THE DEPUTY CHAIRMAN
The Deputy Chairman
MESSAGE FROM Arthur Inglis
Inglis has over many past decades conducted various horse and livestock sales at Camden, St Marys and Homebush. Thomas Inglis (Father of William) was granted land in the Oaks, which is still held by Family members today. Since moving to Warwick Farm from our long-time Randwick base in mid 2017, it has been such a fascinating and exciting process settling into our new surrounds. We have been so kindly welcomed by our new neighbours and hope that we as a company have also contributed to the South West Sydney outlook. One of the most enjoyable parts of that journey has been the discovery of so many of the wonderful attractions this region has to offer.
4
Be it first-class dining at a smorgasbord of different nationalities, to golf courses, art and entertainment, live music or pubs and clubs, South West Sydney has so much cultural diversity for everybody to enjoy.
While I would always recommend the William Inglis Hotel, Newmarket Room Restaurant and the overall Riverside Stables precinct first and foremost for clients to frequent, we are surrounded by some fabulous other establishments. In this West booklet, we take a suburb-by-suburb look at some of the more tantalising options for you to try, be it food, drink or entertainment you are after. As you will discover, there is something for everybody and nothing is too far away. I urge you to have a read and take the time to do some visiting, should time and desire be on your side. While it’s always a busy sales season and there’s always plenty of horses to inspect on the grounds at Riverside, the team and I hope this book provides you and your clients some viable alternative options to try. Arthur Inglis

Insurance Brokers
INGLIS INSURANCE BROKERS
Investing in insurance for your horse is more than paying a premium. It’s about the quality of the service you receive and we pride ourselves on our reputation for professionalism and excellence. It is important in the specialised area of bloodstock insurance to have a knowledge of horses. Most of our consultants either own thoroughbred horses to breed or race or are involved in equestrian pursuits. We offer mortality insurance for foals, yearlings, racehorses and breeding stock and are also able to arrange optional covers such as veterinary costs associated with lifesaving surgery, the foetus of a pregnant mare or the infertility of a stallion at stud.
64
If you need to make an insurance claim this where we believe we can make a difference. We have competent people in this department who have a high degree of integrity, technical competence and excellent negotiating skills.
There is a claims process that needs to be followed and there are rules and regulations to be considered. However taking precedence over all other considerations is the welfare of the horse. If the pain cannot be controlled and it becomes inhumane to continue treatment, the horse is immediately euthanased. There are no exceptions. Specialist equine veterinarians are skilled in recognising when a horse’s vital signs (e.g. temperature, heart and respiration rates) indicate that “enough is enough.” The insurance division of Inglis has access to a network of specialist Insurers in Australia and overseas all with an A+ security rating. We have been arranging insurance cover and negotiating claim settlements since 1906. By insuring with us you also have the advantage of expertise and knowledge available throughout the entire company.

great deal of shade, something very much appreciated over the warmer months by the locals. Walking up along the main street you will pass by the former Blacktown Public School. . On the next block up, directly behind the Visitors Information Centre, you will come across the Max Webber Library. The library is one of the busiest libraries in Sydney and is designed with the community in mind. Architecture firm, FJMT Studio, designed the new library with the intentions of creating a ‘civic dam’ to create a public place for the whole community. Walking into the library you are met with a grand staircase leading upwards, with timber panelling covering the ceiling, creating wave-like motions. Blacktown has an array of architecture with some great examples of the ’60s and 70’s design, reflecting when the city centre really started to develop.
