WEDDING BUDGET 101

“What’s your budget?” It’s one of the first questions your vendors will ask as you set up consultations.

Why It’s Important

According to a recent poll, only 9% of couples didn’t pay for any part of their wedding. The remaining 91% need a financial plan to help govern decision making when choosing the best fit for wedding vendors. Creating a spending plan at the start of the wedding planning process saves you time because it helps to narrow your focus to the vendors whose prices fall within your spending range. It also saves you the heartache of falling in love with a product or service provider that you really cannot afford. Now, let’s get to the math.

The Perfect Formula

FC + CC = MS x 75% = WB!

STEP 1:

Determine your family contribution (FC).

Sometimes, parents or other family members offer to pay for a specific service like the cake, photography, or music. It is certainly helpful to have loved ones make a financial commitment to assist with your big day; however, they may not have a current idea of the cost of the service. Therefore, it’s recommended that you ask them to tell you the specific dollar amount that they would like to contribute and when you can expect to receive it.

STEP 2:

Calculate the couple’s contribution (CC).

What you and your fiancé have saved specifically for the wedding is the basis for the “couple’s contribution.” If you don’t have a dedicated savings, you can still have the wedding of your dreams -

you just need more time to realize that dream. Take your after-tax income and subtract all the bills and personal expenses that you have in a month. The cash that you have left can be added to wedding savings. Add this amount for the number of months that remain before your target wedding date, and now you have your couple’s contribution.

STEP 3:

Add the family contribution to the couple contribution to determine the maximum spend (FC + CC = MS).

This is the maximum amount that you will have available to spend on your wedding. There are always unexpected items that come up, especially if you don’t partner with a professional wedding planner who can advise you of the things that your detailed budget may be missing. It’s important to take one more step to determine your wedding budget.

STEP 4:

Reduce the maximum spend by 25% (MS x .75 = WB!)

Reducing the maximum spend amount ensures that you will not overspend even when you pick-up last-minute items just days before your wedding. Now you have your wedding budget!

A wedding content creator captures your wedding day using a phone, from the first look to the sweet in-between moments including all the BTS and details. The goal: deliver hundreds of clips, photos, and edited reels in a highlight video so you and your new spouse can relive each one together forever. Typically, these are delivered within 24 hours after the wedding day. Whether one intends to share their wedding on social media or wants to relive their big day on video, a wedding content creator can help preserve every moment.

Why are couples hiring a wedding content creator?

To have someone capture with video wedding day footage.

They desire an unplugged wedding day surrounded by fully present loved ones with peace of mind that the all the special moments will be captured.

To see footage of their wedding the day after.

To get ready-to-post content (like a highlight reel) for social media pages.

They want candid, un-staged BTS moments.

· To see footage of the things often missed during wedding days, such as cocktail hour or time in the bride and groom suites.

Your wedding day flies by, and with a scheduled timeline of events, it's easy to miss the details and moments that are so special. A wedding content creator can record your entire first dance to the sweet, candid conversation with your groom after saying "I Do." In addition to the more significant moments, the aim is to capture the little ones too that will bring you back to the exact way you felt on your wedding day. These are the most treasured, sacred moments in your life, and it's a content creator's job to preserve them for you and future generations.

Ashley Crawford is the owner and lead shooter of Iconic Content. To learn more about how she can help capture every moment of your wedding, contact her at IconicContentEmail@gmail.com or IconicContentCreation.com.

TINY GUESTS, BIG DILEMMA: Navigating Kids at the Wedding

Planning a wedding and incorporating both the children who may take part in the ceremony and those of the guests can be fun, but also daunting. There are several ways to make sure the young ones have a good time while also maintaining a similitude of control. The adults may then also enjoy themselves while their children are involved in activities. Here are some ideas:

gifts & sweet treats

Gifts and sweets are our favorite treats! From personalized wedding favors to customizable sweet bars, to fun popsicles, these vendors are guaranteed to make a lasting impression on your guests. The possibilities are endless, and we have some great ideas that will make your wedding perfectly YOU!

· KIDS TABLE: Set up a separate table with age appropriate activities such as coloring books, crayons, puzzles, and games to keep them occupied during the reception.

· HIRE A PROFESSIONAL CHILDCARE SERVICE:

Consider hiring a professional service to provide supervised activities and games during the wedding as well as the reception. Parents can relax and enjoy the festivities while knowing their children are well taken care of.

· KIDS MENU: The food selected for your guests may be scrumptious, but for children, (who can be a little finicky), you may want to rethink their menu. Offer a different menu at a separate table with child-friendly foods such as chicken tenders, mac and cheese, mini burgers, and

pizza. They will not only be well fed, but happy. Also, skip the wedding cake and provide mini cupcakes instead.

· OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: If the wedding is outside, set up outdoor activities such as bouncy houses, scavenger hunts, mini golf, bean bag toss, and giant Jenga and Connect Four. Also, a well-managed s’mores bar can be incorporated.

· DANCING, MUSIC, AND ENTERTAINMENT:

Children like to dance. Consider asking the DJ to incorporate upbeat music that the kids can dance to. You may also hire a clown, balloon artist, or face painter to keep them occupied.

· PHOTO BOOTH: Set up a photo booth with props for kids to take pictures. This creates memories that will last a lifetime.

The Euresti Co.

· GOODIE BAGS: Prepare goodie bags with small toys, games, and treats. This is a great way to thank the children who are taking part in your wedding, as well as fun for those who are in attendance.

You can ensure that the children will have a great, fun-filled time while also allowing their parents and all of the adults to enjoy your most memorable and beautiful day!

Our wide variety of allnatural flavors is perfect for any festivity.

Planning a wedding is an exciting journey filled with dreams of love and lifelong commitment. However, turning those dreams into reality often comes with a hefty price tag. As you embark on the path to matrimony, the question of how to manage wedding expenses can loom large. In this article, we'll explore invaluable budget tips ensuring that your special day is as magical as you've envisioned, without breaking the bank.

It is advised to set your budget at 75% of the maximum amount available to spend. Inevitably, there are details that are excluded from the planning and therefore the budget. Setting aside a small reserve ensures that there is enough money to cover all the costs of the wedding and reduces stress. These are some of the most common items that couples forget to include.

The Marriage License

Yes, you must pay for that! The cost of a marriage license in Virginia varies by county. Expect to pay between $30 - $35 and be sure to note the forms of payment that are accepted at the county office. This is a small, but often overlooked cost.

Undergarments

You’ve included the cost of your attire, alterations, and accessories. Don’t ruin the look by failing to have the proper support (or socks)!

Postage

Wedding invitations printed on lovely, weighted stock with multiple pages will require more than the standard postage. Formal invitations should include a response card with postage attached to save guests the trouble of having to find a stamp and risk receiving the response

The Sneaky Six

Don’t forget to include these things in your budget.

after your deadline or not at all. Ask your stationer how much postage is required and take one complete invitation suite to the post office to confirm the cost.

Lodging

Planning to stay in a hotel the night before the wedding? Want to keep the hotel room until you leave for your honeymoon on Tuesday? Great! Plan for those extra room nights in your budget.

Wedding Day Meals

You’ve asked wedding attendants to join you six hours prior to the start of the wedding so you can get ready together. Feed them! It’s going to be a long day and you’ll need some energy to get through it. Additionally, make provisions for wedding vendors that will be with you more than four hours (i.e., the band/DJ, coordinator, photographer, videographer).

Gratuities

Remember you are paying for services. Gratuity should not be expected by any vendors. However, if a vendor goes above and beyond your expectations and the agreed upon services, add an additional 10 – 20%. The DJ, MC, band members, makeup artist, manicurist, stylist, photographer, videographer, and wedding planner/coordinator do not typically have gratuity included in their service cost.

The harmonization of new and old, perfectly coming together into a venue unlike any other.

When an engaged couple tours Main Street Station, it’s usually the same process. They come in curious to see the venue, then once they see the gorgeous bare bones and unique city feel, their jaws drop, and they can picture their wedding vision immediately.

It’s the middle of wedding season and the Richmond Weddings® Team is sitting with Crystal Lowery, Events Manager at Main Street Station, the woman responsible for helping make city nuptial dreams come true. If you haven’t seen The Shed of Main Street Station before, prepare to be wowed. Trains silently breeze by the glass box and are the perfect complement to the unique industrial feel. The concrete floors reflect the recessed lights above and give a dull reflection of the absolutely breathtaking ceiling. Exposed metal beams, the only thing left from the original building, harmonize with new wooden ones, creating that perfect balance of new and old.

