t is a well-known fact that channel partners, particularly the solution providers, are considered to be the backbone of tech vendors/OEMs. They are the ones who, most of the time, interface with customers and come out with targeted solutions. And this is the reason why they are often termed as trusted advisors. Time and again these solution partners have proven their worth by coming up with innovative offerings and addressing the customer requirements. Looking at the exemplary work of these channel organisations, CRN constituted Excellence Awards to honour the solution providers who demonstrate innovative use of a particular technology or a combination of technologies to create a distinct business benefit for their customers. This includes deploying a completely new solution or an innovative use of an existing technology to give their customers a competitive edge, improve operations, become more responsive to customers and partners or, simply, to add to the top or the bottom line. The 3rd edition of CRN Excellence Awards, which was organised in Pune last month, celebrated the enduring
legacies and stellar performances of these industry players. However, it was a tough task to select the winners in different tech categories, as we had received more than 200 nominations this year. Having said that, the jury after much deliberation, selected the best of the lot and recognised them for their efforts. Apart from the solution partners operating out of metro cities, this year a lot of upcountry partners had nominated their projects. Sensing this, we created a special category of awards, called Trailblazers, for recognising these partners from tier II and III cities who are not only scaling up their business but have also created a niche for themselves in this competitive landscape. Most importantly, like last year, this edition of CRN Excellence Awards also acknowledged the special efforts of those solution partners who have created their own IP (Intellectual Property) and have established themselves distinctively in the market. We hope that by recognising the superlative work of the channel partners, CRN can further bolster their growth journey.

The third edition of CLS 2019 began with a fireside chat with one of the industry veterans, Devendra Taneja, Managing Director, PC Solution, who jogged the audience’s memory about his initial business struggle and how his business evolved from a timid PC distributor to a new-age cloud partner. This gripping session was conducted by Srikanth RP, Group Editor, Express Computer and CRN India. Taneja further shared insights on business models that work for the PC business. He shared with his fellow partners, how his farsightedness helped the business to move on to new technology before it gets commoditised.

They want to take their own licenses – proprietary or open source – and not get into a lock-in. He said, “That is the reason our multi-cloud blueprint exists. AWS, Azure, Google and Nutanix are talking on multi-cloud as there are now multiple places for the customers to run their apps.” In his session, Amarish Karnik, Director - Channel Sales & Alliance, India & SAARC, Veeam, shared his belief that the best of solutions don't sell unless sold by the best channel partner. He reiterated that Veeam has operated 100 per cent through the channel and the company’s success in the market can largely be attributed to this approach. A large section of his presentation was around how Veeam is becoming a platform for the multi-cloud and hybrid cloud era. In a session titled, 'Creating environment for data to thrive', Bhavin Shah, Regional Sales Manager, Western Digital, gave a glimpse of the vast range of storage solutions which is catering to the need of growing data storage. The customer's business as a GST Suvidha Provider started only after Adit Microsys implemented the solution. Without this set-up, they could not operate as a GST Suvidha Provider. They were one of the earliest providers to go live and at a lower cost. The biggest differentiator is that this was not a project that supported a mission critical activity of an organisation. In this case, the set-up was, itself, the business. Without this set-up, the customer's business could not have started. The complex cloud set-up on Azure and working closely with different OEMs were other huge challenges which were successfully addressed. Adit Microsys co-ordinated with Microsoft, Airtel and various other vendors to bring everything together. Thus, the customer did not require any other technical resource to set up this complex solution. Adit Microsys provided 24/7 services to ensure client's business gets going in the right away. In absence of this, the client would have to hire people to manage this cloud set-up. Adit Microsys' services helped save the custmer's expense by taking care of emergency services.

CICI Securities was looking to improve efficiency and effectiveness by reducing its reliance on manual data transfer processes. As the firm has a large data processing infrastructure that handles high volumes of highly confidential data, it needed a secure file transfer solution that is: scalable – an MFT platform that grows with the company; secure – encryption and data security at all stages; and trusted – a secure file transfer solution recognised and trusted in the financial industry. SYSTECH implemented enterpriseclass managed file transfer solution for ICICI Securities and ICICI Bank, wherein they can connect and securely transfer large size files within the organisation and to their partners and associates. Headquartered in Mumbai, ICICI Securities operates out of over 75 cities and towns in India, and global offices in Singapore and New York. The challenge included supporting key business processes and find data transfer efficiencies with automation and secure file transfer. ICICI Securities exchanges data with both internal and external entities. Various teams and departments within the
organisation consume the data for their business processes like customer acquisition, KYC formalities, sales and operations. Before deploying Enhanced File Transfer (EFT), most of these teams and departments had dedicated resources for managing files and data. They had to manually upload/download data and manually keep track of the files. These manual processes not only consumed a lot of resources, but also increased the possibility of errors. Significant time was lost doing manual reconciliation of information to ensure accuracy. Given the large data processing infrastructure needed to support its business processes, ICICI Securities looked for a secure file transfer solution that met the following requirements: ◗ Scalability: With customer acquisitions growing every year, the firm needed a solution which can support the growth in document exchange volume between various entities. ◗ Security: ICICI Securities not only wanted data to be transferred on secured channels, but also wanted
14 I COMPUTER RESELLER NEWS I DECEMBER, 2019 I crn.in
data to be encrypted during exchange. ◗ Industry expertise: ICICI Securities wanted to work with a company that was recognised and trusted in the financial services industry; therefore, it chose Systech Technocraft Services, a valued master partner of Globalscape, Inc. “We chose Globalscape over the others for its exhaustive functionality, ease of implementation and maintenance, and of course the affordable cost of the solution. Systech Technocraft Services has capable team of engineers who can supply, install, configure and provide aftersales support for Globalscape MFT solutions,” said Yagnesh Parikh, CTO. ICICI Securities chose EFT Enterprise to implement a powerful managed file transfer platform that provides security at all stages, including data in transit and data a rest. By using EFT's Automation Engine, ICICI Securities was able to easily automate complex workflows to replace manual intervention. The client also employed EFT's Auditing and Reporting Module (ARM) to provide advanced tracking and reporting capabilities.

