racing upside In one preparation he has improved from a winning debut over 1400m on the 31st August 2023 to placing at Stakes level over 2200m and then running 4th in the G1 VRC Derby over 2500m. In just five career starts, his Timeform rating has jumped from 86 to 108. He is a versatile galloper who can win from 1400m to 2000m+ as evidenced by his impressive win on debut and his strong closing sectionals in all of his races. Kosgei is a contender for all the races in the Hong Kong Classic Series - the Hong Kong Mile, Hong Kong Classic Cup & Hong Kong Derby plus he has the ability to compete at open age G1 level. Successful Hong Kong performers who previously ran a top 6 placing in a Derby across Australia include: • • • • • • •

Werther (3-time G1 winner in Hong Kong and won Hong Kong Derby) Senor Toba (2-time G3 winner in Hong Kong and Hong Kong Derby 4th) Furore (won Hong Kong Derby & Classic Mile, 2-time Group winner and G1 placed in Hong Kong) Eagle Way (3-time Group winner in Hong Kong) Tourbillon Diamond (2-time G3 winner in Hong Kong) Thunder Fantasy (won Hong Kong Classic Cup) Dark Dream (2-time winner and Hong Kong Derby 4th)

His Timeform peak rating of 108 after five starts is similar to Hong Kong Derby winners in recent years - Romantic Warrior 109, Designs On Rome 109, Rapper Dragon 112 etc (after 5 career starts). Year

KOSGEI To whom it may concern, This gelding recently underwent a full HKJC pre-import veterinary examination by Dr Ben Mason and his examination report and medical images were sent to me as a HKJCAppointed Nominated Veterinarian for review. Having reviewed the images and Dr Mason’s report, my opinion is that the horse would be suitable to race in Hong Kong and would most likely enter as a Low Risk according to the current HKJC rating system. History and Clinical ExaminationDr Mason reported no relevant veterinary history. The horse was found to be fit and healthy with acceptable conformation. There was no pain on manipulation of the joints, flexor tendons and suspensory ligaments and no lameness was visible at baseline or after flexion tests. A blood sample has been submitted for routine drug screening and bisphosphonate testing. Endoscopic ExaminationThe gelding was galloped and no abnormal respiratory noise was heard as he galloped past Dr Mason. He was then restrained with a nose twitch and the upper airway structure was found to be normal on endoscopic examination. His laryngeal function was reported as grade 1 and no evidence of blood was visualised in the trachea after galloping. Radiographic ExaminationLF fetlock- there is mild bone reaction of the dorso-medial and dorso-lateral aspect of distal P1 which is of minimal clinical significance. There is a tiny osteophyte on the dorso-medial aspect of proximal P1 which is also of minimal clinical significance. RH fetlock- there are biaxial plantar P1 OCD fragments with the medial fragment measuring 7mm x 3mm and the lateral fragment measuring 14mm x 6mm. There is also a Type II osteochondral fragment of the plantaro-lateral aspect of proximal P1. Type II fragments are not reported to cause lameness and the findings in the RH fetlock are of minimal clinical significance.
