Polls Show Clinton and Trump in a Dead Heat Why So Close? By Veronica Mackey

W

ith nine weeks to go until the big election, all eyes are turning toward Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. It’s shaping up to be a dirty fight to the finish between 2 very different candidates—each calling the other bigoted, unfit and shady. On Wednesday a CNN poll showed Trump 2 points ahead of Clinton—a surprising finding given the incendiary tone of Trump’s campaign. Trump tops Clinton 45% to 43% in the new survey, with Libertarian Gary Johnson standing at 7% among likely voters in this poll and the Green Party’s Jill Stein at just 2%. With Clinton more heavily favored among Hispanics, African Americans and other people of color; women, younger voters and college-educated whites, why is her opponent pulling ahead? Clinton enjoyed a 7 percent bump in the polls following the Democratic National Convention in July. Efforts to win favor among top
