SPOTLIGHT
A Classic Coming of Age Story: Little Women
December 1861. The March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—prepare for a Christmas without presents or their father, a Union army chaplain who is away at war. Thus begins Episode 1 of MASTERPIECE’s production of the timeless classic Little Women. Set against the backdrop of a country divided, the story follows the four March sisters on their journey from childhood to adulthood. Under the guidance of their mother, who the girls lovingly call Marmee, the four sisters navigate sibling rivalry, gender roles, first love, loss, and marriage.
Join the all-star cast, including the beloved Angela Lansbury as stuffy Aunt March, Emily Watson as the saintly matriarch Marmee, and Michael Gambon as the mysterious neighbor James Laurence. This 3-episode series is a warm and tender treatment of the Louisa May Alcott novel and one that is sure to fill you with holiday spirit!
Watch the series now at pbs.org/show/little-women or with the PBS Video App on your Smart TV, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, phone, or tablet.
Passport is an online streaming benefit available to WTIU members giving at least $5 monthly or $60 annually. For more information, call (800) 662-3311.

Chimes of Christmas
Sunday, December 18 at 7pm
WTIU is teaming up with Indiana University’s Singing Hoosiers to bring a holiday tradition into your home with Chimes of Christmas.
Directed by Dr. Chris Albanese, the Grammynominated Singing Hoosiers are a regional favorite with more than 70 years of tradition in contemporary vocal performance. They have entertained audiences across the United States and in more than 25 countries spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Caribbean. The ensemble has enjoyed collaborations with Duke Ellington, Bob Hope, Mel Tormé, Sandi Patty, Sylvia McNair, the Indianapolis Symphony, and the Cincinnati Pops under the direction of Erich Kunzel.
Recorded before a live audience at the Indiana University Auditorium, this year’s Chimes of Christmas production features a special performance of “The Ballad of the Brown King.” The piece is Margaret Bonds’ most performed work. It is set to the poetry of Langston Hughes and celebrates African participation in the nativity story through the figure of King Balthazar. The work incorporates elements of jazz and Gospel, set within the context of a lushly orchestrated choral/orchestral score. Along with the Singing Hoosiers, the piece will feature IU’s African American Choral Ensemble and NOTUS (the IU Jacobs School of Music Contemporary Vocal Ensemble) with a solo vocal quartet and full orchestra.
Chimes of Christmas is made possible with support from Greene & Schultz Trial Lawyers and IU Credit Union.