umbai based multi branded enterprise security provider, Silicon Netsecure specialises in information security, storage and backup solutions, DR, virtualisation, business continuity and emailing solutions. It largely focuses on solutions such as data leakage prevention, encryption, SIEM, lPS, Firewalls, APT, MDM, SLB and GSLB solutions, IAM and PIM solutions, and cloud solutions with a strong hold in customer-application deployment scenarios. Recently, a Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) approached Silicon to protect 115+ public facing servers and virtual machines against Ransomware threat. They also needed to secure their network across all their locations as a part of Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) security standards. Based on the customer's requirement, the Silicon team suggested Sonicwall and McAfee's Firewall brands with integrated ATP feature and it was deployed at the DC and site offices. The deployed solution
was able to granularly control the endpoint access based on the corporate policies. Adding ATP and Application Control on the servers and endpoints was an added layer of security to prevent Ransomware attacks. The project was carried out at a massive scale covering 115 plus servers at the DC, Firewalls at 57 locations and around 3450+ users were benefited. All the devices were per-configured at Silicon’s office and then shipped at the customer 's end. The solution was remotely deployed thereby saving staff travel time and deployment cost as well as kept the TCO very low. For a fairly large NBFC with pan India presence up-time is extremely critical. The zero day threats were an issue for the client given that they have 115+ number of public facing servers. The public data stored by them as a part of compliance securing the same was required as per government norms. It helped achieve the same by having dual layer of protection at the gateway and endpoint. This helped prevent any zero day threat attacks to the entire

network, thereby securing it thoroughly. The outcome of the project kept the RoI and TCO as per the satisfaction level. The proactive customer support rather than reactive one boosts the client confidence and helps the company with support renewals as well. The partner deployed best of breed products in the shorted time span of 45 days. The success of this project is purely dedicated to the highly professional team of Silicon Netsecure. The time frame in which the project is completed is itself one of the achievements of this project. The entire process, from delivery, set up, to final migration, took only 45 days. There was no loss of work hours for the company to implement this project successfully. The customer has not only saved the cost on implementation but also moved forward from the earlier complex security infrastructure. Lastly, with multiple products being deployed, Silicon provided two management consoles for ease of management and time saving for the client.

he client company was established in 1964 and has a presence in 15 locations across India. The head office became a victim of cyber attack, despite having various security tools installed. The attack was in the form of ransomware. The ransomware attack not only encrypted the entire data of the organisation, since the data and operations were centralised, but the entire business across India was also impacted for four days. This caused disruption in normal business working and direct financial loss. Although the IT team reacted, it was necessary for the client to know the cause of the breach and to seriously understand cybersecurity and their cyber resilience capabilities. Matrix3D Complete IT Infrastructure Assessment (CIIA) checked all the boxes and helped the client restructure and conduct business with the assurance that IT is monitored, and various gaps have been evaluated and plugged to prevent future attacks. The client had already invested in the enterprise-level firewall, virtualised server software, and quality hardware, yet the attack
happened. Matrix3D suggested assessing the current IT infrastructure to understand the deployed IT system and how is it used. The client agreed with the approach and the study revealed various gaps in the current network which shows vulnerabilities due to configuration errors or inadequate vendor support and other controls that had not been updated. It may also have an impact in the future if those findings were not addressed in a timely manner. Matrix3D Infocom has used its structured audit and assessment framework to analyse the vulnerabilities. The framework looks at technical, organisational and operational aspects of the IT landscape, which helped to understand the root cause and not just the symptoms and vulnerabilities. The framework brought in security by design and a strict control process in the IT Landscape. Matrix3D redesigned the business processes and defined the policies at the userend for the IT team. The client had already invested in various technologies that would suffice the business requirements. This investment needed a technical
architect to connect the dots and make it work. Also, during the process, the client had not looked at security holistically and expected that the system would have inherent and default protection. The client now understood the mapping of business needs to the IT equipment that fulfills it. This has brought down investments and inclusion of unnecessary IT devices. Equipment and licences lying across for meeting compliance were brought into use, to increase productivity. Finding the optimum use of services in internet bandwidth, firewall, server, and other IT areas has saved the client over 60 per cent in the total annual budget and the impact will be far-reaching. Post-deployment, the business reduced its annual expenditure by 30 per cent as they don't need to renew or upgrade licenses that they do not use and retire various obsolete software and hardware. The client has improved its security framework by putting policies and monitoring controls in place. The client is assured that there is zero per cent malware or hidden vulnerabilities in the IT landscape.

ontinuous Vulnerability Assessment and Remediation is an ongoing problem which if unattended opens the Pandora’s Box in the cybersecurity landscape. Cyberattack containment becomes very difficult if the vulnerabilities is not remediated in the client digital assets. RBI, a leading bank which has over 3200 branches across India was facing the issue and was looking for a solution. Since the branches of the bank are spread across the geography, connectivity issues prevail and updates and software distribution has to be done in a specific manner so that day to day operations continues in a seamless fashion. Raksha Technologies understood the criticality and framed a solution for the Continuous Vulnerability Assessment and Remediation. It suggested and implemented an Endpoint and Server Lifecycle Management Solution from a leading brand. The solution provided is a market leader in terms of breadth of coverage, speed, automation and cost effectiveness, providing comprehensive OS and third-party application patches. The solution, which includes deploying a single
multipurpose, lightweight intelligent agent to all endpoints. An effective endpoint security and management platform can meet all these goals as it simplifies management processes, enhances endpoint control and provide a centralised view with a single, easyto-use graphical user interface. Raksha Technologies initiated few customisations in the tool and the endpoints grouping based on location. To update the patches for the larger group in the bank, Raksha Technologies designed a relevance condition for the concern endpoint, so that it can reduce the time taken for each location accordingly. Also, created throttling for bandwidth consumption to reduce business impact and by processing this we were able to achieve in low bandwidth at the speed of 512 Kbps. RBI has 11 categories for endpoint patching to be met on RBI compliance audit. Banks that are failing to meet the RBI compliance will end up paying penalty. However, now with timely patch deployment the banks was able to meet the compliance100 per cent and able to meet the banking standards. Prior to Raksha Technologies’ solution deployment,
18 I COMPUTER RESELLER NEWS I DECEMBER, 2019 I crn.in
the bank used to send an individual agent to the respective location for patch deployment and this has been completely stopped after the successful deployment of BigFix. Also, another significant reason is to validate the report generated by each individual for respective location on patch management and that also has been stopped as now the report is directly from the server. Whenever, the bank purchases a new software product and wants to deploy in all endpoints, it ends up paying a huge money for the software vendor. However, post the BigFix installation, the bank was able to deploy all the required software through Raksha Technology’s software distribution and save immense amount of time and money. Meeting the RBI compliance every quarter was their biggest challenge irrespective of assigning multiple agents to respective locations for collecting the details of the assets / patching took five days for 65 per cent of completion. Wherein, after the installation of the solution, they were able to complete the above in two days for 90 per cent, and this made them achieve the RBI compliance with a single resource and has given good RoI.

