Time has flown by again this year! It’s been a busy time for us at Indigo and to say we’ve been excited to share our latest interior trends with you this season would be an understatement. From the stunning bold, colour blocking Forest Glen (Page 4) and monochromatic Tribal Zen (Page 14) to the soft, feminine aesthetic of Gold Dusk (Page 40). We’ve all fallen in love with the rich colour palettes, luxe materials and sophisticated Fall / Winter 2019 looks.

We are also pleased to announce on our 40 year anniversary that Indigo has partnered with SONDER LIVING to create SONDER LIVING at INDIGO (Page 32) in both Hong Kong and Dubai. The collaboration brings a house of high end designers and new pieces to the Indigo portfolio. Furthermore, in keeping with our design philosophy, we have also relaunched the INDIGO DESIGN STUDIO which will offer a new suite of affordable interior design and styling services to our customers around the world.

FOREST GLEN

Lush materials and rich woodland colours of tempting teals and hues of deep greens with a splash of delectable mustard yellow collide in a contemporary, cosy yet eye-catching look that brings the outdoors in. Terrazzo Time

You may remember terrazzo from the 70’s but it’s exploded back onto the interior design scene in a big, bold way and you’ll be seeing it everywhere from decorative terrazzo floor tiles, tables and lamps to wallpapers, ornaments and prints.

WHAT IS TERRAZZO?

Originating in Italy over 500 years ago terrazzo was typically used as flooring in Venetian homes. It’s essentially a composite material comprising of marble chippings that were traditionally set in concrete and was seen as a way to reuse scrapped rock. Once the fragments and chippings are set, the surface is then polished to create a smooth, durable, often matte surface.

THE RESULT?

An intricate and interesting material comprising of unique patterns that deliver an aesthetic punch. These days the durable, speckled material comes in a variety of materials and colours from the fun and vibrant to the more subtle and muted making it exceptionally versatile and easy to incorporate into a host of interior looks.

40TH ANNIVERSARY CERAMIC STOOL ARTIST SHOWCASE

To celebrate our 40th anniversary, Indigo Living have teamed up with The Sovereign Art Foundation to commission 5 Hong Kong artists to customize a one-off, hand painted ceramic stool. The 5 artwork pieces will be auctioned off online in October 2019. 1 of the 5 pieces will also be selected for a limited edition production run and will be available throughout Indigo Living stores. All funds raised from both the auction and limited edition run will go to providing expressive-arts workshops for underprivileged children across Hong Kong and Asia Pacific. Here’s a glimpse of a few of the stunning creations commissioned so far.

Dreamun-apportioned

Pirate aka Tanya Bennett is an avid trail runner, and spends a large portion of her spare time in the mountains of Hong Kong surrounded by nature. It is in these poetic landscapes that she’s most inspired, and so with her piece she wanted to weave together snippets from her adventures into an ethereal, dreamlike tableau. She used an acrylic paint pour technique to mimic the waterfalls that she loves so much, followed by hand painting and a gold leaf application.

ANJALIKA YBEMA H香NG K港NG

This piece aims to highlight one of the most renowned sights in the world; The Hong Kong skyline. The distorted lines combined with the imperfect geometric shapes give the work an almost surrealist feel, a sharp yet distorted style inspired by Hong Kong’s vibrant street art. By featuring the contemporary buildings that can be recognised by a simple silhouette alongside Hong Kong’s iconic red junk, a contrast between the urban and traditional sides of Hong Kong is effectively established.

ELEANOR Prospero

A modern bright coloured stool inspired by images and references found in traditional Chinese porcelain. The seat is a simple abstract pattern featuring the silhouettes of 5 bats. Five bats joined together signifies 5 blessings: Health, Prosperity, Love, Long Life and a Peaceful Death.

The rice bowls filled with golden rice represent abundance and they circle the stool at the top and the bottom. There is also a traditional coin with a square hole in the centre on each bowl.

THE SOVEREIGN ART FOUNDATION

“The Sovereign Art Foundation is proud to partner with Indigo Living on the occasion of their 40th Anniversary by showcasing the work of local creatives, each of whom have been tasked with transforming a classic ceramic Chinese ‘drum’ stool into a unique and collectable art piece”.

