TLC APPEAL IRELAND Launched in 2013 by Irish Freemasons, Teddies f or Loving Care is a Charity for the benefit of distressed sick children, attending Emergency Departments in Hospitals throughout the entire country. Funds are donated by Irish Freemasons to purchase Teddy Bears. These are provided to Hospital Emergency Departments, so that medical/ nursing staff can distribute them, at their discretion, to children who are admitted in severe distress and where the staff member feels that a Teddy to cuddle will help alleviate the stress and assist them in their important work. The project was rolled out in Dublin in July 2013 and very quickly spread throughout the whole of Ireland and is being received with great enthusiasm.
SOME RECENT COMMENTS FROM OUR BENEFICIARIES My son had to be taken to the Emergency Department on my wedding day after cutting his face open. He was given one of your teddies for being a brave soldier by the nurse who looked after him. My son has never taken to a teddy or any other cuddly toy however "teddy" now has to go everywhere with him. Because they are so attached to each other. I'm worried about losing it so the two reasons for my email are to say a big thank you for the teddy and also to see if it's at all possible to purchase another one or two? I look forward to your response.

We ended up in the Emergency Department on Friday evening with our four year old, who had gashed his head on a wall. One of the nurses brought out a teddy with a big plaster on his head for our son to look after. 'Sunny' as he is now called, hasn't left Aran's side since and helped calm him down immensely. We are very grateful for such a small, yet significant idea and would like to make a small donation to your appeal. Regards follow U<; on

A TEDDIES FOR LOVING CARE STORY? I am a young child. Something is wrong with me. I am ill, or I've had an accident. It hurts, and I don't know what's wrong. Mum and Dad seem worried, that worries me I am taken to Hospital- the Emergency Unit I don't understand what is happening There are strange people- in uniforms & coats With all kinds of frightening needles and instruments. I am still in pain, but now I'm very scared! I don't want them to touch me-路 will hurt I am scared at what they are going to do I cry - I scream - I struggle. Everyone says they just want to make me better But it's so scary- they always say it won't hurt. But one of them has a teddy They give it me to cuddle They tell me what they need to do They show me what they are going to do on teddy Teddy doesn't cry It didn't seem to hurt him If it didn't hurt teddy, it won't hurt me I cuddle teddy very hard It doesn't hurt as much They say I am very brave As brave as teddy They say I am going to get better They say I can go home Mum & Dad are smiling The Nurse says I can take teddy I am smiling!