witching over to nextgen endpoint security technology provided by Value Point liberated a logistics giant from advanced threats. Value Point Systems could transform cybersecurity functions from reactive to proactive and gain more visibility and control on the threats across endpoint and network vectors. A leading logistics company spread over 200 locations across 5,000 users was using traditional endpoint security technology. However, the solutions could not detect advanced threats which prompted the organisation to switch over to a better one. Value Point then provided the organisation with customised, advanced solutions that could detect and resolve many critical threats without interrupting business operations. Value Point deployed the advanced, next-gen solution within only a four day time period across 200 locations and 5,000 users. The solution also had a small footprint and did not interfere or stall the regular business operations at the logistics organisation. Having reached saturation over the period, the traditional antivirus could not detect the unknown that was
getting into the Logistics Company’s network, as the threat landscape had changed so rapidly. The antivirus could not continue to keep pace with the real menace, which included the file-less attacks that exploited the vulnerabilities in the operating system itself. The previous antivirus had hidden ransomware, advanced malware that connected many external malicious domains. In other words, the existing overall endpoint antivirus solution was faulty to a very large extent. On this marquee Cyber Security Transformation Project having the right balance of people, process and technology, Value Point has combined and delivered risk advisory and consulting services, technology integration services and managed security services. Value Point conducted a security maturity model assessment, identified risks across the organisation (operations, facilities, human resources, IT infrastructure etc.) and provided recommendations for all components of information security and developed a roadmap. Value Point also conducted a comprehensive risk assessment, developed policies,
procedures and supporting forms, templates for information security. Conducted Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) for IT infrastructure and web applications, identified vulnerabilities and provided recommendations for mitigation. It then conducted a security architecture review of IT infrastructure and identified gaps. Post assessment of the existing security compromises made due to vulnerabilities in the entire network, Value Point designed and deployed a solution which is combination of next generation Firewall with Layer 7 Visibility on the Network Perimeter and next-gen antivirus with EDR for the endpoints. With this next-gen antivirus, the logistics giant was able to gain high visibility on the application installed; rogue machines in the network; the status of the user account that was used; inventory of the assets in the system; and the advance threats on the machine that were evaded from the detection of the previously used traditional antivirus. Added threat investigation and forensic capability helped in gaining full visibility and the endpoint security posture of the organisation.

t was a rural banking project. The main branch was in Mumbai and the bank wanted to expand in the shortest span of time to rural areas after getting the rural banking license. Now the task for Secure Network Solutions India Pvt Ltd was to securely transfer banking data from remote villages to main DC in Mumbai. The major challenge was to get leased line or broadband connection in remote villages. Either it was taking too much time or sometimes it was unreliable and in many places it was not available. Getting back leased line or broadband was not feasible at most of the remote villages, while data security was another concern. Secure Network Solutions gave solution based on mobile connectivity instead of leased line or broadband connectivity. Leased line / broadband was a challenge at remote locations but mobile connectivity was available at all places. Thus, Secure Network Solutions suggested mobile connectivity devices which can support multiple mobile data cards in one device. It can support 4X4G or 4X3G
connections in one device. So four mobile data cards (or SIM) can be taken and put in one device and it would add all the four connections into one single bandwidth. This was good enough bandwidth to run the rural branches. Backup was also taken care by taking SIM from two different mobile service provider (say 2 X BSNL and 2 X JIO). The device was able to add both the bandwidths and could act as failover in case one service provider had an issue. Security was taken care by having secure VPN tunnel between remote end device and main DC end device. Using proprietary VPN instead of customary IPSEC VPN, the speed was at least four times more and data transfer speed was very good. This way, the bank achieved what it needed and Secure Network Solutions have implemented the solution in over hundred rural branches in records time. Secure Network Solutions is into securing businesses worldwide since 2000. Now the company offers offers end-to-end IT Security solutions from

reating a smart digital classroom setup across the campus of an esteemed educational Institution with backend integration of all classrooms into the intranet and datacenter storage thereby providing a strong integrated digital classroom platform was the requirement. It also needed to be very easy to use for both the teachers and students by being very close to the physical experience but still delivering all the benefits of digitalisation. Moreover this solution was also meant to solve the problem of non-availability of faculty at times, better availability of and access to teachers /professors and their content by students. While it was required that the faculty and students experience improved interaction and involvement inside the classroom. Thus, Comprehensive Consultancy did use an innovative mix of unique audio visual -touchscreen technology alongside datacenter technologies using the management and streaming servers on cloud and on LAN including local SAN storage. Unlike in most places where people use interactive whiteboards and ultrashort throw projectors with a PC for delivering digital classroom
content which is so cumbersome in practical usage that it seldom gets used on regular basis, Comprehensive Consultancy deployed a one touch start device - the high-end interactive Ultra 4 K Interactive Flat panel- with built in windows and android PC, integrated audio, integrated WiFi, built-in SSD storage with all requisite network connectivity. This took care of content delivery by replacing the whiteboard, the projector, desktop etc. Comprehensive Consultancy integrated this with the backend intranet network management and streaming servers along with the data centre SAN storage to provide complete content management with archival retrieval and distribution facilities, thereby creating a very unique solution architecture which is the first of its kind in the country. Prior to the solution deployment by Comprehensive Consultancy, the faculty would use a standard black/whiteboard and sometimes a projector to use a PPT for lecture delivery. The spontaneous content created on the blackboard had to be copied by students before the faculty wiped it clean. The PPT slides could be made available to students
afterwards but only on email or offline basis requests or else it would remain as an island of information only to be used by the specific professor. Mostly not accessible after sometime (except for classrooms which had an interactive whiteboard with a projector and PC, UPS combination which was seldom used as it was cumbersome to switch on and align multiple devices, also it did not have LAN integration). Post deployment, the blackboard writing, the PPT presentation, videos and any other content even contributed right then or earlier by students in the class can all be delivered from a single device at a time with much better visibility and audibility, while it could be easily shared, distributed and reused. One significant benefit to student among others is that they can interactively contribute from their devices and receive all intent digitally thereby focus on learning and not just copying information. Benefit to the management is that they can create a central repository of IP and content which grows over the years and makes it easy to substitute, to multiply or hold extra classes as and when needed.

