Although the main picture appears to show a mother and her two children escaping tear gas, others were reportedly not so lucky. “Rosa was tear gassed with her 4 children yesterday,” tweeted reporter Paola Mendoza, alongside a picture of a mother who appears to be struggling to open her eyes.

Trump came to support the criminal justice reform bill on Wednesday after White House officials were able to demonstrate to him that there is a growing coalition of support for the bill, representing people on different sides of the political spectrum and law enforcement groups, a senior White House official said.

Trump was first presented with the

framework for criminal justice reform the White House was pursuing “about a year ago” and had “no objection to the policy” at the time, the official said.

“In fact, he thought it made a lot of sense,” the official said.

The President ultimately signed on once the midterms had passed and White House officials presented him with “the body of support that we’ve gotten for this,” the official said.

Supporters of the FIRST Step Act expect that Trump’s backing will help propel the prison and sentencing overhaul bill through Congress, a push White House officials hope to accomplish during the lame duck session of Congress.

The White House plans to begin circulating the final text of the reworked legislation this week.

Once members have a chance to look it over, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised to bring the bill to a floor vote if there are 60 votes in favor of it.

As the Thanksgiving Holiday festivities came to and my family and I were looking forward to the Christmas holiday season and the New Year, it was not possible for me to ignore the recent national events, mostly related to Donald Trump and his administrative policies, and cause me to ponder, what more can we expect from the least most popular president in my recollection and the one who did not even win the popular vote to win the presidential election.

There were so many startling events that I don’t know where to start.

The caravan of gang members, criminals and drug dealers that Trump trumpeted were approaching from Mexico’s interior to invade our nation – that probably incited his base to respond during the November election – did not materialize. What did materialize was his administering debilitating tear gas to mothers, shoe-less children and infants in diapers. Please Donald no more tear gas.

The thousands of U.S. military, who have been dispatched to the Mexican Border States, have been sitting, idly waiting to protect our borders. While the president was enjoying one of his numerous visits to his Florida resort during the holiday, American service personnel were eating C-Rations out of a can on Thanksgiving Day. Please Donald let these troops come home or return to normal military duty.

The report that Donald’s Attorney

General Appointment, whose validity has been questioned by legal scholars and elected officials from both parties, has himself been the subject of federal investigation as a result of a company on which he had served as a board member, a man who has not received any senate confirmation and one whose credentials to serve as the nation’s top cop, are clearly in question. Please Donald select someone for this post who serves the nation and not your personal interests.

Donald’s visit to the California forest fires, when he said that California needed to rake the (40 million acres of) forest made about as much sense as him tossing paper towels to the crowd in Puerto Rico when that island had suffered the most devastating hurricane and flooding to date. Please Donald listen to your administration’s climate change findings and understand the real cause of California’s fires.

The list goes on and on; from his support of the Mississippi Senator who boasted about attending a public lynching to his proposal to build a state-run television network to overcome his ‘fake news’ phenomenon, which is what exists in North Korea, the Soviet Union, etc., and his failure to censure Saudi Arabia for their involvement in the dismemberment of a U.S. journalist, one must wonder, what more can we expect from Trump.

“The substances attack certain protein channels and enzymes in the eyes, mucous membranes, and skin, causing the acute reaction.”

In adults, these chemicals cause severe burning of the eyes, nose, throat and face. But in children, this reaction can be even more painful. “Children will have more significant reactions, especially if they have a history of asthma, colds or allergies,” says Shapiro. “Any baseline inflammation will lead to more significant reactions to these agents.”

While there are no immediate treatments that can help with the symptoms, Shapiro says the best practice is to quickly remove any clothes that have been exposed and wash them with soap. Oral antihistamines, such as Benadryl, can also help “reduce tearing and skin itching,” she says, but rinsing eyes with water is

not necessarily helpful. “That may make symptoms worse,” Shapiro says.

Although studies on the long-term effects of tear gas on adults aren’t conclusive, Shapiro says that there is a great potential for children to face chronic issues after exposure.

“As with any airborne irritant, children are much more susceptible to acute and chronic injury. Their mucosa and skin and eyes are much more sensitive than those of adults, and these children are being exposed to the same dose of these toxic substances as are adults,” Shapiro tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Not only will they suffer more acute injury, [but] longterm damage to their skin, eyes and airways is [also] much more likely.”

She adds, “Long-term effects may include permanent skin burns, chronic breathing issues due to inflammatory response in the airways, corneal injury. It is absolutely horrific.”

Brown has been preaching frugality for years—he kicked off one past budget talk with Aesop’s fable about the thrifty ant and the lazy grasshopper.

