Open Air Festival presentation

A word from the upcoming and growing festivals in the world, insight in conducting their own profile and artistic decisions to enforce this growth. What choices do you make as a festival? What are the USP’s and how do you connect to your audience?

Metal in the Metaverse

The Metaverse is a digital environment that has recently been gaining traction, but what is it really? Is it simply big tech's ploy to gain access to more user data and sell it to advertisers, or is it an innovative space that has potential benefits for bands, musicians, and their fans?

The second wave: the influence of Masacre (CO)

After 30 years, Masacre might be the most solid Colombian death metal band around. During the early days of extreme metal, the music was chaotic and destructive. Many bands took it upon themselves to do everything in their power to deviate from all other genres.

Mutilated Tyrant: a conversation about the Navajo black metal scene

Interview with Navajo band Mutilated Tyrant. Mod: Harald Fossberg (NO)

Gripped by the Soul of Spiritual Awakening

– a presentation about black metal from the Low Countries

How do divergent uses of black metal aesthetics and cultural narratives differ between Norwegian and Dutch-speaking Low Countries bands, and in what ways do these uses have different outcomes and meanings?

Greener Touring II: merchandise

Touring sustainably is a goal for many bands, but one of the main challenges lies in distributing merchandise in an eco-friendly manner. But just how can bands and festivals promote themselves in a way that is kind to the environment? What measures need to be taken to make sure that merchandise is distributed with the least possible impact on the environment?

Presales – what are we going to do about it?

The pressure point of 2022, the change of average ticket sales in specific markets. We are all wondering what the reason for this could be and for some, this is a challenge that needs to be solved.

Passion & Burnout

When searching online for how to prevent a burnout, the first thing you will find is to bring more passion into your work. Working in the music business, Hilde Spille sees that most people work with passion, but many of them end up getting a burnout.

Career Talk: Sakis Tolis

Athanasios "Sakis" Tolis, a.k.a. Necromayhem, is best known as guitarist/vocalist for the Greek band Rotting Christ. Reading this, you would say, busy enough with this band. Yet, the opposite is true. Although Sakis is one of the founding members of Rotting Christ, together with his brother, he found the time to record solo material.

Fan commitment within digital music consumption

With the developments in distributing digital music, the ways how fans show their commitment to a band are more and more broadly based between the physical and the digital world. How do we still reach the people in a more personal matter and create long lasting fan relationships?

Open air festivals about climate change

Being outside in a 20th century summer season will bring challenges in all possible ways. Protect yourself against the sun, but also against heavy rain and following mud. How do open air festivals deal with maybe 3 or sometimes 4 seasons of weather in a single 4-day edition of a heavy metal festival?

Boutique Indoor Festivals

– the new tendency?

Indoor boutique festivals. A new trend, or not? What’s the buzz? And is it even worthwhile to run an indoor event like that?

What are the pros and cons? Challenges and opportunities?