Alluding to the jaw drops of touring couples, Crystal explains, “The space really has that effect!” Bring in an experienced wedding planner, and it will transform into whatever vision you’ve dreamed of.

The train shed, roughly the length of two football fields, can turn your wedding into a set of experiences. Break up the length with beautiful drapes, opening a section for each part of your celebration, and let your guests begin their journey. Start with your ceremony at the front, then open the drapes to beautiful tall tables and bar for your cocktail hour. Continue to your seated reception, eventually ending at the back of The Shed with your band and dance floor. Dance the night away with your closest family and friends with the Richmond city lights as your backdrop.

While The Shed of Main Street Station is obviously impressive, it’s the Head House, an event space at the front of the building that hosts most of their weddings. The Head House, which can accommodate up to 200 guests, is where you feel Main Street Station’s history. The Renaissance architecture from 1901 transports you to an older time in Richmond’s history. With two side rooms furnished with plush couches and chairs, custom hand painted ceilings, one gets that old city feel when climbing the stairs to the event space. Encased on the outside with brick, the Head House is superbly intimate, and just like the expansive train shed, can be transformed into anything you’d like. Crystal explains, “We had one wedding have their ceremony in the Head House, and then everyone came down to the lower level for the cocktail hour as the catering company switched the room over into a beautiful reception.” A quaint and almost secretive balcony sits adjacent to the room, the perfect escape for you and your guests to get that breath of fresh air while looking over Main Street.

Main Street Station, in all its parts, is beautiful on its own. You don’t really need too much decor; the space speaks for itself. Completely unique and unlike any other spot on the East Coast, you can create your wedding vision. From the highway, your guests will be impressed. The glass shed and original clock tower standing tall against the backdrop of Shockoe Bottom.

The clock tower was the palate for the entire building and made an appearance on national television in 2018. When Richmond was named one of the cities in season 14 of ABC’s The Bachelorette, the Main Street Station team knew the lucky couple had to come to

The Station. The couple had their date in the empty train shed and then sealed the deal with a kiss on the top of the clock tower.

Large floor to ceiling windows let in beams of light, giving you the feeling of being outside, without having to worry about the weather. Since the entire train station is climate controlled, it doesn’t matter if you’re getting married on a snowy February Saturday or the hottest day in August, your experience inside of Main Street Station will be just as spectacular.

When getting married at Main Street Station, there’s the sense of being part of an integral part of Richmond. Known as “The Grand Dame of Richmond,” Main Street Station is bringing an exquisite air to the River City. The harmonization of new and old, perfectly coming together into a venue unlike any other. Transport your guests to a wedding experience they’ve never had before without losing that sense of YOU on your big day.

Main Street Station has been a landmark in Downtown Richmond since 1901. The station offers two event spaces, perfect for any size. For more information and booking inquiries please call: (804) 646-1862 www.MainStreetStationRichmond.com 1500 E. Main Street, Richmond, VA 23219

First Five Things to Do After You Get Engaged

1. SET YOUR SPENDING PLAN. Beginning the wedding planning process with a spending plan saves you time because it helps narrow your focus to the vendors whose prices fall within your spending range. It also saves you the heartache of falling in love with a product or service provider that you really cannot afford. Be realistic about how much you’re willing to spend on your wedding and how much financial assistance your family is able to commit.

2. CHOOSE THE GUEST LIST. Consider the people who are closest to you, your partner, and your family and write their names down to get a solid estimate of the number of people that will attend the wedding. You want to be able to accommodate guests comfortably and many vendors will need to know the guest count to provide a quote for their services.

3. DECIDE THE TYPE OF VENUE. Will the ceremony be held at a church or a non-religious venue? Are you looking for an indoor or outdoor reception venue? Will the ceremony and reception be in the same location? Are you looking for a venue that is a blank canvas to transform or a venue with its own personality and themed decor? Knowing the answers to all these questions (and items 1 and 2) will direct the venue search.

4. PRIORITIZE YOUR WEDDING DATE. Look at other events or celebrations that are happening in your lives or in the general geographic vicinity and rank your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice of wedding weekend or date. The more flexibility there is with the date, the more options you have for venue and vendors.

5. HIRE A PLANNER. Choose a wedding planner or coordinator before signing any other contracts. They can help you save time, stay on budget, and savor the moment. Even if you’re just seeking assistance with direction and coordination on the wedding day, having a planner in place at the start of the process will help when making decisions. They can provide recommendations for reputable vendors, give you questions to ask to evaluate them, and help think through logistics that will become critical on the wedding day.

The Ultimate Luxury Wedding Venue for an Unforgettable Celebration

We recently took a trip to The Omni Homestead. This destination wedding resort venue is nestled in the picturesque Allegheny Mountains in the historic town of Hot Springs, Virginia. Just an easy 2.5-hour drive from Richmond, our two-night, three-day stay was one for the memory books. This 250-year-old gem recently underwent a $140 million renovation. Yes, you read that right. And believe us, no detail went unnoticed – from the meeting rooms to guest rooms, to each bit of thoughtful décor. Every element of the renovation restored the historic character that this place is known for.

As we turned onto Sam Snead Highway and rounded a curve, the grand, impressive building with meticulous grounds came into view against the backdrop of the mountains. As soon as we pulled up to the valet, we were greeted with a warm welcome. The staff's genuine friendliness was clear from the very beginning, giving us a great first impression and setting the tone for the outstanding service we enjoyed throughout our stay.

Entering the resort doors, you are immediately in the Great Hall. The space is breathtaking with high intricate ceilings held up by magnificent columns offering a grandeur that was hard to ignore. We paused for a moment to take it all in.

We arrived a little early for check-in, so we took some time to relax in one of the many seating areas offered in the Great Hall with a glass of wine. Upon check-in, we were greeted with yet another thoughtful touch—a glass of champagne.

The room itself was spacious and luxurious with a large bathroom. The view from the window was equally impressive, looking out over the front of the property and offering a glimpse of the manicured gardens and surrounding landscape.

Our first evening unfolded much like a classic rehearsal dinner or wedding welcome party, featuring a delightful meal, live music, and well-crafted cocktails. After dinner, we moved to the intimate yet spacious covered front porch by the fire tables with more live music. The homemade s’mores were a nostalgic treat, adding a sweet note to the end of an ideal day.

The next morning, Scott headed to The Cascades, one of the best mountain courses in the U.S. and frequently ranked #1 by Golfweek in their “Best Golf Courses You Can Play in Each State” list. This award-winning

championship golf course at the foothills of the mountain offers generous slopes, streams, and beautiful scenery. Your golf enthusiast guests will thank you for the opportunity.

While Scott was enjoying a day of golf, I started my day with breakfast in the Crystal Ballroom before heading to the theater for a presentation on the property by John Hess, Director of Sales and Marketing. His knowledge and passion for The Omni Homestead were evident, and it made the guided tour of the event spaces even more enjoyable. From the elegant indoor ballrooms to the spectacular outdoor venues, each space had its own unique charm and was thoughtfully designed to create unforgettable events.

The evening’s activities took us to the newest event space located on top of a hill overlooking the entire property. We were shuttled there for a cocktail hour while the sun was setting, followed by an exquisite four-course dinner and live music. The food was outstanding; each dish expertly prepared and beautifully presented. At dark, we were treated to an impressive fireworks display that lit up the night sky. The evening concluded back in the main property in a private space behind the bar, which had a speakeasy vibe with its cozy, intimate setting. We sipped on our nightcaps and indulged in an assortment of decadent desserts—a perfect end to a perfect day.

On the morning of day three before heading home, we took a shuttle to the Warm Springs Pools Bathhouse. This natural spring, noted as the first spa structure in America, offers soothing mineral waters inside a spectacularly designed octagonal building with an open roof. We left the natural springs feeling very refreshed and relaxed. We believe this should be on everyone’s to-do list after a late-night

welcome party and before starting your wedding day. It’s a great place to rejuvenate and clear your head before saying, “I do”.

On their sprawling 2,300-acre estate, The Omni Homestead offers 12 distinct venue options, each catering to a wide range of wedding styles. Whether you're envisioning a quaint elopement or a grand, lavish celebration, these exquisite spaces provide the perfect backdrop. Truly a destination wedding location, The Omni Homestead promises an unforgettable experience tailored to your every desire.

