Station Types

Eglinton Crosstown the corridor Avenue

Avenue Station will be an underground station located at the intersection of Avenue Road and Eglinton Avenue West. The station will also be a turnback station and will have special trackwork for ECLRT operations. A turnback station allows trains to change directions, while the special trackwork allows a train to be stored between the tracks and not disrupt service. There will be two entrances – the main, fully accessible entrance at the northwest corner of Avenue Road and Eglinton Avenue, and the secondary entrance at the north side of Eglinton between Avenue Road and Oriole Parkway. Retail spaces will be located at street level at both the main and secondary entrances. At this location, there will be on-street connections to TTC buses. There will be 50 outdoor bicycle parking spaces.

Consultant Team: Lea Consulting, Halsall, Adamson Architects, HH Angus, Pivotal Projects

Eglinton Station The Eglinton Crosstown station will be underground, serving as an interchange station that connects to the TTC Yonge subway line. As an interchange station, Eglinton will be one of the busiest.

Kennedy

Kennedy Station will be the terminal station at the eastern end of the LRT line, and will also serve as an interchange station since it connects directly with the TTC Bloor-Danforth subway line. It is located at Transway Crescent and Eglinton Avenue East, approximately 300 metres east of Kennedy Road. Kennedy Station is yet another station along the LRT line that will serve as a Mobility Hub. The station will include connections to: the GO Transit Stouffville Line, the TTC Scarborough RT, the TTC Bloor-Danforth subway, and a TTC bus terminal. The four existing TTC commuter parking lots will be reconfigured, the existing TTC PPUDO will remain, and a GO Transit PPUDO will be added.

At this location, there will be four entrances – the most of all the stations along the LRT line. The main entrance will be located at the southwest corner of Eglinton Avenue and Transway Crescent. The secondary entrance will be Integrated with the new GO Transit ticketing building. The third will be at the existing TTC south entrance, while the fourth will be the existing GO Transit south entrance. All the entrances will be accessible. There will be station plazas outside all but the fourth station entrance. Retail spaces will be located on the concourse level, within both the fare-paid and non-fare paid zones. There will be 40 outdoor and 80 indoor bicycle parking spaces.

Downtown relief Line The Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study (DTRES) was completed by the TTC in 2012 to address existing capacity constraints on the existing Yonge subway and GO Transit lines. The study projected that significant capacity issues would remain by 2031, even with planned improvements on both networks. The report identified four alternative Downtown Relief Line configurations that involved a line between Pape and St. Andrew, with varying extensions north to Don Mills at Eglinton, and west to Dundas West station. The TTC's 2015 DRL study identified four potential corridors, which involve combinations of originating on Line 2 at Broadview or Pape, and going through downtown via King or Queen Streets. Metrolinx has also been studying the DRL in parallel with the TTC. In 2012, it completed the Relief Line Preliminary Benefits Case Analysis, a study of alternatives to relieve congestion on the Yonge line and on the Lakeshore and Barrie GO lines. Two main options were carried forward, one of which involved a DRL that would operate to GO Transit's Bathurst North yard. The other option considered a tunnel for Lakeshore East and West trains to a second Union Station.

Metrolinx, the City of Toronto, York Region and the TTC also partnered on the Yonge Relief Network Study (YRNS) in 2015. This was a more detailed benefits case analysis that examined three different options for providing relief on the Yonge line Option 1: RER Plus Network, providing enhanced service on GO Transit's Richmond Hill and Stouffville lines. Option 2: Relief Line, a fully grade separated subway line Option 2A: Relief Line Short, between Danforth and Downtown Option 2B: Relief Line Long, between Sheppard and Downtown Option 2C: Relief Line U, between Danforth and Bloor, via Downtown Option 3: Surface LRT, between Sheppard and Downtown The YRNS found that Option 2B (Relief Line Long) would provide the most effective relief on the Yonge line. This is despite the proposed rapid transit improvements in The Big Move, which had called for the DRL to terminate at Danforth Avenue, and for the connecting Don Mills LRT to continue north to Sheppard and Highway 7