Shro Systems' client's initial requirement was 200 VMs with 30TB storage and 1.5 TB memory plus backup solution for the new infrastraucture. They wanted a couple of things out of the project including highly available infrastraucture; do away with costly annual expansion upgrades; eliminate the need for expensive offsite DR; reduce backup and restore window; dynamic T&D environment; and a hyper scalable platform. For this project, Shro Systems recommended and positioned HPE Simplivity380 which is a new age HCI
solution. It eliminates the use of old traditional hardware and enhances the performance and business outcomes. Customer was excited with the hyper Guarantee Shro Systems offered with SimpliVity which gave assurance on offered solution. Shro Systems also deployed an AI tool called Infosight which helped a customer to reduce operational expenses with automated wellness alerts, self-learning capability, service bot based call handling and overall asset manageability. Prior to the deployment of Shro Systems' solutions it took longer infra deployment cycles; the platform was not seamless across locations; the infrastructure was old and traditional with too many dependencies and competency required to manage it. However, post deployment of the solution, it enabled faster VMs deployment, it made workload seamless across multiple locations and enhanced other features. Also, the client got a very high performance benefit with this solution, it achieved a spin-up of 110 VMs in less than 30 minutes and were able to host mutiple flavour of OS virtual

These apps provide various information such as case status and case number, wise advocate wise, party wise, orders case number wise, coram wise reported judgments and orders. The already existing infrastructure was lacking behind in supporting these apps. The customer wanted a fail-safe and scalable solution for the same. Now the mother application is available, called eCourts. Ace Brain deployed a total of 533 Dell servers at one go in various sites like the data centre in Mumbai and District Courts in two-level architecture to collate information to be updated in apps. Ace Brain proposed sucurity as root of trust technology to the customer which is available with Dell and Intel together in their servers which protects the deployed applications. The customer selected Ace Brain for the project, as it
offered secure solution and data residing on these servers is very critical and confidential. Prior to the deployment, there was lack of infrastructure at customer data centre to take on volumes of two types – data coming from various courts and mobile app hits to the E-Court application. To address this, Ace Brain has deployed servers in the data centre as well as district courts, where information relating case, judgements, evidences, etc., is sent from Taluka or smaller courts to districts. Whereas, districts send the same to the state HQ. Post deployment, the eCourts mobile application, case history and status of nearly all pending cases across 21 high courts and 18,000 district and subordinate courts in India. The digitisation process across courts has also helped reduce a lot of time and paperwork and has helped speed up the judicial process. Transfering files from High Court to Supreme Court tends to be timeconsuming and there may be a chance that some file doesn't reach on time. However, after digitisation, all the data can be transferred digitally through proper channels.

veryone who has ever been frustrated driving around urban areas in search of parking has wished for a solution that could quickly lead them to that elusive spot. This concern attracted strategic investments from dedicated industry sectors to boost parking revenues through technology-enabled solutions. The parking industry is being revolutionised by new technologies that enable cities to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emission. The Internet of Things (IoT) permeates with the world of parking to streamline processes that deliver intelligent parking solutions, which extend and manage parking inventories. In this context, IoT uses embedded wireless sensor networks to connect physical parking space infrastructures with information and communication technologies, where cloud-based smart management services are provided. This interconnectivity shift is also driving social-economical changes, where data unleashed from physical infrastructures is leading to productivity gains through new applications and new business models.
A tier II city of Jharkhand wanted to implement a Smart Parking and Driver Assist System (SPDAS) which will help its users, by assisting them with their parking of vehicles. Thus, Som Imaging Informatics built the system will automatically provide all the details in the parking areas on the basis of processing all the sensors data. It is designed to be running on a low-budget platform and in the meantime, allowing its developers to eventually work-on and expand their controls over a variety of other inter-connected electronic devices and parking data analytics. The major solution components used were: Sensors, micro-controller and signal processing, IoT subsystem, storage capacity, communication resources, mobile application with Smart Parking Assist System. The project threw some serious challenges, the most-tough one being, there will not be any human or boombarrier at the entry and exit gate. It means there will be free movement of cows, human beings, motorcycles within the parking lot and the system has to discriminate them from motor vehicles. However, the solution with which Som Imaging Informatics came
36 I COMPUTER RESELLER NEWS I DECEMBER, 2019 I crn.in
up with to tackle the issue is unique. The most innovative part of the solution lies here. Instead of one IR beam, it used dual IR sensing at gates and developed complex algorithm of beam interruption pattern to discriminate other moving objects from cars. Also, the beam interruption vector gives the direction of the car’s movement. So when the city authorities wanted to make smaller parking lots with only one gate, it had no issues with the same. That also made it budget friendly. Thus, there are numerous benefits experienced after the system was installed. The solution now accurately predicts and senses/spots vehicle occupancy in real-time; guides drivers to available parking; optimises parking space usage; simplifies the parking experience adding value for parking stakeholders; helps traffic in the city flow more freely; enables intelligent decision making using data, including real time and historical analytics reports; ensures better and real time monitoring and managing of available parking space, resulting in significant revenue generation; and provides tools to optimise workforce management.

he project was basically to connect ATMs of various banks with a central monitoring centre for managing and monitoring of ATMs. The challenges faced by ATMs are extreme and severe incidences of theft and human life threats are reported on a daily basis. Also, uncontrolled and unwanted expenses hit the bottom line of banks and ATM operators. Guards are becoming an extremely expensive proposition to manage ATMs plus add to additional overhead expenses. Now the goals to be achieved are that firstly in case of any incidence occurring at ATM, immediate help should be made available before a theft takes place or any threat to human life occurs. Secondly, in case of any incidence alarms could be raised, sirens could be buzzed, automatic call to local police station should go, two way communication can happen with the intruders and everything should be recorded for forensic purpose. And thirdly, all appliances in the ATM should be controlled by automatic sensors so that they can be turned off and on whenever needed. Generally guards would sleep inside
ATM with the AC on for the whole night, signboards are on during day time as guards forget to switch off signboards during the daytime. Thus Compton Computers created a panel with it's own processor and processing capabilities (through Raspberry Pie, in which Compton Computers load its machine language software) and made provision to connect to various appliances in the ATM ( like AC, lights, electric meters, signboards, CCTV, access controls etc) through sensors. These sensors are then connected to this panel through wires and appliances are connected to sensors. Desired control and data inputs are gathered through sensors and processed in the panel. The collated information is sent to central control room through routers. At the control room, Compton Computers has elaborate software to accept data and give control to operators (like to switch off/ on lights, signboards, check electric meters etc). With this now, the operator can check live feed of the ATM through CCTV, engage in a two way communication with intruders, buzz
sirens and hooters, etc. Compton Computers control room software lets the operators to take complete control of the ATM, manage and monitor it, make past footage available in case of any event, build analytical reports on which ATM is getting maximum theft attacks, which ATM is most efficient, kind of incidents that occur, reaction and resolution time of each alerts, etc. Today banks like, HDFC, SBI, LVB, ICICI, IDBI, PNB are using Compton Computers' solution. In all, the solution is deployed in over 15000 ATMs. Compton Computers' have capability to build, manage and operate, so this gives its clients an option to fully outsource the solution to them and need not worry on operating the solution, since it involves deep day to day live monitoring and management. Compton Computers has a pan India operations for this solution so the company can service any remote location, which may not be easily possible. The solution offers precise and accurate information, which is the main requirement and it's very unique to the solution.