There is also no shortage of resort activities to keep you and your guests entertained. From an intimate spa treatment to a hike through the gorge, there is something for everyone at any age. A family pool and a separate one for only adults can be enjoyed year-round. Other resort activities include fly fishing, archery & axe throwing, falconry, kayaking and so much more. A full listing can be found on their website.

Although we went in the spring, this is a destination resort that is perfect no matter the season. The Omni Homestead exceeded our expectations in every way, from the impeccable service to the stunning surroundings. We left with a renewed sense of peace and serenity, already looking forward to our next visit.

THE KEYS TO A HEALTHY FOREVER AFTER

You’re engaged! As you start checking things off your list, don’t forget to prepare for the part after the wedding day called marriage…

Why are healthy marriages so important? The community is stronger when couples are fulfilled in their relationship, and children (when and if they enter the picture) are more likely to do well in school and life. Everyone hopes for happy, lifelong relationships and research shows that most people, regardless of background or economic status, eventually want to be married! In fact, around 40% of couples get engaged between Christmas and Valentine’s Day then immediately start focusing on their BIG day! Excitement takes over and the couple is off and running in a race that seems to go faster and faster until their wedding day arrives. Therefore, all new couples should pause, take note and prepare for their marriage together, not just the wedding day. Here are a few things to remember as you get ready for “I do”:

GET PRE-MARITAL COACHING

Did you know that couples who simply take an online assessment are more likely to show relationship satisfaction through their own discussions. Those who take it one step further and meet with a facilitator or coach decrease the likelihood of divorce by 30%. Your pre-marital coaching program should be fun and exciting while getting you to talk as a couple about important topics. So, as the big day approaches, be sure to take the time to make plans for your future.

BUILD IN FUN & GROW YOUR FRIENDSHIP

Couples that play together, stay together. As you are preparing for the wedding, make it exciting for both of you through the entire process. Obviously, you want that day to be fun, just remember that it is only one day. You need to be playful and proactive when it comes to keeping the friendship alive for many years to come.

MAKE IT LAST A LIFETIME

How do you prep a meal? What steps do you take before a trip? Where are you going to live after the wedding day? In other words, you make plans for everything else in life, you should do the same for the marriage. If planning a wedding takes a lot, think about how much planning the rest of your lives together will take. Discuss and set long-term goals together as a couple. Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years? When will you have children? When do you want to retire? Real life happens and you need to be able to talk about everything, be willing to share thoughts/feelings, and lean on each other when things change. You’re on the same team and the motto is now ‘We Over Me’ as you do life together.

BE PREPARED FOR WEDDING STRESS

Your wedding is one day, but marriage is a lifetime. Stress causes a lack of connection between couples and planning a wedding can bring on a lot of it. Remember to consider the big picture when making choices. Discuss with your fiancé how they may feel about the decisions that need to be made. Healthy communication is a great tool for a successful relationship. If conflict starts to arise, don’t run from it; instead stop, relax, and discuss the issue that may be causing the conflict without letting emotions take over. Make sure you understand the issue before having an emotional conversation and say something you really don’t mean.

If you are looking for even more tips on how to start your life together, talk to couples who are already married. They can offer great advice, sometimes without being asked. Finding a mentor couple is another way to gain different perspectives about being married. When you engage in conversations and a pre-marital coaching program, you will discover the playful and practical parts of being married and learn things that will impact the relationship while enjoying spending time together. If you hit a speed bump along the way, it’s okay to ask for help. Many couples wait too long before discussing important issues, taking those unresolved issues with them into their marriage. Remember, there is great value in talking through things now, learning how to communicate effectively, finding efficient strategies to handle conflict, figuring out finances, discussing intimacy/affection and knowing how you each view the roles and responsibilities in the relationship before starting your life together. By being proactive, the marriage will start strong and continue to grow ‘til death do you part.

Rebecca Blackwell, Marriage & Relationship Coach with Relationship Foundation of VA, has been working with couples for over 15 years to help strengthen marriages and relationships. Her passion for marriage and family is contagious as she so enjoys encouraging couples as they start their marriage journey, enter new stages of marriage, rare dating, or working through issues.

Do We Tip Our Wedding Vendors?

As the wedding day approaches, you may be asking yourself if it is appropriate to tip wedding vendors. After fine-tuning the budget down to the penny, tipping might not have been on the radar. For some vendors tipping is optional, some expect it, and others already have it built into their contracts.

With so much information, it can be quite confusing. While still in the planning phase, let us guide you through this process so you can adjust where you see fit. Our tipping guide will help with who, how and when.

OFFICIANT – OPTIONAL

Clergy – donation to the church and $50-100 tip if they can accept it after the ceremony

Non-clergy – $50-100 to be given after the ceremony

PLANNER – OPTIONAL

10-20% of fee or a gift at the end of the night or after the honeymoon

DELIVERY/SETUP STAFF AT THE VENUE –EXPECTED

$10+ per person

VENUE COORDINATOR (IF THERE IS ONE)

– EXPECTED (UNLESS INCLUDED IN FEE)

$100-$500

NOTE: Tipping guides found online read, “You do not need to tip a business owner”. However, something to keep in mind in Richmond, VA is that most wedding vendors ARE business owners as well as service providers. Our wonderful local wedding community is made up of small businesses. As an integral part of your most special day, tips are welcome by all. What better way to say how much you appreciate them?

CATERER (IF OUTSIDE COMPANY)

$100 each person OR set total amount to be split amongst servers/bartenders

CATERING (IF PART OF THE VENUE/ RESTAURANT)

Usually built into invoice. Service charge is NOT gratuity.

WAITSTAFF

$15-$30+ per person

HAVE a plan:

Assign someone to distribute tips at the end of the night.

BARTENDING – EXPECTED (UNLESS INCLUDED IN FEE)

10-15% of pre-tax bill or $20+ per person. Make sure they do NOT have tip jar out if you are covering it. Bartending staff is paid differently than restaurant staff, so tips are mostly covered.

RENTALS – EXPECTED FOR DELIVERY/ SETUP STAFF

$20-$50 per person depending on how much stuff

APPAREL – OPTIONAL

$25-$50 per attendant

ALTERATIONS – RECOMMENDED

$15-$30 at the time of service

PHOTOGRAPHY – OPTIONAL

$75-$200 at the end of the night

PHOTOGRAPHY ASSISTANT – OPTIONAL

$40-$100 at the end of the night

VIDEOGRAPHY – OPTIONAL

$100+ at the end of the night

FLOWERS – NOT TYPICAL

DJ – OPTIONAL

$50-$150 at the end of the night

CEREMONY MUSICIANS – OPTIONAL

$25-$50 per person after the ceremony

BAND

$25-$35 per musician at the end of night

Need vendor gift ideas?

Some popular items are a bottle of wine or a gift card to Amazon or Target or one to your favorite local restaurants or shops.

INVITATIONS – NOT TYPICAL

HAIR/MAKEUP – EXPECTED

CAKES/SWEETS – NOT TYPICAL

HONEYMOON – NOT TYPICAL

TRANSPORTATION/DRIVERS – EXPECTED IF NOT INCLUDED IN CONTRACT.

DOUBLE CHECK!

15-20% of pre tax bill after service is complete.

VALET

$1-$2 per car. Let your attendants know you have taken care of the tip

DOUBLE check contracts: See if gratuity is built in

At the end of the day, one of the very best tips you can give that costs nothing is leaving your vendor a glowing review. You have a unique opportunity to help other couples while they are researching which vendor is right for them. The most popular review sites are Google, Facebook and of course on the RichmondWeddings.com website. Any and all vendors appreciate a review. Something else you may consider is when purchasing invitations, include extra Thank You cards to send a special note to your vendors.

Something Blue:

INCORPORATING SAPPHIRES INTO YOUR DAY-OF JEWELRY

We all know the old adage by heart: “Something old, something new…something borrowed, something blue.” The rhyme stems from 1800s Victorian England and was thought to bring good luck to a long and joyous marriage. Traditionally, a blue garter is worn to check off the final piece of the list. However, allow us to introduce a much sparklier option that is sure to make your special day all the more memorable and oh-so-gorgeous.

