Save the Date – Giving Tuesday 2021 Is Coming WTIU invites you to celebrate the power of generosity on Tuesday, November 30, by participating in Giving Tuesday, a global generosity movement created nine years ago to encourage people to give back to the causes and organizations they care about. Together, we can lift up the organizations that make our community healthy and vibrant. And this Giving Tuesday is especially important to WTIU because of the potential it holds—for the communities we serve, and for you. It’s an extraordinary opportunity to build up the resources that support WTIU programming and services—all the things we couldn’t do without your help each and every day. As we approach the end of another difficult, unpredictable year, it’s comforting to know some things do remain reliable and trustworthy—community treasures like WTIU. No matter what is happening in the world, WTIU is here for you. We harness the power of honest reporting and compelling storytelling to connect communities, and to improve the lives of your friends, family, and neighbors throughout the Hoosier state. You can rely on WTIU to deliver programs and services that respond to the ever-changing needs of this moment. However, we couldn’t do any of this without your investment in us. WTIU members and supporters power our ability to inspire, engage, educate, and entertain our entire audience, including those who can’t afford to give. This is a time of great challenge and great possibility. If you are able, we hope you will join this effort as we celebrate Giving Tuesday. Thank you!

Singing Winds: The Life and Works of T.C. Steele Sunday, November 28 at 8pm Also on
Theodore Clement “T.C.” Steele was one of the most celebrated American Impressionist painters of his time. Singing Winds: The Life and Works of T.C. Steele looks at the life and works of the great Hoosier Impressionist—from his hardscrabble youth, to his journey through some of the major art centers of Europe, to his return to his native Indiana, where he captured the subtle beauty of the Midwestern landscapes. Born on a farm in tiny Gosport, Indiana, T.C. Steele’s father died when he was a young teen, which during the Civil War era would have meant a life of hard labor on the farm for most helping to support their families. But Steele’s journey was a most unusual one—from early art and music classes that his mother insisted he take to a surprising opportunity to travel to some of the world’s top art schools in Europe. Eventually Steele returned to his native Hoosier state and began a remarkable career in portrait painting, and, most famously, as one of the nation’s premier landscape painters at a time

when the genre was only just beginning to take root across the United States. At the pinnacle of his career, Steele was celebrated as one of the leading plein air artists in America. Two-time Grammy Award winner Sylvia McNair narrates the documentary. An opera soprano, classical recitalist, and recording artist with more than 70 albums to her name, McNair’s work also includes several critically-acclaimed albums in the Broadway and cabaret genres. Production support for Singing Winds: The Life and Works of T.C. Steele comes from Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations and the WFIU/ WTIU Documentary Programs Fund.