ercept Solutions has been offering smart factory solutions and operational consulting to some of the largest global manufacturing companies. It has helped more than 150 clients throughout 30 different countries. This Mumbai based specialised in IoT company has helped its client organisations in meeting their strategic and business objectives in a short period of time. In a recent project, the partner deployed IoT based sensors to help predict downtime for critical machines in the manufacturing setup for its customer, among many locations throughout their plant on motors gearboxs, compressors and pumps. One of the locations, the solution was deployed on the cooling tower fan motor, in a speciality chemicals plant, as it is critical to the operations of the plant. The solution not only saved lives but also reduced major downtime and huge monitory loss by alerting its customers at 4 am that the motor foundation had got loose and could have led to a major incident in a highly hazardous environment. The pro-active approach made the client maintenance team aware, and could take an immediate action of a planned
downtime to fix the foundation problems. These are one of a kind sensors developed in India, which monitor machines for their stress parameters such as vibrations, temperature, and sound, builds a trend analysis on the edge, also it converts vibrations into frequency to know the band it falls in and highlights the data in FFT- Fast Fourier Transform, which can also help predict what is wrong with the machine such as misalignment, unbalance, bearing friction, etc. It collects data, passes it through the patented vibrations analysis system, shows it online on a cloud-hosted platform, and alerts if it finds something unusual in the machines via SMS and email. So they can take immediate action. The typical challenge in most manufacturing setups are, knowing where and when to look if failure is probable, and 70 per cent of the failures can be avoided, however, this requires a high level of skill, experience, understanding, and persistence to be able to do that. While most sensors are offline, and dependant on human skills and discipline, this solution uses multiple

elhi based Medley India Infosolution helped the Indian Railways build a crew management software system including biometric devices, Alcohol Testing Kiosk and Thin Client Devices for over 100,000 employees of Indian Railways via over 1200 kiosks. This centralised solution was developed jointly by CRIS and Medley India/VXL for providing information about these crew persons at all times and thus facilitates the booking of crew on freight trains, passenger carrying trains as well as short movements within terminals and yards. The software solution automates their day-to-day business functions by providing information of their status, rostering their duty allocations, providing information on the availability of crew at their home station and assigning crew to the trains. Moreover, the biometric authentication of each worker before and after their shift, and testing them for the consumption of alcohol had helped the Indian Railways manage the activities of the workforce, comprising of drivers and guards for the running of trains and
their safety. Traditionally, the Indian Railways has been developing IT solutions on client server technology; however, CMS was developed as a web-based system on J2EE and struts framework. The idea was to develop a near zero footprint solution so as to eliminate the nuance of a client required at each and every desktop/access point. The architecture adopted using Object Oriented Analysis and Design offered by Rational made the application OS and database independent and at the same time highly scalable, flexible, reliable and compliant with industry Open Standard specifications in lieu of the critical nature of the solution. The server architecture is designed to ensure a high-level of security to access different functional components. The system design is end-to-end UNIX and Linux thereby immunising the systems against malicious threats. The solution has with immense power to control the client locations from central location by way of maintenance tasks, time synchronisation, patch updates and

variety of user access requirements thus speeding up the service request handling from a remote location. Service requests can be lodged into the CMS system and are automated through SMS call lodging and reminder mechanisms. At the client side the users are authenticated via a biometric device (thumb impression reader) for logging onto the applications via a kiosk which ensures an audit trail and logging of activities for transparency and accountability. The project has been a game changer for improving efficiency by over 30 per cent for Indian Railways for their over 300+ lobbies (location where Railways crew are booked). It is a clear example as to how technology is utilized for a huge Infrastructure like Indian Railways for a society at large. Also, it has been rated as one of the most successful projects for Indian Railways. The system has been successfully deployed over 80 per cent of the locations across India in less than 18 months since its conception. There has been a remarkable increase in employee satisfaction.

