is the lifeblood of rebellion, revolution, and the raising of consciousness. Malaika David, an Educator at Euro School Kharadi and a TEDx Speaker of repute made the most of the TEDx Youth @ Euro School Kharadi platform to convey her thoughts through a poem written by her. It was the second edition of TEDx Youth, where 67 girls presented different cultural programmes for a total of 16.36 minutes duration, however there were 15 other speakers too who spoke on separate issues at the event, which started at 10 am and continued till 5 pm.

The activity, organised and curated by Reshma Shaikh (49) of Pune, Maharashtra, became part of the India Book of Records

(IBR). Thus the record was set for the maximum number of girls who performed different cultural programmes on a TEDx platform. The event was held at the Euro School Kharadi Auditorium, on February 18, 2023. The students of Mount Carmel School and Euro School Kharadi, along with the Euro School staff, participated in various programmes. They belonged to the age group of 8 to 46 years.

“In a society that recognizes love, freedom, and beauty, dance is considered the most sacred act. Dance has the ability to fill our hearts with blissful joy. The students and faculty of our school put together an amazing dance performance, choreographed by our dance partner the Brian’s Academy of Dance,” said Reshma Shaikh (49), Principal, Euro School Kharadi, who is also a 3-times TEDx Organiser, Licensee and Curator of the popular event.

The participating girls highlighted the theme ‘Inspired to Inspire’ through their dance, music, and poetic performances. As they say - where words leave, music begins. Following this saying, the Mount Carmel Band displayed the spirit of teamwork in perfect synchronization of their musical instruments. The announcement of making it to the India Book of Records was shared on different social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook. Dr Chitra Jain, Adjudicator from the India Book of Records verified the attempt and presented the IBR certificate and a medal to Reshma Shaikh, the organizer. Mahesh Ambokar and Anubha Gupta were the special guests at the event.

Euro School Kharadi is a part of LightHouse Learning, one of India’s leading Early Childhood & K-12 Education groups. Euro School has a network of 15 K-12 schools comprising more than 25,000 students. Putting together such a big event required collaboration and cooperation. “However, challenges were met, boundaries were crossed, and constraints were overlooked. Team spirit surrounded everyone as well as the student volunteers,” said Reshma, adding, “Every performance had a magic of its own. It strived towards an inspiration to the audience and touched the hearts of many. The girls prepared and practiced in a timeframe of two weeks and rocked the stage.”

The record for the maximum number of girls performing different cultural acts on a TEDx platform was set by Reshma Shaikh of Pune, Maharashtra. A total of 67 girls performed at the Euro School Kharadi Auditorium for 16.36 minutes.
