>Driving From/to Juan Santamaria The drive from the San Jose airport (Juan Santamaria International Airport) to Jaco will take about 1 hour and 30 minutes and is fully paved with the new highway in place. We suggest exchanging at least $5 US dollars into Costa Rican colones for the tolls on the highway. Ask the rental car agent to send you off in the right direction, which should be west on Route 1, past the airport. The first 13 km uses the same "old" route to Manuel Antonio. GPS devices might not be updated and will likely still have the "old" route so do not rely on them to follow the complete recommended route. Once on Route 1 - follow signs to San Ramon, and continue straight ahead for about 10 km. After the second bridge crossing, get in the right lane and take the next exit (Route 3) for Jaco / Quepos / Manuel Antonio. There is also a sign here for Punta Leona and Atenas. Turn left at the stop sign, crossing back over Route 1. Follow Route 3 for about 3 km. Look for a large Christian church on the left and then a soccer field and make a left on the road immediately after it. You are on the road to Turrucares. There are no signs and it's a secondary road, so don't think you've made a mistake. It's currently the best connection to the toll highway from the airport. Drive for another 3 km through this somewhat winding road. Once you arrive at the highway intersection turn left BEFORE the highway. Again, there are no signs here yet. Be careful as it's a narrow two-way gravel access road. After some 300 meters you will arrive at a roundabout. Make a right following the highway signs to Orotina / Atenas.

Airport

Drive on the highway through 2 toll booths. Then, take the next right exit to Route 34, follow signs for Jaco / Quepos. This exit forms a loop and then you bypass a roundabout to continue straight to Jaco (another 36 km). Follow Route 34 (also called Costanera) for a while and you will cross over the Tarcoles River Bridge - there are usually a few cars parked before/after the bridge since it is a popular viewing point for the crocodiles lurking in and around the river. Shortly after this you will see the ocean on your right hand side. Pass Punta Leona and Herradura - you will see the Automercado supermarket on the right hand side of the road. Finally you will see signs for entering Jaco on the right hand side.

Claritas Beach Grill & Hotel 2643-2615 Honestly - For my needs, it was perfect. The rooms are basic - nothing fancy but great A/C, large fridge, comfortable bed, decent towels and linen, a safe just big enough for my netbook, no blanket needed as there is a bedspread when the A/C is on, A/C rooms face the ocean with lots of light during the day, the back part of the room is dark, but the only thing there was my closet and the safe. Service was exemplary. The bar/restaurant sits on the sand. Food good, great Pizza, drinks of every description made by serving ladies, sweet and efficient. Every night some kind of music - from Karaoke one night to live music the next, and much to my liking, often packed mostly with locals, rather than mostly tourists. So it was easy to get a real sense of CR and to meet locals. Yes, the music is easily heard in the rooms until it ends at 11pm, and it’s fine. The beach was a soft reddish/gray volcanic sand, easy on the feet, water at bathtub temperatures, the waves intense and not easy to swim but easy to body surf or to walk with feet in the water and to explore the coastline. It would be easy to spend a few days at Clarita's without going anywhere and have a great experience.

Tuanis Apart Hotel 2643-2094-Jaco Centro Loved everything about Tuanis ... This hotel was perfect, just 50 meters from the beach, quiet and very clean.. Those 3 days we spent at Rick's place were absolutely the best. Tuanis is just so clean, safe and friendly. The owners Ricky and Laura are incredible host and so helpful with any questions or problems you may have. So great to be able to park our rental cars inside the hotel grounds and not worry about them. The beach was visible from our balcony and we enjoyed watching everyone coming and going up and down the street. The Italian restaurant across from Tuanis was one of the best meals we had in Costa Rica and the ambiance there and at Tuanis was wonderful. The rooms are decorated so interesting...along the lines of "designer" hotels now popular in big American cities. We were a group of 2 mothers, 3 adult daughters and one extra friend. >> All the rooms at Tuanis were different and all good. Some had kitchens and some didn't. I would totally recommend this hotel, and would love to come back again!

Heladeria “El Barco” Taste a tradition, is the real thing. All artisanal made, not from a can! They feel that the majority of ice cream bought today in your local supermarket has lost that traditional farmhouse taste - So They thought we'd do something about it!

