Internationally renowned, Istanbul-based, multidisciplinary design studio, Autoban creates statement furniture to further the story told through their architecture and interiors. Each product is informed by a uniquely space-centric approach, blending wit with sophistication, and minimal forms with rich materials. Autoban products at once challenge convention, celebrate form, enhance function and enrich experiences for all who encounter them. Luxury modern woodworker, De La Espada partners with Autoban. The design studio has complete creative control, while De La Espada crafts each product to the highest standard at their own production facility in Northern Portugal.

MOODBOARD
Daily life in Istanbul is a rich source of inspiration for Autoban - the busy pace, the local craft, and the sharp contrasts: the old and new, and the influences of both east and west. Autoban view materials as paints on their palette, and find inspiration in everything from various metals and timbers to patterned tiles and luxurious textiles.

Maze Table, with its bold, graphic aesthetic, is a contemporary take on KĂźndekari, a traditional woodworking technique dating back to Anatolian Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Created using the intersection of two patterns, Maze looks deceptively simple, yet plays on a series of optical illusions.

TIMBER Autoban products are available in a choice of American Black Walnut, American White Oak, or European Ash. The timber we use is from sustainable farms. The trees on the farms are pruned regularly to allow for consistent grain patterns and fewer knots, ensuring exceptionally strong planks of the highest quality. Our oil finishes embrace the inherent colour and grain variations in the timber, whilst providing a renewable surface for enduring beauty. Stains are sealed with a clear matte lacquer to maintain the colour whilst preserving the tactility of the surface. Our painted timber is wire brushed before the application of the paint to create a textured surface.

INSPIRING BOOKS
Autoban designers, Seyhan Özdemir and Sefer Cağlar, were taught in the style of the Bauhaus at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and continue to be inspired by the movement. They also have an affinity for Art Nouveau, the glamour of classic cinema, and the work of architects and designers including Louis Kahn, Ettore Sottsass, Le Corbusier and Mies Van Der Rohe. Surrounded by the rich diversity of Istanbul, Autoban’s designs often reflect the city’s culture, history, and daily life, in bold, graphic forms that are an homage to their modernist influences.
