PORTUGAL AND TOURISM Leading Destination
Winner in the 2018 World Travel Awards Despite its fairly small size, Portugal has made a big impact on the world of tourism. After all, it’s a country of idyllic beaches and exotic islands, friendly locals and an inviting culture, spa resorts and historic hotels, mouthwatering gastronomy, world-renowned wine, and so much more. European Best Destinations has listed Portuguese beaches among their top choices for the last few years, and this year’s winner is the Algarve’s scenic resort town of Carvoeiro. The country’s most recent big win (or wins, depending on how you want to look at it) came at this year’s World Travel Awards. Not only was Portugal named Europe’s Leading Destination, but the Madeira Islands won the award for Europe’s Leading Island Destination, and Lisbon was named Europe’s Leading City Destination.
Despite its reputation as a budget-friendly destination (which it is), Portugal is also a country for luxury-seekers and has rapidly grown to be one of the worlds top destinations for worlds jet set society.

BLUE PALACE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Praça da Alegria, 8 1250-096 Lisboa
Blue Palace as it was called back when it was built by D. Álvaro Xavier Botelho, in 1798, is an unusual building in Lisbon's palatial panorama. Unusual because of it´s dimension given by the design of its facade, which presents the ends cut in chamfer. With the particularity of these chamfers to be concave. Thus creating a lively rhythm in the definition of the façade, reentrant wedges, as the municipal engineer João Pedro Pezerat calls them in 1864. Another striking feature is the permanence of the same color on the façades, probably original, in blue, perhaps originally more vivid blue, as appears from the appreciation of the painting next to Nicolas Delerive, painted after 1809, a few years after the beginning of the works, in 1798. Painting of great interest, as it depicts the animation of the Feira da Ladra, which was then held in the new Praça da Alegria, born of the changes arising from the surrounding area of the Public Walk project. Nicolas Delerive – “Feira da Ladra” in Praça da Alegria (1809-1818).
BLUE PALACE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Praça da Alegria, 8 1250-096 Lisboa This unusual character is also present in the interior scheme of the building. In fact, after a long, narrow vestibule, the main staircase emerges, which, unexpectedly, gauges to the noble floor, in a single haul, ending in the façade of Tardoz, from where it receives illumination through a window. Being the main rooms facing Alegria Square, the connection between the staircase and these noble rooms was quite complex, which is still accentuated by the pronounced width of the building, between Praça da Alegria and Rua da Conceição da Glória, which leads to the existence of several intermediate dependencies devoid of light sources. It originally had two interior courtyards, on either side of the central staircase, of course being of small dimensions, merely illuminating halls. Nothing can be perceived from the current reading, since, in
Ground Floor Plant
fact, the building underwent profound changes in its interior spaces. In the current floor plan of the noble floor there is noticeable confusion in the division, the great hall having subdivided later (see plant). Taking advantage of the slope on the Street of the conceição da Glória, the building presents two more floors in this facade, destined to stables and other service dependencies. In the most easterly part of this façade of Tardoz, there is a differentiated body, with some lag in the floors in relation to the remaining building, which supports a vast terrace, decorated with stone vases, and under it a large hall which carried the colors of blue, that is in all of its construction.

BLUE PALACE INTERIOR DESIGN CONTEST BRIEF The Blue Palace Hotel will be a 6 * quality high end end boutique hotel, catering for high end customers all year around. The feeling of luxury will never surpass the one of elegance, sophistication and cosiness, never heavy or pretentious. In brief, pure quality. It should feel like a home away from home. The hotel is to be part of the city and will attract both locals and clients from other hotels, for its unique F&B facilities and outlets. It will offer a 3* Michelin restaurant with Chef Juan Amador. Michelin * quality will be present, from the bakery and desert bar, to the casual and gourmet restaurant. Both live music and art will be integrated in the concept direction taking advantage of the nearby legendary Hot Club and Parque Mayer. More than a place to stay it will be a place to be. According to the Michelin Guide, 1 * Michelin stands for a very good restaurant, 2 ** Michelin are excellent cooking that are worth a detour, 3 *** Michelin means exceptional cuisine at a worth of a special journey. The restaurant is the destination on itself. The look and feel of the Boutique Hotel will be designed in line within a classical timeless direction. Human warmth against industrial feeling, Portuguese elements on a universal context to bring Lisbon and Portugal organically into the building is our driving force for the design of this spectacular hotel. It is about feeling connected to the heritage of the building, the values of Lisbon, but at the same time giving into the spirit of modernity. We would like to imagine as if Dona Maria I (Our Portuguese Marie Antoinette) where living here today in our Modern times and choosing her Palace interiors. It is important to take risks and create tension between the old and the new but always respecting the local history and traditions. The hotel sĚ new personality will be defined by all its major public, semi public areas and private areas which are integrated in a total area of 3.180m2 of internal decorative areas. Our expected cost for the project, taking into consideration the level of detail and superior 6* quality required for such a distinctive hotel varies depending if we use original or reproduction pieces, branded and unbranded items. Our expected Cost with all branded and top luxury materials items is â‚Ź10,500,000 to which we can reduce the cost by circa 40% using reproductions and lower quality materials with similar looks, depending on the areas. We can also work anywhere in between the expected and reduced cost by strategically placing branded items and higher quality materials in key spaces.

*** STAR MICHELIN Juan Amador Juan Amador was born in 1968 in the Swabian town of Strümpfelbach as the son of Spanish guest workers. After training with Walter Hofmann in the Gasthof Lamm in Strümpfelbach and two other appointments at the Hotel Alter Wirt in Grünwald near Munich and Schlosshotel Bühlerhöhe, Schwarzwaldhochstraße, he moved in 1990 to the Waldhorn in Ravensburg to Albert Bouley and became sous chef. 1993 he became chef in the restaurant parsley in Lüdenscheid, which has been awarded a Michelin star. In 1997 he moved to the restaurant Fährhaus Munkmarsch on Sylt (one Michelin star). The castle hotel Die Weyberhöfe near Aschaffenburg received another star in 2000, followed in 2002 by the second Michelin star. In February 2004 he opened his own restaurant Amador in Langen near Frankfurt am Main. Since the Michelin Guide 2008, it has been awarded three Michelin stars.