Burro Burrito Yumm! .. it is soooo goood! Service is great, with friendly staff. If you love burritos this is the place to go! I don't typically eat burritos but after seeing this menu and having such a hard time making a decision, I will definitely be back to try several other items. I highly recommend ! Excellent menu variety. Good prices... Not greasy. .. All these in a great easy going Mexican atmosphere. Huge burritos that you pick the ingredients for. Options are creative and fun, Everytimes it was delicious, the portions are big. Never a disappointment. Always the efficient service. Good for groups. Offering Delivery Services

Heladeria el Barco, believe ice cream should be a genuine treat. Straight UP

Sportfishing Adventure

"Straight Up" It's says it all A friend in Jaco told be to try Bill's Straight Up Sport fishing Adventures. Best decision we made this trip, (I've been to Costa Rica 6 times before). Bill offered good pricing and the value was clear upfront...it included everything...no extra fees and even included lunch and drinks. They just made new addition to the fleet, air conditionned and all the confort needed when out there. The captain and deckhand worked harder than any other crew I've seen. They worked the lures, changed the baits and kept us entertained all while watching for marlin in the waters. It worked. We pulled in a 125lb striped marlin and had several other hook ups where we could have caught a few more even. Bill was a trusting soul as well. We forgot our cash. He put us on the boat and got us fishing and told us not to worry about the fee until we got back. We promptly paid him, but any other outfit would have told us to pound sand. Bill even gave my son a t-shirt souvenir =). They make the extra miles for your deep fishing, Great Captains, great crew.. Great fishing!

The Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao, Guacamaya) Large, colorful macaw. The largest Neotropical parrots. Scarlet macaws prefer life in the rainforest.. It is native to humid evergreen forests in the American tropics. It is about 81 centimetres(32 in) long, of which more than half is the pointed, graduated tail typical of all macaws,The average weight is about 1 kilogram (2.2 lb). The plumage is mostly scarlet, but the rump and tail-covert feathers are light blue,The Scarlet Macaw can live up 30 to 40 years. Scarlet Macaws eat mostly fruits, nuts and seeds. The Scarlet Macaw lays two or three eggs in atree cavity. The female incubates the eggs for about five weeks, and the chicks fledge from the nest about 90 days after hatching and leave their parents about a year later. Since this country is one of the original place Scarlet Macaw were first found, bird-watching is definitely worth the effort. Places such as Palo Verde National Park, Carrara National Park , Corcovado and now Jaco are very good spots to watch them and receive their blessings !! do not missed them.

InterestingFacts Macaws are highly intelligent. Some may talk, others may never talk. Being rainforest birds, macaws love to bathe, because it will keep their feathers looking beautiful. With wide strong wings and hollow bones that aid flight, they can reach speeds of 35 miles per hour. Macaws are not sexually dimorphic. Macaws can live 30-40 years. For some of the larger macaws 80-100 isn't unheard of.

InterestingFacts Macaws are social birds and need plenty of interaction. They can be very loud. A macaw can scream at over 105 dB. Scientific Name Lifespan Ara macao 50 years

Blessings from above

Did you Know That macaws figure in the mythology of Central and South America. In the Mayan mythology, the sun god was represented by a macaw, which is a natural role for a bird with such brilliant feathers. The macaw is represented in many different forms of ancient Mayan art and artifacts such as painting, ceremony headpieces, jewelry and sculptures. Incas believed that seeing them was a blessing, and a true honor. Not many people or country could enjoy co-living with this colorful bird. Indigenous tribes and people in Costa Rica still think that they are like receiving a lucky charm, and a token of good fortune from above.

Vista Los SueĂąos Canopy Tour

Hard to get bored at this place. Take a break and get online!! while we were staying at Jaco when we took a break from surfing. The adventure starts on a 15 minute ride aboard in a specially designed 40 passenger tractor to the top of the mountain Descending via a series of zip lines, 15 platforms and 14 cables that is crazy, distance of 3.5 kilometers‌..including the longest cable in the area of 2400 ft! The Vista people have a photogragher who will take good quality photos of you while you are zip lining. They also provided fresh fruit and cold water at the end of the trek. No wonder why the are first in the Trip advisor. Friendly and fun staff are very safety conscious and guide you through the zip lines and are there to help you on the platforms on the massive trees. They have designed the lines very well to protect these trees. This place is very well run but a few of the guests in our group were a little intimidated at times. By the end though everyone I saw at the base was smiling, laughing and very ex-

