ith increasing expansion of IT across the various segments in the Indian market, there has been an increase in the threat for the need to protect IT fields from threats. The challenges to internal security of India are numerous. The extent and scope of threats are complex, varied and vast. Every country is dealing with the threats as they face new problems and concern regarding the IT adoption. There are increasing threats of not just viral and virtual attacks but also other forms of bullying which is taking up the virtual space. Overall, more than 50 per cent of India is said to be affected by one or the other of these threats, which are not just ‘law and order’ problems. A dedicated cyber security law of India

Further cyber security disclosure norms in India must be formulated by Modi government. The cyber security awareness in India must be further improved with a special emphasis upon clearly specifying thecyber security obligations of directors of Indian companies. The cyber security challenges in India would increase further and India must be cyber prepared to protect its cyberspace. CECSRDI believes that the starting point is to draft the cyber security policy of India 2015 as the 2013 policy is highly defective and of little significance. The Government should formulate a basic cyber security policy of India 2015. This

Incidents of cybersecurity breach surged by a record 117 per cent during the year and companies are investing more to tackle this menace, as also improve business performance, said a survey. According to global consultancy firm PwC along with CIO and CSO, “The average number of information security incidents detected by respondents increased by 117 per cent over the previous year, up from 2,895 last year to 6,284 this year.” Meanwhile, the increase in incidents of cybersecurity breach globally stood at just 39 per cent during the period under consideration ( July 2014—June 2015). The report said that companies in India are investing more to reduce cybersecurity risks and improve business performance as a 71 per cent increase in budget on cybersecurity were seen during the said period. Moreover, an increasing number of organisations are now adopting cloud—based security models to manage cyber threats, the report said. Losses as a result of incidents of cybersecurity also surged by 135 per cent over the previous year, and the average cost per incident increased by close to 8 per cent, the report said. ESET Asia Cyber Savviness Report 2015 reveals users in India and Indonesia take the most proactive steps to secure their devices and online activities. ESET survey shows that out of 62.6% Indian users knowing about cyber attacks, 60.1% are taking actual steps to prevent it. Measures taken by users include changing their passwords regularly, backing up their data, and installing the latest versions of cyber security software. A closer look at the cyber security trends in Asia reveals the region still has a long way to go in understanding online security and protecting themselves. In fact, 3 out of 5 consumers are unable to answer basic cyber security questions correctly. Despite the fact that Asia-Pacific region has the highest number of internet users in the world, the results of the study show that users in this region don’t know how to stay safe online. Moreover, a large share of those polled commit basic mistakes like using passwords containing easy to access personal information, such as their date of birth or surname, storing passwords and credit card details online, and connecting to unsecured public Wi-Fi networks. “In India, cyber security is a buzz word, but not a daily practice,” said Zakir Hussain, ESET India Country Head. “Despite India having more mobile and smartphone users than PC users while more and more malware being created for these devices particularly, the awareness about such cyber threats is hardly there. It is very unfortunate that cyber criminals not only target devices with malware, over time they have mastered social engineering tactics.