In a modern twist on an old classic, opting for stunning sapphires is a unique, sentimental, and practical way to incorporate something blue into your day-of-lucky trinkets. Whether you prefer simple sapphire studs, a diamond-encrusted sapphire bracelet, or have selected a blue sapphire and diamond wedding band, here are a few of our favorite blue sapphire beauties to consider adding to the day-of lineup:

PEAR SHAPE SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND HALO STUDS

Beautiful pear shape blue sapphires totaling 1.00 carat are surrounded by halos of round brilliant cut diamonds totaling 0.34 carats. A classic jewelry staple, bridal or otherwise.

SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND STATION TENNIS BRACELET

This tennis bracelet beautifully features oval-cut blue sapphires totaling 6.78 carats alternating between 0.56 carats of round brilliant cut diamonds, giving you that perfectly subtle “pop” of blue. Can be worn for years to come alone or stacked with mixed metal bracelet options

OVAL SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND HALO RIGHT-HAND RING

Timeless and elegant, this ring features an oval cut blue sapphire weighing 1.00 carat surrounded by a halo of round brilliant cut diamonds totaling 0.28 carats. Maybe our childhood dreams of marrying William or Harry didn’t pan out…this is the next best thing! Sport on your right hand for that extra daily dose of royal. Kate and Diana approved!

ALTERNATING SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND BAND

Crafted in a modern single-prong design, this band features emerald-cut blue sapphires totaling 1.30 carats and round brilliant cut diamonds totaling 0.20 carats. It’s true what they say–you’ll want to relive your wedding day over and over again. Extend your special something blue to last a lifetime alongside the engagement ring!

There are dozens of “something blue” options, and truly something to suit every style, taste, preference, or tradition. Rest assured, sapphires are precious gemstones, which means their durability, rarity, and value are unmatched–much like you and your partner’s love story.

Planning a wedding can sometimes be a little stressful. Coordinating all the details, making sure everyone has what they need, and packing all items can often feel overwhelming. While the beginning of your day can seem less important than other parts (ceremony, reception, etc.), it is an essential portion and can set the tone for the rest of the wedding. Here are five tips for a seamless and stress-free morning that will pave the way!

1. Give Yourself More Time

Plan to give yourself 1-2 more hours than what you think is needed. Often hair and makeup will run long, someone in the wedding party will get stuck in traffic on the way to the venue, or an important item is left and must be retrieved. There are many factors that may push the timeline back. This will cut into portrait time, or in the worst case, will delay the start of the ceremony. By adding in extra time to get ready, if something doesn’t go 100% according to plan, you won’t be stressed about the timeline getting off track.

2. Wedding Emergency Kit

Have a wedding emergency kit with everything you might need on the day of. Come prepared with essentials such as band-aids, bobby pins, deodorant, toothpaste, mouthwash, double sided tape, super glue, stain pen, scissors, tool kit, etc. You never know when these items might come in handy!

3. Eat

Eating the morning of your wedding is so important! Often this will be the only chance for food until cocktail hour. And if you’re not having a first look, then there is a good chance you won’t get to eat until the reception which means you could be going upwards of ten hours before you have a meal. Make sure to eat before getting dressed so that you avoid spilling on your outfit!

4. Know How to Finalize Your Outfit

Practice buttoning the dress, tying the corset and/or bowtie, fastening all straps, and know how to bustle your dress before the big day. Don’t waste time at the wedding watching YouTube videos on how to tie a tie or bustle your dress. Have the wedding party practice too!

5. Stay Hydrated and Keep Alcohol to a Minimum

Sometimes with the activity and excitement of the day, you can forget to hydrate. Drink plenty of water the morning of, especially if the wedding is during a hot month. Keep the alcohol to a minimum before the ceremony. The wedding day is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be plenty of opportunity, if you so wish, to drink and celebrate with the wedding party and guests. Pace yourselves. Also, use the bathroom before you start getting dressed.

Most importantly, just remember to breathe, have fun, and cherish this time!

Tips for Memorable Catering

When choosing a caterer, you’re probably going to be focused on a couple key factors; menu for the main meal and staffing to set up, serve and clean. However, they can provide so much more! Here are just some of the ways a caterer can help add special touches to the guest experience.

1. Breakfast, Lunch or Snacks for the Wedding Party:

A caterer can deliver breakfast, lunch, and/or snacks for you and the wedding party while you’re getting ready. It’s one less detail to worry about on the busy day, and close friends and family can spend as many of those precious moments with you as possible instead of running out to find a meal for everyone. Not to mention it’s easy to forget to eat when you have the pre-wedding butterflies!

2. Pre-Ceremony Drinks and Snacks:

You don’t have to wait until after “I Do” for the party to start! Perhaps some of the guests will be arriving early and you’d like them to have something to munch on while they wait to be seated, or if having an outdoor summer ceremony, consider providing beverages to quench their thirst. Have the guests greeted with a glass of sparkling wine as they get ready to celebrate your love story.

3. Signature Cocktails:

Often, the caterer will be overseeing the bar. Offering a signature cocktail (or 3!) helps cut down on lines at the bar. A caterer can help come up with a crowd-pleasing signature cocktail or mocktail that is both seasonal and personal.

4. Make Sure the Happy Couple is Fed:

Between posing for photos and spending time with each guest, it can be hard finding time to enjoy cocktail hour appetizers or even the main meal at the reception. Ask the caterer to set aside cocktail hour snacks, get you that signature cocktail and slice of cake you were looking forward to, or even pack to-go boxes to enjoy after the reception.

5. Create Custom Menu Items:

When choosing a caterer, they’ll provide menus of offerings depending on chosen service style. However, in the industry we recognize that every couple and event is different. Maybe you’d like to pay homage to a dish you had on your first date; or, you’d like to add a spicy sauce with a certain hors d’oeuvre to kick it up a notch. Don’t be shy, ask about adding personal touches to the menu!

6. Spruce Up the Reception with Food Presentation:

It’s obvious that details like rentals, decor, and florals are a big part of creating a beautiful reception. Attractive food presentation is another part of creating a memorable experience for guests. Passed appetizers can be served on individual spoons or in mini bowls for a fun bite. Caterers can incorporate flowers as garnishes on a display or can set up an eye-popping candy bar for dessert with sweets in your colors.

7. Partner with Other Vendors:

It’s always possible that you’re looking for something special that the caterer doesn’t provide. Not to fret! If you’re getting a cake from a local bakery, they’ll make sure it’s properly stored and displayed before it’s time to cut and serve to guests. Caterers will work with the venue, planner or day-of coordinator, and any other vendors to ensure every detail is taken care of - and probably feed them too!

First Room Look

There’s an age-old wedding tradition about couples not seeing each other on the wedding day until the ceremony. Over time, this tradition has evolved into a new one: The First Look. For the couple, with Mom and/or Dad, even Grandparents! They have grown in popularity and offer countless benefits. But the first looks don’t end there.

There’s a First Look that we think is just as important: The Room Reveal! This is an intimate time for both of you to see the wedding reception space before guests arrive. It is important to allow time to see the beautiful vision come to fruition. Couples put so much effort, thought process, and time into designing the space they have been envisioning for months. It is a moment filled with so much anticipation and excitement from the planning and design team, and from you!

Working with a planner and photographer/videographer, this is YOUR wow factor moment, and you certainly deserve it after all the hard work planning the big day. Some favorite moments to capture during this first look:

· Unique, personal details.

Amazing reactions – You may cry, smile as big as the sky, or even be in awe – let those emotions roll.

· The planner’s reaction – Their focus on your wedding is to create an entire day that's solely prioritized around your happiness, and they can't wait to enjoy the reveal to see your emotions: tears, laughs, and screams of pure joy.

· You may be able to have a private First Dance allowing a few more moments together before all the chaos.

You will need to schedule a room reveal into the timeline of the day. It should only take around 15 minutes, but you will not regret sparing the time. So pause, breathe, and let the beauty of the room sink in. Your reception space is ready to host your love story, and the magic is just beginning.

Try on your WEDDING RENTALS for size

Your wedding will feature many of the standard traditions. However, after the celebration is over, it's the unique, personal details that guests will remember. You would never walk into a wedding dress salon and pick off the rack without trying it on, right? Why skip that similar step when it comes to creating and designing your tables? Ask a rental coordinator if you can set up a “playdate” and try on those Pinterest-worthy pretties you’ve been eying! Most rental companies have a showroom with an amazing selection of beautiful samples for you to experience some hands-on fun!

One of the biggest decisions (after settling on the wedding location, of course) is how the room is going to come together. How many tables can we fit? Who is sitting where? What does our room design look like?

