India Duncan Jan. 30, 2013 The writer of, The covers are dead, voice his opinion of how the book cover is disappearing. To support this claim, he questions whether this disappearance may have something to do with its text going digital. The problem with text being transferred to the digital is that most individuals prized books for their covers, next its text. The text is transferred digitally, and not exactly the book cover, or its design. It was explained that on a kindle, the book cover appears as a small icon- so small the design barely visible. What I also interpreted from this writing, is that since text is going digital and digital reads are becoming more popular, authors, or designers should treat the text with as much importance as the design of the book cover.- Too much attention has been place towards the design of a book. The author mentioned that the design of the book cover became important even more important and elaborate then its text because there has always been competition in the book market. So, with the world being introduced with digital text, the audience attention switched to the text, but more so to the digital aspect. Technology is selling because it gets us into the books quickly. And this suits the public of today because we want everything done fast ever since being introduced to technology. The cover is being lost because it is no longer a factor. We instead choose books based on their ratings that we find from digital resources. So, authors should think about the entire book design as it were a cover because books are now in the digital form, and there covers are not the focus at this time and age.

The Photo book will Rise Again The independently published photo book is flourishing. The idea of having a website where books can be sold, which helps to save the author money because like it was said, most of the public are not buying photo books in mass orders. Printing fees are being saved. I am not sure about how many copies of photo books are being sold, so I cannot comment on this issue, and the question of whether it is better to publish a work independently or the traditional way.
