Conception of the plan is to express the definite connection between Slovenian and Italian areas with the means of architecture. Two subcentres are formed within the city: the Commercial Centre is the surrounding area of Casa Rossa; the Centre of Culture, Touristic and Research is the former hospital area. Development of Casa Rossa square and of the related Slovenian parts can be realized basically on business grounds. Traditional commercial functions can be placed here, such as periodical and permanent markets, shops, service units. This Commercial Area at the border is to be specialized on mainly the local producers’ goods. Above these ground-floor functions apartments can be developed. The longitudinal shaped market square is suitable for occasional programs, fairs. The former hospital area can be developed both on business ground and on non-profit ground by municipality. Business capital, enterpreneurs should be involved to develop hotel and youth hotel functions, restaurants, some of health services, research units and indoor recreation facilities. Business development shall make profit to finance cultural functions and on the other hand cultural, environmental and touristic functions, programs shall provide a suitable environment to attract capital. We connected the SGF and the University area by pedestrian and cycle path. We put the health service functions on the territory of former Psychiatric Hospital. We lined a sports and recreation axis to Slovenian sport fields beside the stream.

The SGF Area The present main building could be sustainable only after drastic reconstruction. The building itself represents the municipal hospital in Gorizia and around. Its meaning and spaces are not suitable for the new functions and can not be transformed. Therefore the main building shall be demolished. We keep the other buildings located in the park since they can be utilized because of their small sizes, technical conditions, architectural values. We place a new landmark-type building on the area which gives a new characteristics and orientation to the whole park. The building rearranges the park itself together with the planned functions. The building accomodates all functions related to youth. It is organized along a street parallel to the longitudinal axis. Its interior spaces can be changed flexible, it can be adapted to the constantly changing demands, but still remaining compact and preserving its landmark. The park is a living, pulsating program area. The colourful, diversified park full of life is disciplined and regularized by the architectural characteristics.