Here are a few table options to consider:

• Farm tables – extremely popular, no linens required, beautiful finishes

• Round tables – the most popular option with countless linen options available

• Rectangle tables – promote easy conversation among guests, smaller centerpieces

• Square tables – can accommodate larger centerpieces and more elbow room

• K ings tables – more modern and allow for more elaborate centerpieces

• Serpentine tables – bold design statement, more whimsical, require more space

Choosing the right linens for the tables can be tricky. They are a surprisingly important part of the overall décor that can make or break the tablescape's entire aesthetic. Selections range from:

• Standard Polyester – the most affordable option and available in over 100 colors

• Textures – such as woven linen, velvet, twill, satin, sequins, embroidered, soft crush, burlap, and cheesecloth (to name a few)

• Prints – florals, geometric, stripes, checkered, plaids, paisley, and more

Wedding chairs might not be the first thing that comes to mind when starting to plan your special day, but they’re an important detail, nonetheless. Not only do the chairs serve a functional purpose providing guests with a place to sit during the ceremony

and reception, they also show up in a lot of wedding photos, which means you'll probably want chairs to complement the rest of the decor that you painstakingly selected. Here are some favorites:

• Folding Garden Chairs – basic and versatile; wood folding chairs are a good choice for any wedding style, especially if the theme leans more casual (even better: they tend to be more budgetfriendly than other chairs.)

• Chiavari Chairs – featuring an iconic silhouette; these chairs embody timeless elegance and charm. These versatile chairs are available in a variety of hues and finishes, making them a classic choice for designs in any season.

• X-Back Chairs – a bold silhouette, rustic charm, and design versatility make them a popular choice and will complement farmhouse, industrial, and formal aesthetics alike.

• Bentwood Chairs – another iconic, curved-back silhouette and round seat that gives a rustic charm-meets-bistro elegance that’s irresistible.

• Luxury Upholstered Chairs & Sofas – surprise and delight guests with unique seating to easily elevate your big day.

• Ghost Chairs – clear acrylic chairs are a beautiful way to add design and class to your event. Simple clean lines in the silhouette allow this chair to be used in a variety of event designs and creates an open and airy feel.

It’s time to build the table of your dreams – charger plates, dinner/ salad plates, flatware, and glassware! This is where it all starts coming together to give all the feels!

• Charger Plates – Selecting a showstopping charger might seem like a small detail, but it'll have a huge impact on the overall look of the tables.

• Dinner/Salad Plates – If you're hoping to capitalize on your table's design potential, plates are a great place to start! Plates are often the first thing guests will notice, considering that they take up the most space.

• Flatware – Find your table’s soulmate with various patterns and finishes to perfectly match every vibe you crave! Flatware can be fabulous and fun or simple and elegant.

• Glassware – Pick the perfect drinkware pieces to sip in style! A subtle finishing touch that adds a little extra shine and glamour to your tablescape.

And, just like that, your wedding dreams have come true. Your tables, just like the overall wedding design, should embrace you and your partner’s style as a couple, truly making the day one of a kind. What are you waiting for? Go set up that playdate with your rental company and remember, the early bird gets their coveted rentals first!

Choose your RING STYLE

You have a diamond shape picked out, and now it’s time to choose the setting. The setting of a ring refers to every part other than the center stone. This includes the band, prongs, halo, and any other stones on the ring. There are various styles of settings ranging from traditional to unique. See some examples of different settings styles below.

Classic Settings

Classic settings include solitaire bands, white diamond halos, three-stone rings, four-prong settings, and more. Known for their timeless look, classic settings will never go out of style.

Modern Settings

Modern settings have a distinctive and contemporary look. These settings accentuate the center stone, which can be done by mixing metals, bezel settings, split shanks, and so on. Modern settings offer a stylish and sleek look.

Vintage Settings

Vintage settings can be described as old-fashioned, Victorian, or antiqueinspired. These settings incorporate breathtaking details like art deco or milgrain. The intricate metalwork crafted in vintage settings doesn’t go unnoticed!

Trending Settings

Calling all trendsetters! Trending settings are unique, unconventional, and defy the norm. We see settings with double center stones, east-to-west diamonds, twisting bands, diamond alternatives, and anything else that will make a statement.

There’s a setting to match every personal style and preference. Which style is your favorite?

For that reason, you may have some pretty high standards when arriving to the appointment. No doubt you’ve formed a more concrete image of the gown. Maybe you want sleeves, or you’re set on an illusion back. Even a specific style might be a must-have for some. Unfortunately, you may get into that “perfect” gown and get a chiller instead of chills: the perfect gown doesn’t look perfect.

“Who can get me out of this nightmare? Maybe it’s my entourage of 12 bridesmaids?” The reality is, it’s best to leave them home.

Pro tip: only bring two to three of your closest allies to the appointment.

A good bridal stylist knows the boutique’s gowns and how they fit. Share your vision with the stylist, and they can point you in the right direction keeping style, body type, and budget in mind. Keep an open mind. Try on that gown you passed on twice – if the stylist pulled it, it just might pleasantly surprise you.

Then there’s that other terrifying topic: “What if the gown of my dreams has a price tag that makes me wake in a cold sweat?” Again, open and honest communication with the stylist is key. Be realistic about the budget.

Pro tip: remember to include alterations in the calculations.

You may really want to try that gown from your lock screen, but if it’s not in budget you’ll feel like screaming when you can’t have it. Show the stylist the gown or explain the features you like, and they can help find similar styles that fit the budget.

So don’t let that sea of white in a bridal boutique make you feel like you’re drowning. Don’t be afraid to try silhouettes and styles not previously considered, and make use of the stylist’s knowledge. You’re looking for a flattering fit and an expression of your style, not trying to make a specific gown work because it’s what you thought you wanted. Often a dream has an unexpected, although beautiful, ending.

DETAIL PHOTOS & 10 Items to Include

Weddings are all about the details. From accessories to flowers, invitations and décor, the whole day begins with details! The elements you select tell the story of you, your spouse, and your wedding. Often photographers will start the day documenting these items. Here are ten to provide the photographer.

Kylie Hinson Photography

1. Loose Florals

Ask the florist for loose florals. They will often have extra clippings after making the arrangements and can provide a few additional ones for little to no cost.

2. All 3 Rings

Have the rings cleaned before the wedding! Keep the engagement ring and wedding bands in a secure box or container.

3. Shoes

Shoes make a great addition to these shots. Include both yours and your spouse’s.

4. Bouquet and Boutonniere

Flowers and greenery always enhance detail photos!

5. Invitation Suite

If possible, include two copies of your invitation suite: envelope, save the date, invitation, RSVP card, wax seals, packaging, custom or vintage stamps, and any special calligraphy used.

6. Jewelry and Accessories

Include all jewelry or accessories the two of you plan to wear, such as a necklace, earrings, watch, bracelet, cufflinks, veil, hairpiece, special ring, tie, bowtie, etc.

7. Vow Books

Vow books make a fantastic background for ring photos, especially when the vows are handwritten.

8. Heirloom Items

Honor your family by including heirloom items that have been passed down from generations or anything that holds significance to you and your family. Often this is where the borrowed & blue comes into play.

9. Other Items of Significance

Using ribbon on your invitation suite? Giving a special favor to your guests? Make sure to include any unique items or accents that will be present throughout the day.

10. Gowns, Suits, or Custom Clothing

Have your dress or suit photographed before you get dressed. If there will be a second outfit, custom jacket, or piece of clothing planned for a different part of the day, make sure to have it documented!

To ensure the day starts off right, collect all detail items you would like photographed and put them in a bag or box ready for the photographer to grab.

3 Unique Ways to Capture Groups at Your Wedding

Group photos are important at a wedding, however sometimes they can be tricky to coordinate. Don’t stress over the ideal method for capturing everyone, here are three alternative choices you might not have considered!

1. After the ceremony, take a group photo.

Immediately following the ceremony, when guests are already in one location, have the officiant announce that a group photo is about to take place. Have everyone stay seated or have them stand where they are. The photographer can take the picture from the altar with you in the middle of the aisle. Alternatively, if you are in an enclosed space that doesn’t allow for enough room, have the guests exit the ceremony space, gather outside, and take a group photo with you front and center. Afterwards, release guests to cocktail hour and have immediate family and the wedding party stay behind for formal portraits.