cited about the experience. The course is physically demanding at times. The youngest child I saw on the course was about 10 years old but she was having a lot of fun. My daughters were experienced in zip lining before they went to Vista. They felt very confident at the start and found certain sections quite challenging, they were very thrilled by their rides. Adrenaline Rush I highly recommend this place. Very green and sustainable activity. Very exciting and if you buy the $20.00 photo disk you will have lots of great photos to remember your experience. TIP> Its better to wear running shoes instead of sandles here. They can tape them to secure them on, but its better to have your feet fully protected. We for Tomorow Sustainabla Tourism in Practice, by Costa Rica Dreams. Angling, one great pastimes, at Los Sueños, apply as a rewarding rule, the practice the art of “catch and release.” When done properly, it does no harm to the fisherman's quarry, and allow substantiality in fishing waters Responsible Anglers handle fish that are to be released with care. Fish are covered in a mucosal film that protects them from parasites and bacteria. Once caught and brought aboard, handling the fish with a wet glove or towel will minimize the amount of protective film that is lost. Fish should not be allowed to flop around or make contact with any surfaces inside the boat. If possible, keep all fish that are to be released in the water while removing the hook and avoid at all costs handling the gills and soft underbelly. All responsible anglers should practice proper catch and release techniques. Not only do these techniques help protect fish stocks, but they also present a great opportunity to teach younger anglers stewardship of their natural environment, and watermanship. Employing good practices it allows both the fish and the fisherman to come away and make a difference. Release for tomorow. CR dreams: 2637 8516

1,412 billfish released, Another Record breaking Tournament

2013 Signature Billfish Series

A fish a minute 1,412 billfish released by 38 participating boats during the First Leg of the 10th Annual Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series – a new (world?) record! The first leg of the 2013 Los Sueños Signature Billfish Series, presented jointly by Smith Merritt Insurance, Travelers Insurance and International Special Risks, held from January 16 19 at Los Sueños Resort and Marina, Costa Rica, welcomed 38 participating teams and 147 individual anglers. It was a record breaking tournament.

PRESS RELEASE Contact: Ashley Bretecher Tournament Director

The tournament radio never went silent with boats reporting an incredible average of one billfish per minute. Over the course of the three fishing days 1,406 sailfish and 6 marlin were released, breaking the standing record, set during the first leg of the 2006 Series, of 1,282 billfish releases by 46 boats. DAY 1 Rumor had it that the fishing was fantastic leading up to the tournament. Eight sailfish releases by 8:10 am was a promising sign of things to come. By 9:45 am, Rebel had taken an early lead with 800 points, followed by Boo Loo and Tijereta with 700 points each. Two hours after lines in a whopping 97

Los Sue単os Billfish Series Y 10th ANNIVERSAR

sailfish had already been released. The bite continued to heat up and just past noon the tally was up to 206 releases. By the end of Day 1, 415 sailfish were released and HT Hook had won first place, on time, over Dragin Fly, each with 2,200 points. Family & Friends placed third for the day with 1,900 points. With no marlin yet in play and the incredible bite, teams were anxious to get out again and see what Day 2 would bring.

2013

DAY 2 Day 2 started where Day 1 left off. The radio was running hot, as teams called in doubles and triples galore, with some even reporting quadruples. Within the first 120 minutes of the day, 120 billfish were called in to Tournament Control. The first marlin of the tournament was released by Da Bait at 9:29 am. By 10:00 am Dragin Fly already had 7 sailfish releases for the day and had

2013

moved into the lead with 2,900 points. A second marlin was released by Tijereta at 12:52 pm. Fishing was off the charts with boats seeing 40 fish or more! Dragin Fly was able to maintain their lead with 4,400 points by day’s end, followed by HT Hook in second and High Hook in third. The total fish tally for Day 2 added up to an incredible 523 sailfish and 2 marlin, bringing the two day total to 940 billfish. Seafix took the day though, after releasing 27 sailfish, the most out of all the boats in Day 2. Seventy percent of the participating boats reported catches in the double digits on day 2. DAY 3 Going into Day 3, everyone was wondering if the bite would cooperate for yet another day. Conditions could not havebeen better. The skies were gorgeous, temperature warm (not too hot), seas were calm and clear. Shortly after lines in was called out over the tournament radio, it was clear that the third and final day would be a busy one indeed. Just after 9:00 am the 1,000th fish was released by Miss Behavin. By 2:05 pm it was official! A new tournament record was set with a double by Uno Mas.

What a way to celebrate the first leg of the 10th Anniversary Series! At 3:03 pm Dragin Fly released the third of the four marlin reported during Day 3, giving them a very comfortable lead. They secured their first place finish with 1,000 points more than their closest runner up Rebel. Rebel quietly worked their way into second place overall with an astounding 27 sailfish releases on Day 3, ending the tournament with a total of 5,700 points. HT Hook followed in third place and showed amazing stamina over the three fishing days, ending with 5,200 points. All told, a total of 1,412 billfish were reported, including 6 marlin. Art Mc Donald, one of the IGFTO certified observes, made a quick calculation; 1,412 fish released, divided by 1,440 minutes of fishing equals a fish a minute. Congratulations to all of the participating teams on an outstanding job well done! Looking forward to find out who will become the 2012 Series Champion during the second leg which will take from March 21st – March 24th, 2012.