elhi based ACPL Systems has further strengthens its foothold in the information security space. The two decade old technology company recently developed Autonomous Cyber Defence PlatformAttackFence to help organisations to reduce their security incident mean time to resolve (MTTR) from days to minutes by adding orchestration, automation, investigation, response and remediation layer to their existing cyber security infrastructure, with ground breaking log signalling technology. AttackFence increases the efficacy of SOC and incident management teams with effective incident management and threat hunting by automatically investigating the incident, collecting all the validated facts, creating and enforcing containment response and initiating the threat remediation procedures. It harnessed the capability of SOAR and Advance Detection and Response in Attackfence to address objective and goals from cyber security standpoint. The network sensor and analysis engine together helps to predict and investigate attackers' behaviour patterns,
enabling to detect and stop neverseen-before attacks. SOC automation using AttackFence log signalling engine ensures logs are available during the investigation. It enriches the events and alerts to eliminate the noise, prefetch the threat intelligence at machine speed. It creates an evidence to support decision-making and prioritises the most critical events for L3 Analyst case manager, which is an integral part of the solution and helps the customers to lower the overall MTTR by following the Change Management processes. The platform helps SOC teams face multiple challenges to identify, protect, detect, remediate and recover from cyber incidents. Security analysts are getting drained with alerts day in day out. They have to perform time-consuming tasks like removing false positives, performing repetitive responses, and keeping up with alerts from different security tools. They find it difficult to coordinate with multiple security products deployed in the most effective way. Also, the enablement of junior or new analysts remain a challenge. SOC Managers face tough
time in quantifying the RoI that security tools bring to their SOC. They constantly face SLA pressures along with struggle to reduce MTTR. Finally, the issue of the skills gap always remain; any senior analyst leaving the organisation can result in a fatal loss of expertise and a step back for the SOC. This platform enables the security teams to investigate possible malicious activities faster pace to minimise the response time. It performs investigative security actions from the Mission Control interface without losing context of the investigation. AttackFence response is not just limited to containment of host but also remediate it. DASHBOARD AttackFence provides unified window of analysed, benign and remediated data by orchestrating automation, investigation, containment and remediation capabilities that allow analysts to offload repetitive tasks and focus their attention on making the most mission-critical decisions. company wanted automated attendance solution. The company has 6,280 employees from 157 branches in 22 cities. This count will soon increase to 23,800 employees from 595 branches in 85 cities. The company sensed a lot of misuse happening in the physical presence and the number of hours worked by the employees. Each man hour was precious as the company is into time bound client service and every man hour had commercial impact as the number of employees was high in volume. More importantly it was difficult to manage the working hours of the employees from various branches and cities pan-India. Ameya InfraTech, thus, designed a solution to address this challenge very effectively, in an innovative way. It deployed IP surveillance cameras both at entry and exit points of the branch and the AI software was deployed at each location. Now, the solution recognises the face of each employee and records the first login, the last log out and the log in time between movements in the office for the entire day. This solution precisely gives the number of actual working hours of each employee
across branches. This is a rare combination of IP surveillance and artificial intelligence built on it with the usage of cloud technology. Ameya InfraTech used facial recognition to the next level with its algorithms built around. Pre-deployment scenario: The client was using biometric device to track the movement of the employees and found a major flaw in biometric device system. Employees were not punching during the day's movement, except for the first and last movement. The staff sneaked out of office without informing, engaged in other activities, come back to office and go late from the office which would finally show more number of working hours, which is not true. Post-deployment scenario: Once the solution was implemented, every movement of each employee is being captured and dashboards are created. As it is an automated movement system, the employees cannot fake their presence any longer. The dashboards have been provided for each employee with their photos, employee details, daily/weekly/monthly working hours,

hours spent outside office, etc. The state of the art dashboards have been provided both in tabular and graphical format. The investment and technology made for Automated Attendance Solution can be upgraded with minimal software addition for eventuality notifications, unusual activities notifications, differentiate the employees from visitors, contractors and vendors, heat map of people, internal journey of employee movement, notifications on nonusage of uniform, shoes, gloves, caps, etc in the production environment. Thus the solution is futuristic and scalable and it is an out-of-the-box usage of AI with surveillance. The solution has provided 97 per cent accuracy. IP, vandal-proof cameras with verifocal lense for central management, camera protection and close coverage were used. The face recognition algorithms were developed by Ameya InfraTech. It also provides APIs to connect the data for their salary calculations. It used Edge devices with GPU for thin file transfer between branches to head office. ne of e-Zest Solutions' client is among the leaders in the Claims Adjudication business, having an experience of more than two decades in the business. The client's goal was to improve their position in the market, gain an edge over competition and enhance security of business sensitive information. Given this initiative, e-Zest Solutions was approached to drive digital transformation by helping them overcome consistent business challenges faced in on-boarding new customers from other platforms, as well as provide claims rules alignment, workflow automation and on-demand data extraction for reporting. The proposed solution was to address efficient execution of the Claim Adjudication process, including: Seamless on-boarding of new customers from one platform to another, irrespective of varied rules on the platforms; detection of defects and anomalies in the claims; identification of mismatches between platforms rules as well as their alignment. The approach to solve the problem described above, especially with such a massive dataset, required comprehensive use of all the
capabilities of data engineering. Records from one adjudication platform had to be compared with those of another platform, wherein big data was leveraged to process millions of records daily and yield the results of mismatched records. The data of mismatched records was further utilised using data science to detect various anomalies, defects and exceptions that are violating the claims reimbursement rules across the two adjudication platforms. The data in numbers, tables and logs was not only massive, but also difficult to analyse and gain insights from. To tackle this, e-Zest Solutions' Tableau data visualization experts developed a variety of dashboards showing different graphs of clustering groups, from Bubble, Pie to the more conventional but intuitive ColumnStack, among other useful graphs. This enabled the client to gain crucial business insights and make useful decisions to prevent any potential claims errors. e-Zest Solutions' chief focus has always been to drive innovation, especially through automation and transformation of existing processes using advanced technologies. With
this very aim in mind, e-Zest Solutions brought in innovation for the client by leveraging the following in its solution: Defect prediction and clustering: This involves grouping of similar cases of claims and then assigning them to make informed and accurate underwriting decisions. The algorithm predicts the defect before it occurs and raises an alarm for underwriters to investigate a case. Decision tree: All the historical data contained in legacy files of claims certification was used to create a decision tree, which helped in avoiding incorrect decisions and accurate validation of claims. Anomaly detection: The machine learning algorithm helped detect anomalies. Post the deployment of the solution, the use of AI has helped create a leaner QA process, with 60 per cent cost reduction and improved accuracy. Due to automation of a number of manual tasks, not only has the testing and QA team's size been reduced, but has resulted in improved effectiveness and accuracy too. The automation, as well as anomaly detection and prediction, has helped reduce risk of redundancies, duplication and errors.

