You want to set new goals and make changes, but the demands of everyday life keep you firmly planted on the same path. AVOID EXTENDING THE DEADLINE
PLAN BETTER W R I T T E N BY William Jackson
ou may want to rethink extending the
Y
deadline. It’s a relief to be “given” more time; however, we seldom wisely use extensions.
The usual result is we lose
motivation, procrastinate, and in the end
are faced with the same situation - just later. The culprit is most likely poor advanced planning.
Address poor
planning with these few suggestions: D E V E LO P R E A L I ST I C A N D M E A S U R A B L E G OA L S .
This will keep motivation, as well as morale, high and keep pressure on procrastinators. Enact interim deadlines by breaking a larger objective up into measurable mini targets spaced out strategically in time. These deadlines need to be meaningful. If it’s no big deal to miss the deadline then it’s not a real deadline. BE REALISTIC WITH TIMING.
Review how long it’s taken to complete similar projects in the past and try to identify potential road blocks which may prevent processes from progressing as planned. During the planning process, break the project down in detail, estimating the time needed to complete each milestone and allowing for snafus in your schedule.