His spending plan for 2018 calls for $131.7 billion of general fund spending. Including special funds and bonds, which are pools of restricted money that can only be used for specific projects; total proposed spending next fiscal year is $190.3 billion.

The governor’s budget document marks the start of roughly six months of negotiations with the Democratic-controlled legislature.

The state’s budget must be approved by June 15, so it can be enacted July 1.

Many in Brown’s party, which wields the power to raise taxes with two-thirds majorities in both state houses, have pushed for increased spending on social programs as the state has recovered from the last recession.

On Wednesday, Republicans called on the governor to return some of the budget surplus to voters—saying they were overtaxed.

Assemblyman Vince Fong, a Republican from Kern County and a former staffer of House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, said the forecast windfall was evidence that a gasoline tax increase passed by Democrats last year was unnecessary.

“We do not have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem,” Mr. Fong said.

“Taxpayers work hard for their income— we should work just as hard to protect it.”

State officials and economists said planning for the 2018-2019 budget cycle had

been particularly difficult this year.

They said state finances are facing a notably volatile period, given changes to federal tax law poised to hit California especially hard.

“I think there’s more financial uncertainty between Washington and Sacramento than in the past,” said Jerry Nickelsburg, director of the University of California, Los Angeles Anderson Forecast, and a leading forecaster.

California, along with other high-cost and high-tax states, is considering ways to lessen the impact of the federal tax overhaul, which will raise taxes on a significant number of high-earners in the state.

State senate leader Kevin de León introduced legislation last week that would allow California taxpayers to donate to a fund and deduct 100% of the donation, essentially turning state tax payments into a deductible charitable contribution.

Other Democratic-led states, including New Jersey, are considering similar tactics to push back against what their leaders see as an unfair politically motivated move by the Trump administration against blue states.

While Brown warned of a slowdown Wednesday, he also touted increased funding in the state’s public schools and infrastructure programs as well as his efforts to pay down debt taken on by previous administrations.

“One thing governors don’t like is to be presiding over a hemorrhaging budget because people do blame them,” Brown said. “And for that reason, if none other, we are going to keep this steady as we go.”

Inglewood may soon be getting a new hotel. The mayor and city council have approved a 120-room Tru by Hilton hotel at the corner of 111th Street and Prairie Avenue, near the future NFL Stadium for the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.

“As Inglewood grows and thrives, creating good jobs for our residents remains a top priority,” Inglewood Mayor James Butts said in a statement. “This hotel will serve our visitors well when they come to Inglewood, but more importantly, it will provide economic development dollars to the City and good jobs for our residents.”

Tru by Hilton is part of the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of hotel brands.

In addition to its 120 guest rooms, the hotel will have a market, fitness room and rooftop deck. A third of the hotel’s jobs will go to Inglewood residents. The hotel is expected to be completed in 2020.

It is just one of a handful of hotels in planning in Inglewood. The Hollywood Park Hotel, with 300 rooms, and the Lairport Hotel, with 128 rooms, are also in the planning stage, according to Atlas Hospitality Group.

Atlas is an Irvine-based hotel brokerage.

Los Angeles County homicide detectives are seeking help from the community as they investigate the death of a woman whose family said she was found nude in the street in Commerce over the weekend.

Catrina Ann Johnson, who just celebrated her 24th birthday last Wednesday, was discovered in the 6200 block of Nye Street around 6:10 a.m. on Saturday, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s officials and a news release from the Sheriff ’s Department.

Officials said an autopsy was pending to determine a cause of death for Johnson, described by her family as a young mother who had hopes of pursuing fashion once she could shift focus from caring for her infant son and ailing grandmother.

Sheriff ’s investigators have yet to release further details on the case, but loved ones said she turned up dead after going out Friday night.

“All I know is she went out with her friends to have a good time and she never came back home,” said her mother, Nicole Hall.

Hall said the friends her daughter went out with told her they saw Johnson get into a white pickup, but they don’t know who else was inside.

“The friends said they saw her and then all of a sudden — she’s there, she’s with her,

and then she disappears,” Hall said. “And then hours later they find her in the middle of the street.”

According to Hall, her daughter’s naked body was lying face down on Nye Street, as if she had been dumped there.

“They’re saying she was thrown out of a truck,” Hall told a local news outlet. “I don’t know how true that is, but she was just thrown in the middle of the street like she was garbage. And I just want somebody to answer for what they did.”

“She was the sweetest person in the world. She would give you her last,” Hall said. “She was always there for her sisters and brother.”

Johnson was from Crenshaw and graduated from Hamilton High School in Palms, where she played basketball. She had planned to next enroll at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising after her son got a little older.

Johnson’s loved ones have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help raise money to cover her memorial costs.