or Minfy Technologies, NRC Assam National Register of Citizen (NRC) is till date the biggest technology project and a massive drive to verify citizenship in India. It is aimed at identifying illegal immigrants who entered and settled in Assam. The current IT capacity of NRC is not even sized for one per cent of the expected traffic, with the 3.29 crore of applicants expected to do everification, right sizing and lead time to get the infrastructure, within a week's time. For such a load, it is highly challenging and the capital investments required to build the physical infrastructure and the procurement process involved was the major challenge for NRC. A total of 3.11 crore of citizen had verified their identity on the NRC portal without any downtime or specific access issues. The serverless solution, leveraging AWS, has made this project a referenceable one for any government to citizen (G2C) type of solution where traffic predictability is a major challenge. As the traffic will be highly unpredictable and of high volume, the current monolithic nature of the application would require to spun up
more of servers and was not a cost optimised solution. Minfy helped to modernise their application stack to make it compatible for a serverless architecture. The entire solution was built on a completely serverless architecture, leveraging AWS Lamda, without spinning one server. Minfy used a heterogeneous migration to Aurora using Data Migration Service. Using DMS-Data Migration Service of AWS, about 2.9 crore user data was migrated on AWS from MySQL to Aurora –MySQL. The data was stored in Single Table, giving another challenge to put scalability on the Read Endpoint. AWS- DMS- Data Migration Service was used to migrate data from Dev environment MySQL to Aurora Dynamo DB. AWS Database Migration Service supports homogenous migrations such as Oracle to Oracle, as well as heterogeneous migrations between different database platforms, such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon Aurora. With AWS Database Migration Service, NRC could replicate data with high availability and consolidate databases into a petabyte-scale data warehouse.
Since the data in the database is encrypted with KMS, snapshots are created to transfer the data from source endpoint to read endpoint. If NRC has to go for an on-premise solution for their requirement, the feasibility of setting up such a massive infra is a million dollar question; they should have spent at least a 1000x of CapEx for conducting the e-verification drive successfully. Hence, the solution provided by Minfy has helped to set up the required infrastructure on AWS cloud within a couple of days with minimal CapEx investment, the serverless approach has resulted in minimal spend, 30 times lesser than that of a monolithic architecture, yet achieving a hassle free user experience during the verification drive. The deployed solution covers optimised serverless solution, which was provided with help of AWS Lambda with Auto scale and Aurora for scalability, ease in migration of data of crores citizens using AWS Data Migration Services seamlessly. dMACQ Software CATEGORY: ROBOTIC PROCESS AUTOMATION (RPA)
I
n this project, dMACQ Software has used robotic process automation (RPA) with artificial intelligence and machine learning for automated testing of industrial machinery components, for an automobile industry customer. As part of the project, an Android mobile application has been designed as a front-end. The technology in the backend uses AI based computer vision and machine learning to recognise machine components. At the outset, the testing process at the client site has always been done manually and involved creation of several paper based information. The challenge faced by the client was to eliminate the paper trail, the human element in testing and fetch immediate results and cut down the test processing time. Use of computer vision technology recognises image patterns on a machinery component, accurately recognises the contours and calculates the various dimensions of the contours which are relevant to perform the test. This is otherwise performed by trained human test operators. Another innovative use is the comparison algorithm. dMACQ
uses advanced comparison algorithms to calculate deviations using multiple parameters to accurately determine the fault percentage compared to the allowed standard deviation. The use of advanced calculation eliminates the dependency on humans. dMACQ provided an innovative mobile app based solution which connected to SCADA system with a simple bar-code based integration. By connecting the mobile app to the SCADA system enabled identification of the component being tested and the result being relayed back instantaneous was also achieved using bar-coding technology. This ensured zero integration cost to the client or any need for any additional technology. Post-deployment, as soon as the component comes to the test station, the test operator uses the mobile app to scan the barcode affixed to the component. This identifies the component and also sends a signal back to the SCADA system. The operator uses the mobile app to take pictures of the components. The mobile application comes with standard in-built guides which ensure that the picture for each of the
50 I COMPUTER RESELLER NEWS I DECEMBER, 2019 I crn.in
component cannot be taken randomly and has to meet strict guides. This eliminates human error in taking pictures using mobile app. As soon as the process of taking pictures is completed, the mobile immediately renders all the test results on the mobile app in seconds and generates a bar code with the test results. The operator flashes the bar code to the bar code reader of the SCADA system and the test result is directly fed in to the production ERP. The component is now moved to its next logical step. The entire process is completed in about five minutes of arrival of the component in the test station. The company carries out about 2250 tests in a day. Each of the test uses about 25 pages. There is straight saving of about 56,250 pages per day. There have also been significant time savings; reduced from an average of 60-75 minutes of combined processing time to less than five minutes. This has increased the production capacity and allowed redeployment of skilled resources to more productive use. No third party vendors vendor or products were used. The entire application is built inhouse by dMACQ.

Courts is one of the pet projects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to digitise the Indian judiciary system. It was necessary to create an MPLS cloud and connect all the 3,000 courts in India, spanning more than 27 states and almost every district of India for seamless data exchange. This project was awarded by the Department of Justice to BSNL, who in turn wanted to appoint a managed network service partner to provide last-mile connectivity and manage the link for five years. HTP Global Technologies was awarded this project and has, as on date, installed and commissioned more than 2800 links on fibre and RF media. The solution required creation of an MPLS network to connect all courts on a private cloud. BSNL provided the fibre at each of the court premises. HTP Global Technologies supplied and installed CP equipment – routers and media converters – and then made the link up, running on the fibre provided by BSNL. In locations where fibre laying was not feasible, HTP installed RF kits for wireless communication between the court premises and BSNL tower. The project required that the links
should be constantly and proactively monitored and in case of link going down, necessary action be taken, including co-ordination with BSNL and on-site deployment of engineer to restore the link. Therefore, HTP used technology to provide these services. HTP established an NOC in its office premise and installed an NMS software, by which each and every link is polled every 30 seconds to check the link's functionality. In case, any link goes down, an alert is flashed on the screen and a ticket gets generated automatically and is flashed to the NOC executive to take action. The whole process of monitoring the link, logging a ticket and ticket closure is automated. Prior to the deployment, each court was working in silo and any communication between courts like service of summons in other states, etc., was done via post. This took months to complete. However, with the implementation of this project, there are two major benefits. The e-courts.gov.in website is live, on which anybody can know the status of court cases across any court of India in a single window.
Additionally, all delivery of summons between the courts of different states can now happen online immediately, resulting in faster disposal of pending cases. The products used in the project include: Cisco routers, D-link media converters, TP Link/IP Com RF kits. Whereas, all other services are provided in-house by HTP Global Technologies, including installation, commissioning, link monitoring, etc. This is one of HTP's single largest projects till date, value at ` 27 crore. HTP now has the capability to deliver any IT and telecom project in any part of India as this project spans across 27 states and more than 400 districts and has given the ability to provide service in any nook and corner of India. This project requires service capability to be developed in almost corner of India, right from Leh to Andaman and Nicobar islands and Maharashtra in West to West Bengal in East. HTP has installed routers in 3000 different courts in almost every district of India. The firm will now be maintaining this infrastructure for the next five years.

