THIS MONTH’S HIGHLIGHTS Rick Steves’ Why We Travel Tuesday, March 1 at 8pm In times of crisis and challenge, we ask ourselves: What is the true value of travel? After a lifetime of exploring Europe, Rick Steves shares his reasons why. This program is a sonnet to travel—an introspective love story set in Europe that vividly celebrates the rewards of exploring our world and the joy that awaits those who travel.

From Sea to Shining Sea Thursday, March 3 at 9:30pm In this stunning visual portrait, experience the grandeur of some of the most breathtaking places in the US. With a soundtrack from acclaimed audience favorites, the program also features poetry and quotes from modern and classic writers.

The Rolling Stones – A Bigger Bang: Live on Copacabana Beach Saturday, March 5 at 8pm Rock out with the legendary band at one of the biggest free concerts of all time, recorded in 2006 in Rio in front of an audience of 1.5 million fans. This fully restored and remastered concert includes four previously unreleased tracks.

An Evening with Lerner and Loewe – Broadway in Concert Sunday, March 6 at 6:30pm Celebrate the iconic songwriting duo with music from My Fair Lady, Camelot, Gigi, Brigadoon, and more. This special includes performances from Jenn Colella, Aisha Jackson, Jose Llana, Aaron Lazar, Michael Maliakel, Sean Thompson, and Bayla Whitten.

Sesame Street: The Monster at the End of This Story Monday, March 7 at 11am Grover is the star of his very own story! But, oh no! There’s a monster at the end of the story! So Grover does everything he can to stop the show and avoid the monster, but nothing works! With help from his friends, Grover learns it’s okay to feel afraid. By the end, he’s ready to meet the monster—only to discover that the monster is Furry, Lovable, and Brave— Grover!

Expedition with Steve Backshall: Unpacked Wednesday, March 16 at 10pm While Steve gets closer to the natural world in his aweinspiring close encounters with some of the planet’s most iconic wildlife in the remotest places on Earth, the success of these expeditions depends on the skill of a whole crew.

Great Performances – The Conductor Friday, March 25 at 9pm Born into a musical family in New York, Marin Alsop set her sights on becoming a conductor at just 9 years old while accompanying her father to one of Leonard Bernstein’s Young People’s concerts. Set to a breathtaking soundtrack of her performances, The Conductor tells Marin’s story through a combination of intimate interviews and unseen archival footage with her mentor Leonard Bernstein.

Independent Lens – Writing with Fire Monday, March 28 at 10pm In a male-dominated media landscape, the women journalists of India’s all-female Khabar Lahariya (News Wave) newspaper risk it all—including their own safety—to cover the country’s political, social, and local news from a women-powered perspective. From underground network to independent media empire—now with 10 million views on their YouTube site—they defy the odds to redefine power.

Even 1 Percent Matters Would you like to extend your annual support of WTIU past your lifetime so the community can continue to enjoy the programs that you value on WTIU? You may think you don’t have enough to make any kind of impact, but that simply isn’t true. Your gift, no matter the size, can ensure a future for WTIU and influence the lives of those who rely on it. Here is one easy method. Giving through your insurance policy or retirement plan assets won’t affect your current income. For instance, you can include WTIU as partial beneficiary—by dividing up your assets in percentages. In the case of retirement plan assets, ask your retirement plan administrator for a change-ofbeneficiary form. Contact your insurance company to ask how you can change beneficiaries in your life insurance policy. By putting aside a percentage of your assets—from 1 to 100 percent—you can leave a legacy with WTIU, while making sure you and your family have the security they may need in the future. For more information on how to support WTIU into the future, go to wtiu.org/support and look at the many options.

Calling All Unsigned Indiana Musicians: Enter the 2022 Tiny Desk Contest! The Tiny Desk Contest—NPR Music’s annual nationwide search for the next great undiscovered artist to play a Tiny Desk concert—is back for its eighth year. Here’s how the Contest works: • To enter, you’ll need to record a video of you performing one original song (and make sure your video includes a desk!) and upload your video to YouTube. • You can submit your entry on the Contest website, tinydeskcontest.npr.org, between now and March 14. • To be eligible to win, you must be an unsigned musician and at least 18 years old. • If you win, you’ll play your very own Tiny Desk concert at NPR’s HQ and headline the Tiny Desk Contest On The Road Tour. For more information, visit the Tiny Desk Contest website at tinydeskcontest. npr.org.

Sanditon, Season 2 on Masterpiece Sundays at 9pm, beginning March 20 The fan-favorite drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final unfinished novel is back! After the first season’s finale left viewers hanging in suspense, the story continues with its high-spirited heroine, Charlotte Heywood, returning to the picturesque coastal resort of Sanditon and the companionship of her friend Georgiana Lambe. What adventures, scandals, intrigue, and above all else—romance— await Miss Heywood this season? Season 2 explores the classic quandary of how independent-minded young women can make their way in patriarchal Regency-era England. For some women in society, like Charlotte’s sister Alison, love and marriage are top of mind. But others, notably Charlotte and Georgiana, have mixed feelings about matrimony. The new season also introduces a number of alluring newcomers, including some military soldiers settling into town. During the Napoleonic Wars, young officers moved around the country with their troops, providing eligible women with dashing dance partners and potential matches. Sanditon features just such an enticing encampment of potential husbands and heartbreakers in the new season.

Season 2 is filled with pointed social commentary as well, including a storyline about boycotting the sugar trade (led by the headstrong and impassioned Georgiana), which is based on real-life events of the time. More dramas premiering this month:

Call the Midwife, Season 11 Sunday, March 20 at 8pm It’s Easter 1967, and celebrations are underway for a colorful Easter bonnet parade outside Nonnatus House.

Before We Die Sunday, March 20 at 10pm This powerful Swedish thriller features nail-biting action and a unique, compelling twist about a tough police officer, Hanna Svensson.