The Sovereign Art Foundation (SAF) is a charity founded in 2003 in Hong Kong and now also registered in Guernsey, Malta, Singapore, South Africa and the UK. SAF annually runs The Sovereign Asian Art Prize with the purpose of raising money to help disadvantaged children. Since its inception, SAF has raised over US$9 million for charities and artists worldwide; funding projects using art as education, rehabilitation and therapy. www.SovereignArtFoundation.com

ABOUT PIRATE aka Tanya Bennett

Since graduating with a degree in Clothing Design and Manufacturing, specialising in Illustration and fashion advertising, Tanya has been in the field of Art, Design, and marketing for over a decade.

Moving from the UK to China in 2007 and then Hong Kong in 2009, Tanya (aka Pirate), has interacted with a huge variety of multi-national companies, each one requiring their own bespoke response to an inherently creative brief.

ABOUT ANJALIKA Ybema

Anjalika is a 17-year-old art student and and was shortlisted for The Sovereign Art Foundation Students' Prize in 2018. Having lived in Hong Kong her whole life she’s grown up exposed to a variety of different cultures and perspectives. She typically paints using acrylics or watercolour paints and also enjoys creating digital illustrations.

Birds and bamboo are depicted on the main area, which are often seen in Chinese paintings. The Bamboo leaves are filled with patterns from Hong Kong buildings so that Eleanor could weave a bit of HK into the imagery. The bamboo has three shoots which symbolise happiness, wealth and long life. Lastly, yellow was chosen as it is an imperial colour denoting power, royalty and prosperity.

ABOUT ELEANOR McColl

Eleanor McColl is a multi-disciplinary artist, based in Hong Kong. McColl's work is rooted in place with a focus on the urban environment. Her work draws the eye to the often unnoticed details of the city. Through manipulation of focus, she explores the delicate points of contact in the otherwise ceaseless blur of the everyday anonymous citizen. Drawn to the dramatic palate of dilapidation, refurbishment and renewal, her cityscapes explore the interface between Hong Kong's unique verticality and it's impact on its people.

The average height of a table is 76cm and the standard seat height is 46cm. In order for you and your guests to sit comfortably the recommended gap between the seat and the bottom of the tabletop is at least 30.5cm. If you opt for a dining chair with an arm then leave 18cm of space from the top of the arm to the bottom of the tabletop.

The average width of a dining chair is 51cm so, our team of stylists suggest estimating 60cm per chair to allow a comfortable amount of space on either side.

SHAPE

When selecting your centerpiece, the piece de resistance –your dining table – take into consideration the shape and size of the room.

For smaller spaces and in particular square shaped rooms, opt for a round or oval table. They provide a little extra leg room, can often fit more around the table, and are perfect for socialising around.

Looking for something a bit more traditional? You can’t go wrong with the rectangular table. Narrower rectangular tables are always welcoming and warm while those slightly wider ones create a more classic and formal aesthetic to your dining area.

Extendable dining table options can transform and save you space. They’re versatile and flexible and allow you to fit more people comfortably around your dining area when you are entertaining or hosting parties.

"Our favourite dining chair style is the upholstered chair which suits nearly all décor styles. Simple, clean lines with fully upholstered, comfortable seats can come in linen, leather, fabric, patterns, buttoned or even tufted. So whether it’s traditional or contemporary you’re after, there is undoubtedly something to suit your style."

For a more formal and classic look opt for a higher backed chair in a button or tufted upholstered option or even a chair with arms. Metallic detailing and darker colours can also enhance the drama and glamour in your room.

An upholstered and light linen or fabric with contrasting legs projects a more contemporary modern look into your space.

MEMPHIS LIGHT

Light and dark collide and complement in this contemporary yet classic Scandi inspired bookshelf. ! TIPS : RUGS BY ROOM

Not sure how to place a rug in your space?

LIVING ROOM

Large living rooms and space should opt for all furniture on the rug with a 1 inch space from the wall and rug. Alternatively if some furniture is against the wall aim to have your furniture’s front 2 legs on the rug Your third option, which works great in smaller spaces, is to just centre the rug under your coffee table.

BEDROOM

When it comes to placing your rug under your bed ensure it extends 90 cm all around your bed. Alternatively place 2 smaller runners on either side or 1 at the foot of the bed.

DINING ROOM

Your table and chairs should all rest on the rug. Remember you need 60cm extending beyond each side of the table to prevent chairs from going off the rug when pushed back. Match the shape of your rug to the shape of your dining table.