Kylie Hinson Photography
Kylie Hinson Photography

2. Instruct guests to come to you.

Instead of going around to each table and taking a photo with guests, (which usually results in unfavorable lighting and awkward angles), have them come to you! Set up two chairs on the dance floor (or stand) and arrange for the DJ to announce each table one at a time to come to the floor for a picture. This allows the photographer to set the same lighting ensuring you get a pic with everyone well-lit and in focus. If you want to add a fun twist, pick a song, and turn it into a game. Try to get all group photos done before the song ends. For the last pic have everyone come up for a large group photo and then immediately afterwards, announce that dancing is now open since all guests will already be on the dance floor.

3. Make a pitstop on the way to your meal.

When tables are called up to get food, have them stop by for a quick photo op. Either have guests gather around the sweetheart table or create a fun photo wall where you can capture a quick pic with guests.

No matter how you choose to capture group photos, make sure to let the photographer and DJ know what the plan is so they can assist with gathering everyone.

Elegant and Affordable Flowers for Every Wedding Season

Weddings can be expensive, but the flowers for your special day don’t necessarily have to be! By focusing on seasonal blooms, local varieties, and creative arrangements, you can achieve the same beautiful displays that stay within your budget no matter the size.

flowers

Flowers are the finishing touch when it comes to your wedding. From the bouquet you carry down the aisle to the centerpieces that adorn each table, the foliage you choose can take your decor to the next level. We’ve gathered tips for choosing the best flowers for your wedding and the professionals to bring your ideas to life!

Find the perfect florist

Moy Dumadag Photography

Every season has its own unique varieties that are more bountiful, thus making them more affordable. If your wedding is in the spring, tulips and daffodils are great options. In the summer, sunflowers, zinnias, gomphrenas, and celosia are plentiful at your local florist, farmer’s markets, and even in your own garden!

During the fall, sunflowers are still available and make a great transitional floral. Mums, yarrow, solidago, and occasionally dahlias are available. Note: Be cautious with dahlias as they can sometimes be shipped from overseas and that can increase cost. Gourds and pumpkins can also round out the decorations on any table display in the fall.

While the winter doesn’t have many seasonal florals, holiday greens are in abundance. Some great choices are fir, cedar, spruce, and especially pine. A floral option could be the Star of Bethlehem. And for a nice pop of red you can always use ilex berries which are only available during the holiday season. If you were looking for an additional choice for holiday greens, Christmas tree farmers cut the

bottom few inches from the trunks of trees which could offer an easy addition to your centerpieces.

No matter the season, cushion mums, alstroemeria, and asters are available year-round and are great affordable options. You may also want to visit your local florist or nearby local growers to discuss and to ask questions.

Finally, think creatively about how to make flowers best fit your budget. Instead of using luxury options, you can achieve the same lavish bouquets and intricate statement arrangements with more standard ones. Moments like these can be very stressful. Make sure you are consulting with a floral expert that helps guide you through the process. Remember, the key to any beautiful wedding isn’t the flowers, the cakes, or even the music played; it’s about spending the rest of your life with your best friend.

With over 35 years of experience, Weddings by Vogue can design florals for events of any style and budget. They guarantee the highest quality blooms at the best value. For more information go to weddingsbyvogue.com.

Jonika and Mason met on a night out at a restaurant in Richmond. Jonika was a regular at the establishment and Mason, a new employee, was working the front door. A bartender friend of Jonika’s encouraged Mason to strike up a conversation with her. After chatting for a few minutes, Mason gave Jonika his number, and a few weeks later, they went on their first official date.

In June 2022, the couple went on vacation to Destin, Florida. On their second day Mason arranged a parasailing excursion. As they soared into the air, Mason pulled out the ring and asked, “Will you marry me?” This left Jonika surprised, shocked, and excited. With tear-filled eyes and a beaming smile, she said “YES!” Of course, he waited until their feet were back on land to put the ring on her finger!

The two wanted a timeless, elegant, and romantic feel for the wedding. Pinterest and Instagram served as guides for curating themes they envisioned. Despite the stress of wedding planning, the process was also seen as exciting and rewarding. Jonika adds a reminder to other couples to “be patient with each other.”

The ceremony took place outdoors in front of a bold oak tree draped with linen flowing in the wind, truly embracing the venue’s natural beauty. After the ceremony, the party started in a vintage greenhouse overlooking a vast lake on the property. As the celebration ended, Jonika and Mason danced to You & I (Nobody in the World) by John Legend, then were sent off with a grand bubble exit!

Since the wedding, Jonika and Mason have recently purchased their first home. The happy couple is enjoying being new homeowners and all that comes with it.

On January 4th, 2017, Sean and Dakota went on their first date after meeting online. The pair instantly hit it off, talking for almost four hours over dinner and getting to know one another. On the way home, they decided to make a quick Starbucks trip which turned into spending another few hours chatting as the conversation flowed effortlessly between them. By the third date, Dakota took Sean to a nice restaurant where he asked him to be his boyfriend with, in proper Dakota fashion, a Ring Pop. “As if the steakhouse wasn’t enough,” Sean joked.

After five years of making memories, it was time to pop the question. Sean got to it first, completely taking Dakota by surprise. He bought a ring in June, anticipating an opportunity over the summer to propose. He landed on asking during a family vacation in St. Augustine, Florida. The entire family was in on it, telling Dakota that they were going to get up early to “watch the sunrise.” Around 6:30 AM, “before I even had my coffee!”, says Dakota, Sean walked Dakota to a little nook on a platform above the beach, surrounded by palm trees and illuminated by a striking sunrise. In front of them was a blanket with a basket of champagne sitting on it, and a ring. It was here that Sean took a knee and popped the question!

For the wedding, Sean and Dakota wanted a subtle Richmond theme and incorporated city vibes into the decor. One of their signature drinks was named “Give me Liberty” after the famous speech by Patrick Henry that took place in Church Hill. The drink included a pride flag in each glass which each guest soon wore on their shirts!

As a same-sex couple, they decided to embrace going against tradition and made the wedding their own! Specifically, instead of a garter toss or bouquet toss, there was a “speedo toss” as Dakota is known for his wide range of speedos he’ll wear to the beach. To the tune of “F150” by Dixon Dallas, Sean removed a pair of speedos Dakota had put on over his pants and sling shotted them into a crowd of eager bachelors and bachelorettes.

Since the wedding, a new travel nursing job in Washington and Oregon for Sean has allowed them to explore the Pacific Northwest.

In the midst of a pandemic, both Layton and Morgan sought the help of dating apps to find love. In July of 2020, they both swiped right. Morgan wasn’t looking for anything serious, but after a week of talking, agreed to go on a date with Layton. They decided to meet at a brewery in Scott’s Addition and the connection was instant. They talked for hours and didn’t want the night to end. The couple shares, “We both went home and told our roommates, we had just met the person we were going to marry someday.”

After dating for two years, Layton and Morgan got their sweet pup Darcy, and moved in together, just steps from the location of their first date. Layton decided it was time to go ring shopping. He proposed at Libbie Hill on a Saturday afternoon. He managed to gather all their family and a few friends for the proposal, before surprising her with an engagement party shortly after.

Morgan and Layton went with an elegant and timeless wedding theme. They had attended plenty of weddings as guests and found that they truly valued the thought behind the small details. The couple even had a wedding logo which was printed on every detail possible. There were personal elements throughout the day designed by Morgan such as bar signage, cocktail stirrers, and programs printed on newspapers to share details and fun facts, . It created a fun way for guests to interact before the ceremony.

When asked about their favorite part of the day, Morgan shared, “Right before the ceremony, one of my bridesmaids played Dog Days Are Over by Florence + The Machine, and we had this giant dance party. It helped so much with the nerves and was one of the most surreal moments of my life.”

The entire day was exactly what they had pictured, although in Morgan’s words, “...nothing will ever beat seeing Layton for the first time. The emotions were so real, and it was such an intimate moment I will cherish forever. I was so on the fence about a first look, but I was so glad we did.”

Victoria and Chris met through a mutual friend group in 2010. The two bonded over “a love of sushi, watching Downton Abbey, and the fact that we always found ourselves dancing together when our friend group went out.” They finally made things official and began dating in 2012. After eight years and surviving the first months of the pandemic together, it was time for the proposal! On Christmas morning in 2020, Chris proposed to Victoria in their Washington, DC condo with a ring designed by her favorite jewelry designer.

