“As we approach our 50th anniversary at the end of 2024, I am pleased that Deakin’s progress and leadership continue to be recognised on a global stage. Rankings never tell the whole story but are an essential guide, and our progress shows we are on the right track,” Professor Martin said. He further said, “What we do matters to our students, our local communities, and Australia. And through our extensive community, industry and academic networks, what we do matters internationally. “I acknowledge that so much of what has been achieved is the result of the efforts of many across our university. We have made extraordinary progress in our comparatively short life and remain focused on driving a culture of innovation, creativity and excellence while staying true to our founding values of inclusion and access to education,” he added.
Some of the recent highlights for Deakin include becoming number one in Victoria for Overall Student Satisfaction and has been for 13 years, and one of the top universities in Australia on this measure; becoming the first university in the world to establish an international branch campus in India; being announced as a Trailblazer University to deliver the Deakin University Recycling and Clean Energy Commercialisation Hub (REACH). The University has seen a significant uplift in research income and impact to drive social progress. It has established the Deakin Indigenous Strategy 2023-2028 as a university-wide strategy. The University has founded the Damion Drapac Centre to advance socially inclusive medical education. It has also implemented the Deakin Reimagined program to underpin Deakin’s recovery from the pandemic.
