Bengalis get together to celebrate Durga Puja

The Bengali Association of Western Australia (BAWA) celebrated the Spring Festival and Durga Puja recently. This Hindu festival is the largest celebration of the Bengali diaspora worldwide. The

Bengali Association of Western Australia has been successfully organising it in Western Australia for the past 30 years. In this celebration, over three days the community gets together for community food, puja, and family activities. Meredith Hammat MLA, parliament of WA joined the Bengali community for the Durga Puja festivities recently, representing the premier, Roger Cook.

BAWA is a registered non-profit cultural association of the Bengalis living in Perth and other parts of Western Australia. The Association began its journey in the 1980s when a couple of migrant families gathered together to establish BAWA. It has been welcoming new people in, fostering its integration into the wider West Australian community, cherishing the ethnic heritage, and contributing in its own way to build a multicultural Western Australia. BAWA with its rich heritage is at the forefront in Western Australia to showcase Bengali culture and traditions. In Queensland, the Bengali Society of Queensland celebrated the triumph of good over evil at Sree Sree Durga puja celebration recently at the Coorparoo Secondary College.