When describing the wedding day, Victoria wanted to evoke a classic, romantic, and traditional feel. As an architect and interior designer, she was inspired by the magnificent, historic Richmond buildings for their overall aesthetic. The ceremony was held at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and the reception at Bolling Haxall House. Victoria describes, “The Cathedral style is Italian Renaissance Revival, and Bolling Haxall House has the architectural styling of an Italianate villa.” Victoria handsketched both venues on the save-the-dates and in the invitation suite.

The couple shared, “In addition to the custom elements we incorporated into the decor and styling, our venue locations had special meaning to us. Chris’s father is active in the Knights of Columbus fraternal organization at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.”

Victoria and Chris valued their guests’ enjoyment during the reception. A pianist played the historic piano in the lobby during cocktail hour, and a jazz band performed west-coast style Jazz on stage during dinner. Dining tables were styled with taper candles set in vintage brass holders and traditionally styled overflowing floral arrangements. Amber lighting set the scene inside the venue at a dim level to create a moody, private atmosphere. The couple’s favorite part of the night was being able to let loose on the dance floor surrounded by their loved ones. “We were super happy that our guests let loose on the dance floor and danced the night away!”

Lauren and Ryan’s love story began a decade ago when they met while attending Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. After graduating, the couple intertwined their lives by growing their careers together in finance and eventually buying a house!

They knew a proposal could take time as Lauren’s goal was to find the perfect yellow diamond, a challenge as natural-colored diamonds can be extremely rare. “Her mom gave her a yellow costume ring as a child, and she always dreamed of having her engagement ring look exactly like it,” said Ryan. “Unfortunately, this ruined any potential surprise as I’m colorblind!” After finding the perfect one, the plan was for Ryan to propose once the ring was made. However, on Christmas Day in 2022, they were driving to visit family, and Ryan couldn’t hold it in any longer! “He proposed to me in the car with the loose stone in a box! I laughed and cried and was surprised after all!” said Lauren.

When wedding planning, the pair collaborated on theme. Lauren wanted an elegant, Jane Austen or Bridgerton inspired event, while Ryan envisioned something more modern and out-of-thebox. “We compromised by having an ombré effect; we started off classic and then slowly added in unique details. Ryan invests in space companies and he’s passionate about it. By the end of the night our guests were on an intergalactic journey complete with aliens, full-size NASA astronauts, and a 30ft inflatable rocket!”

Another important focus was their guests’ experience. Lauren and Ryan created an abundance of detailed, interactive activities for them such as a Petal Toss Bar during the ceremony, a sign at cocktail hour that highlighted who traveled the farthest or RSVP’d first, a game where guests collected 10 different fun fact napkins about the couple; a group picture with all 130 of them on The Jefferson’s famed staircase, watercolor artists during the reception who painted pictures of guests to take home, an elaborate dinner buffet, and, in addition to wedding cake, an ice cream sundae bar! As a late-night treat guests even left with bundt cakes that read, “Nothing Bundt Thanks!”

When asked what their best piece of advice, the couple shares, “Have fun with it! Your wedding can be anything you want it to be!”

· What does your Foundation look like?

What do you appreciate most about your fiancé and what similarities or differences do you share as a couple? Often, opposites attract and that is because you see something unique in your partner that you admire or are curious about. Was their upbringing, or has their life journey been very different or similar to yours? Sharing those ideas with each other can help you move toward a stronger foundation and lifelong marriage.

· Will you follow a map of life or chart your own course?

Are you a rule follower or someone who pushes the boundaries? Looking at these characteristics will help you discuss as a couple what your ‘roadmap’ looks like. Be prepared for detours and be flexible when it comes to understanding and listening to how you each will handle challenges and obstacles in life. You will not be the same person in a year, or many years from now, that you are today; we all change and learning how to journey along the course together will bring fulfillment in marriage and life.

· What goals do you have as an individual and as a couple?

Treat marriage like the best job you could ever imagine. Set goals, challenge yourself and each other to be the best you can be, carefully hold each other accountable and have trusted friends, mentors, colleagues, and coaches who you can turn to for additional support.

· Plan for pit stops and maintenance in the marriage.

You can’t run on empty and get to your destination of a lifetime together. Make time, monthly at least, for fun dates and an annual trip or vacation together (just the two of you). Read marriage & relationship books or devotionals together to keep learning and growing as a couple. Couples that plan for play and learning together are more satisfied with their marriages and are healthier too!

A healthy marriage is where you feel safe and secure. Do your part to make your spouse feel valued, validated, loved, and important. Compromise will be needed from time to time. Being willing to hear each other clearly and understand each other fully will allow for open, safe discussions around compromise. Love, Honor, Cherish, and Respect are foundational to healthy relationships and marriage. So, as you look forward to many anniversaries and special memory making events in life, continue to focus on the future and where you want to be many, many years from now using trusted tools and resources to get you there.

Rebecca Blackwell, Marriage & Relationship Coach with Relationship Foundation of VA, has been working with couples for over 15 years to help strengthen marriages and relationships. Her passion for marriage and family is contagious as she so enjoys encouraging couples as they start their marriage journey, enter new stages of marriage, are dating, or working through issues.

Building Stronger Relationships for the Common Wealth

In all the excitement of wedding planning, no one wants to think about divorce. Trust us, it’s not something we want to talk about in a wedding magazine either! But with roughly 50% of marriages ending in divorce or separation, it’s something we HAVE to talk about! After all, getting married is far more than planning a celebration — it’s planning the rest of your life..

Now what if we told you that there is something you can do to cut down your chances of experiencing divorce by 30%? That’s a no-brainer! Studies show that attending premarital counseling as a couple will decrease your chances of divorce by a third.

This is where Rebecca Blackwell and the team Marriage & Relationship Coaches come in. Marriage Coaching & Training RVA is a preferred partner of the Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening communities through healthy relationships, marriages, fathers, and families. Whether you’re single, engaged, married, or in a long-term relationship, there are relationship coaching and engaging programs that provide the practical tools for building strong and fulfilling relationships.

“This is not your old-fashioned premarital counseling. It’s your opportunity to connect and talk about what WILL happen, what COULD happen, and the good and the bad of being married.”

After chatting with Rebecca about premarital coaching and the other incredible programs FFVA has to offer, we were ready to sign up for a session ourselves! With 15 years of experience working with couples, certifications in several Marriage and Relationship Coaching programs, and her own 27 years of marriage, Rebecca has plenty of insight to share into what it takes to build strong foundations. She also has a clear passion for helping others form marriages just like the ones she grew up admiring.

“My grandma always said, ‘Don’t let the sun go down on your anger,’” Rebecca remembers. As she watched her parents navigate 58 years of marriage, Rebecca learned the importance of family, faith, and solid communication. Though her father has passed, he left Rebecca with strong roots, and she continues to honor his legacy by finding the silver lining of every situation and helping others develop those same strong roots.

“This is not your old-fashioned premarital counseling,” Rebecca says. “It’s your opportunity to connect and talk about what WILL happen, what COULD happen, and the good and the bad of being married.” Some of the topics Rebecca covers in her sessions include communication, problem solving, sex and affection, finances, children and parenting, spiritual beliefs, family, and friends.

Not sure if premarital counseling is something you need? Ask yourself if you and your partner have had successful conversations about a few things::

· How soon do you want children?

How many children do you want?

How will both families be involved in the marriage?

How would you handle job loss or a sudden move?

What type of roles and responsibilities do you see yourself taking around the house?

If you haven’t discussed at least a few of these topics as a couple, you may not be setting up a strong foundation for your future! Your sessions with Rebecca will be a safe space to share your feelings, make plans, and grow as a couple. Those big topics seem a lot less scary when someone is guiding the discussion!

Rebecca and the team at FFVA also counsel couples who are getting remarried and bringing two families together. Rebecca will help you learn from your previous relationships to create clearer communication and stronger foundations than ever before.

Once you’re a part of FFVA, you’re a part of their community for even more of life’s big events. After the big day, you can join The Ring of Relationships, a monthly subscription service offering quarterly coaching, annual assessments, discounts on date nights, and more.

And speaking of date nights, FFVA hosts incredible events for couples! You’ll be invited to dances, movie nights, glamping trips, paint parties, and more! Whether you’re looking to connect with other couples or make memories together, you’ll learn a little bit and have a whole lot of fun. You can register for date nights at www. vadad.org/relationships.

And they don’t stop there! Strong relationships mean strong husbands, dads, and coparents too. FFVA also hosts New Dad 101 for men becoming fathers too! This virtual half day event is hosted for dads, by dads. A veteran dad will talk you through what to expect as a new parent and what to expect throughout labor, delivery, and beyond. Three topics lead the fatherhood classes: No perfect dads, no dumb questions, and the most important relationship you can teach your kids is the one with their mother. You can also register for this and other fatherhood programs at www.vadad.org.