oida based Progressive Infotech recently helped Jubilant FoodWorks (JFL), one of the largest food service companies in India, which holds the master franchise for Domino's Pizza and also for Dunkin' Donuts in India, in its cloud migration for providing a scalable and available solution that adapts to the size and seasonality of its business. JFL needed to retire and refresh hardware, which was not performing as per the business requirements. Its existing infrastructure was prone to downtime and scaling the infrastructure was a huge challenge. After understanding the existing technology scenario at JFL, its technology provider Progressive helped JFL in migrating more than 45 TB of the dataset and over 65 servers from on-premises to the cloud. Progressive proposed a SAAS-based tool for automated application and service discovery and grouping. The current infrastructure included 60+ applications hosted on-premises, these applications included Business Critical Applications like SAP and OLO, an online restaurant ordering application. Approximately 80 per cent of the infrastructure was
Windows: 2003, 2008 and 2012. 45+ TB of the dataset included 1400+ database instances (MS SQL). Creating such a complex dependency map of all these databases with the application was a big challenge. 65+ servers were to be migrated from onpremises to AWS. As compared to the predeployment scenario, now JFL was able to keep track of resources and they were able to discard multiple non-critical workloads during the cloud migration. It proposed the server migration tool to manage all the complexities of the migration process, including automatically replicating volumes of live servers to AWS and creating new AMIs periodically. After the solution was agreed upon, a smooth deployment process was initiated. Migration started with the least critical workloads, the User Acceptance Testing (UAT). This helped the client to get the required confidence in moving to the cloud. There onwards, they followed a phased approach for the migration of other workloads. Phases were designed based on application dependency mapping created using

RISC Network Cloudscape tool. The Application team performed smoke testing to ensure that everything will operate smoothly after moving to the cloud. The deployment planner had all the milestones and timelines mentioned which ensured that the project was completed on time. According to Progressive, the core challenge from on premise to cloud, included migrating a server, that was connected to 1400+ database instances, on the cloud. This was done with ease and without impacting any of those instances or resulting in a single minute of downtime. Creating such a complex dependency map of all these databases with the application was a big challenge. Under the first phase, Orange along with nodal agency Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL), created a robust system for 34 command and control centres, and one Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in the capital. The scope includes implementation, operations and management for five years. It is supported by the computing infrastructure, storage, network, applications, and IT security at the state command control centres. The solution seeks to provide real-time surveillance and traffic solution at designated areas/locations, good quality video images, high-quality evidence suitable for challan generation, admission into all Courts, integration and compatibility with existing systems such as Dial-100, HDIITS, RTO, Vahan Sarathi, all control rooms of state, digital maps of city villages and state, any state communication system, etc. And data base as necessary, and will contain and utilise video analytic capabilities, which includes Automatic Number Plate Recognition System, Red Light Violation
Detection System along with other additional video analytic features that will assist operators in identifying pre-described events, situations, actions and detection of deviant behaviuors, traffic rule offenders and criminal activities, etc. Using advanced analytics software and hardware solutions from Cisco, Huawei, Videonetics and D-Link, Orange develops a common platform for a holistic city view that will provide unified public safety services, coordinating security response units, city police, and medical dispatch. The advanced command and control centre is being set up to receive video feeds from more than 6,300 IP cameras over a future-proof wireless network. Overall, the deployed solution runs sophisticated video analytics to monitor crowds and traffic congestion, detect incidents of theft, observe suspicious people or objects, and trigger automated alarms in emergency situations. T
he city of Pune is known for its traffic woes. The Pune Police has embarked on a major initiative to improve traffic conditions, especially related to citizen safety. However, the Pune Metro Area Police has limited resource on the roads. Hence, they wanted to seek help from the citizens to report such cases, so that appropriate actions could be taken. They planned development of a mobile application for citizens, who can report traffic violations, incidents and traffic related information. The mobile application for citizens should serve the cause, where citizens can capture information of the incident in the form of multiple pictures, set priority, add text message and send to the police back-end traffic monitoring system, which is supervised by the traffic control room. The police would analyse the incidents and take appropriate action, including issuing e-challans for collecting fines on traffic offences. Allied Digital has implemented the Pune Safe City project. There were several challenges in developing such application, inclusing budgetary challenges, as it is for the common public; huge scalability requirement;
backend queuing of incidents for analysis and approvals; integration with the existing Pune Safe City traffic command centre; integration with RTO for getting owner details and e-challan system to issue penalty; escalation within the police network. The solution was developed and tested on iOS and Android. The application has capabilities to take multiple pictures, geo co-ordinates, registration of each application user, and optimisation of bandwidth to send the data securely to the central server. The solution, Satark Punekar, for traffic violations, was launched in 2019 and has become a huge success. Allied Digital has developed the mobile application using Apache Cordova technology for the end user devices and PCS Console application using Microsoft WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) for Pune Traffic Station to get list of alerts and generate tickets. Scalability, interoperability, high availability, bandwidth utilisation were the critical parameters. Since citizens could send multiple pictures, Allied Digital has developed a special compression mechanism to optimise the bandwidth usage and

storage technique to store thousands of images. The application had to work on 3G/4G on multiple types of phones. Being a mobile app, upgrades needed to be easy. To ensure the same, Allied Digital developed a special test bed to ensure smooth upgrades for new features and OS version compatibility. The mobile application is running for over months now, and thousands of citizens have started using it actively, with over two lakh violations already reported and fines collected. There is now a proactive attempt by Pune citizens to obey traffic rules and a mechanism is now in place to report incidents immediately to the police with the geographic location. The police is making its active use in various situations including acting on violations and incidents and driving investigations. DCP, Traffic Pune, Tejaswi Satpute said that traffic cops cannot remain present at all the 1350 chowks in the city hence the app is very helpful. Pune Police Commissioner K Venkatesham commented that fatal accidents have reduced by 23 per cent as compared to previous year. The target is to achieve 50 per cent reduction in fatalities.

he journey of Bloom Electronics has many interesting milestones. The company started on January 2, 1991. Initially it grew as a hub for consumables like floppies, floppy disks drives, printer ink cartridges, etc. In 1993, the company started selling hardware. The year 1995 was all the more interesting and significant for the company with India
opening the doors to global business, whereby imports became legal. “Right from the day one, it somehow so happened that every vendor’s first choice would be Bloom Electronics for the specific location. Every distributor’s bill number one would be Bloom. For that matter, Dell’s first distributor in 2008 when they came into channels was Bloom. The

first Dell store in APAC was by Bloom,” says S Karthikeyan, MD, Bloom Electronics. According to Karthikeyan, what went really right for Bloom was the ability to foresee demand and need of the time. The acquiring of a software company, choosing the right product line are some of the many things that exactly fell in line for them. “We are strategically placed in such a way that even if one business is slow in my portfolio, then there is another business to complement it to grow and this phenomenon will continue. This year I am looking at a growth of 30 per cent. But consistently I am clocking and looking at a 20 per cent y-o-y growth,” he says. As a group, Bloom Electronics is present in India, Middle East, Australia, Africa, UK, US and APAC.