The best part? Four premarital coaching sessions with FFVA are ONLY $150! That’s a steal of a deal when you remember that the simple act of participating in premarital counseling means you’re 30% less likely to experience divorce. PLUS, mentioning RVA Weddings gives you $25 off, AND you can give these sessions as a gift! Who needs another set of mixing bowls when you give the gift of a strong relationship foundation?

He explains, “We want to enhance your natural beauty with minor adjustments.” In fact, if Dr. A doesn’t think a procedure is right for a patient, he won't do it. “We’ll work together to create a treatment plan that is best. If we can’t achieve a safe, natural-looking result, I won’t do it. I have to be able to sleep at night!”

For the average person, seeing a doctor and undergoing a new procedure can be intimidating, but don’t worry — Dr. Agnihotri and his team make it easy. First, you’ll head to their pristine Short Pump office for a simple consultation. Dr. A will chat through what your goals are and the look you want to achieve while explaining the different steps he can take to get you there. Then he’ll create a personalized treatment plan that works for your timeline.

So, if your wedding date is your deadline, when should you start working with Dr. Agnihotri?

For the more surgical options like Eyelid Rejuvenation, Laser Skin Resurfacing, or a Face Lift, the process should begin a year to six months out. The earlier the better! The same goes for filler treatments like Botox and Dysport which are injections to reduce fine lines. “Six months is protocol so we can develop

a treatment plan. If you were training for a 5k, you wouldn’t wear brand new sneakers the day of,” Dr. Agnihotri explains.

The recent trend of having glowing, bright skin is not lost on Dr. Agnihotri. That’s why his top recommendation for wedding day beauty is a HydraFacial. With this non-invasive skin-clearing procedure, you’ll leave with glowing skin in just 30 minutes. “You get that healthy, dewy glow while your skin is infused with antioxidants, leaving your face hydrated and refreshed,” Dr. A says. Since it’s non-invasive, you can treat yourself to a HydraFacial the week of the wedding because after all, flawless wedding makeup starts with beautiful, healthy skin!

Don’t wait to start your journey to a beautiful complexion! Contact Dr. Agnihotri at Agnihotri Cosmetic Facial Surgery and see their complete list of procedures on their website https://agnihotricosmeticsurgery.com or call 804.270.5028. acscosmetic.com @acs_cosmetic

Q& A

WITH KAYLEE, A RECENT BRIDE

Q. What made you want to take control of your skin?

A. My acne started in my younger teens which led to unbearable scarring. I didn’t know how to take care of my skin. I felt like I couldn't leave the house without piles of makeup on. It was time for me to finally do something about it, and I’m so glad that I did because I barely wear makeup anymore. I feel so much more confident and comfortable in my skin!

Q. How far in advance did you start treatment? What treatments did you receive?

A. I started treatment less than a year before my wedding, which I didn’t think was enough time. Dr. Agnihotri assured me that this was enough time to achieve my goals, and we got started a month later. I had two Hydrafacials and then two microneedling sessions. I also received Obagi® Rebalancing Cream, their medical grade skin care products.

Q. How fast did you notice the results?

A. After the first microneedling session, it was really kind of crazy. My husband, (fiancé at the time) said, “Oh my gosh, your skin looks so different. Are you wearing makeup?” And I said “No!”

Q. What was your experience like with Dr. Agnihotri and the ACS Team?

A. I cannot say enough good things about them. Dr. Agnihotri didn’t rush; he took the time to talk to me before each procedure and made me feel really calm throughout the whole process. There aren't a lot of people like him, it’s so refreshing. I can’t pinpoint exactly what to say about the team because everything sounds right. They made me feel so good, and their location is very convenient.

Q. Is the investment worth it?

A. Oh my gosh, yes! Also, I now know how to use skin care products properly because of Dr. Agnihotri.

Q. Anything else you want to mention or any advice for current/future brides?

A. Skin care is extremely important. You can put as much makeup on your face as you want, but at the end of the day, clear, beautiful skin is so worth it. Take care of your skin. Go have this experience, thank me later.

A Guide to Planning the PERFECT HONEYMOON

Crafting the ideal honeymoon would be a breeze if you were acquainted with every resort and destination and if endless free time was at your disposal. However, the internet is flooded with misinformation, and numerous bloggers are receiving compensation for penning reviews about resorts.

Selecting the perfect destination isn't as straightforward as picking a resort solely based on online pictures and the best price; numerous pitfalls could arise. In the quest for a flawless honeymoon, everyone appreciates valuable connections and a helping hand.

Dream up a honeymoon vibe.

Before getting into the details, let's daydream about the ultimate honeymoon! Chat about wishes, likes, and the general vibe you're after. Whether a tropical getaway, diving into cultural wonders, or wanting an adrenaline-fueled escapade, syncing up your daydreams will be the kickoff to an unforgettable adventure! Either way, don’t forget to add a touch of romance to the honeymoon!

Start by figuring out a honeymoon wish list; then shape the budget accordingly. Opting for destinations with a solid all-inclusive scene often means getting more bang for your buck. If you want non-stop exploration, factor in considerations like budget, travel duration, and the preferred vibe—be it tropical, urban, or adventurous.

What do you want to invest in the honeymoon?

Establish a budget that accommodates a dream honeymoon without causing financial stress. Consider all expenses, including flights, accommodations, activities, meals, and unexpected costs. A clear budget will guide decisions and allow you to indulge in experiences within your means. Ensure the budget aligns with the vision!

Select the ultimate destination.

Selecting the right destination is pivotal. Factors such as the season, climate, and shared interests should influence decisions. Whether it's the romantic allure of Paris, the pristine beaches of the Caribbean, or

the cultural richness of Europe, pick a location that resonates with both of you. Opt for what suits you best; don't rely solely on friends and social media crowdsourcing. Your travel style is unique.

To go all-inclusive or not?

Are the plans to thoroughly explore the destination, or perhaps enjoy one or two tours? If leaning towards a resort-centric experience with numerous on-site activities and dining options, then an all-inclusive setup might be the perfect fit. All-inclusive resorts simplify the planning process by bundling accommodations, meals, and activities into one package. This option allows you to relax and enjoy each other’s company without constantly checking the budget. However, if you’re inclined to venture out and explore daily, opting for a non-all-inclusive resort may be more suitable.

The Estate at Independence includes all these items as well as an onsite coordinator.

The Estate at Independence offers many breathtaking spots for portraits, ceremonies and receptions including these.

BUDGETACTUAL NOTES

CATERER/FOOD/BEVERAGE Before you sign the contract, be sure to look at the food and beverage minimums. If you are looking to stay within a budget, limit the bar to beer and wine or add a little bit of personality with a signature beverage!

The Estate at Independence has lowered its rental fee to help ensure you have a fantastic meal at your reception!

DJ VS. BAND When making this decision, know the rules of the venue and the space available. A 5-piece band is going to need more space than a DJ! Many places, like The Estate at Independence, welcome both.

GRATUITIES For your caterer or food service, gratuity is always added into your bottom line, but you do have other wonderful vendors on the day of that you can treat. Keep this in mind when thinking about your budget. Be sure to arrange envelopes with each vendor’s name on it so your planner can easily handle it on the wedding day.

ACCOMMODATIONS Venues will often work with nearby hotels who can offer room block pricing.

Other venues such as The Estate at Independence offer custom onsite lodging for the newlyweds or family and the bridal party.

Let’s

do the math

Use these simple formulas to determine roughly how many bottles you’ll need for your reception.

WINE:

A x B x 0.5 ÷ 5 = 750ml Bottles Needed

BEER:

A x B x 0.3 = 12 oz. Servings of Beer Needed

SPIRITS:

A x B x 0.2 ÷ 15 = 750ml Bottles Needed

Not serving cocktails?

Plan on a mix of 60 percent wine, 40 percent beer.

WINE:

A x B x 0.6 ÷ 5 = 750ml Bottles Needed

A = Number of Guests

B = Drinks required per guest

Based on length of party

1 hour = 2 drinks

2 hours = 3 drinks

3 hours = 4 drinks

4 hours = 5 drinks

5 hours = 6 drinks

BEER:

A x B x 0.4 = 12 oz. Servings of Beer Needed
