“From the place of normal clothing, denim has risen to be a fashion icon and is being adorned by fashion models. It has now become a symbol of modeling and modern culture. The metamorphosis of jeans from a commodity to a fashion item happened during the 90s; when jeans evaluated into a number of various other items such as jackets, shorts, skirts etc apart from the normal pants. Earlier different models like hippie bellbottoms, and tapered legs, were popular. Current trend is all about variety and views denim as an item with bold styles to keep pace with the fast track life style. http://www.fibre2fashion.com/

When was the store opened in Southampton? Sas - 10 years ago.

Was the store opened somewhere else? Sas - We were Ocean village before that, and then we were on Northen Road as well so we started in 1992.

What was the idea behind the store?

Sas - Originally we started selling ethnic gear, as my friend and me were travelling we use to buy stuff abroad and bring it back and sell it here. I love vintage, I use to go to the jumble sales, which were amazing. I had a collection myself, and then we met up with someone who sells vintage gear so we just started.

Where do you get your products from? Sas - Most of it is imported from the States but we also buy from the guy who goes to the garden sales beacuse it’s amazing what people throw out.

Do you get a lot of costumers? Sas - Our main age range is between 18-24 female but we also get whole range of people a lot of youngsters anyone who’s kind of stayed into their fashion. I think if people like their fashion they carry on and don’t get bored of it. I mean i sold 90quid stuff to 70year old the other day, so it’s all age range.

How often do you get new delivery? Sas - I would say about twice a week.

Are you enjoyng working here and why?

Sas - Yeah i really like it, I can’t imagine a better job really unless you’re a really amazing lawyer or something, haha do you know what I mean? like job satisfactionby helping people, but yeah other than that it’s a great job.

When was the store opened in Southampton? Sas - Umm I would say in the autumn because of all the new students.

10

What type of music do you enjoy the most? Sas - Omg, loads I wouldn’t say genres but loads of bands. Umm we play a lot of older stuff but then i mean this morning i’ve been playing Black Keys as well as The Shins... it’s usualy not the charts music, because I think when people come here they dont want to listen to charts stuff.

Are most of the clothing original vinatge or re-made? Sas - Most of it is vintage but we do sell stuff that we worked on.

what do you usualywear out of work? Sas - Same as at work no difference at all, we dont have a specific uniform it’s just our styles.

Would you wear any of the clothing you have at your store? Sas - Well, yes half of my wardrobe is vintage and half contemporaty same with Mandy and Mitch, so we mix and match a bit.

Do you get any returns, and what’s your return policy? Sas - We only do exchanges beacuse we’re a higher shop, we wouln’d have a higher business if we did returns because obviously they would buy it and return it, so we kind of have to do exchange, but most of people are happy about that and they understand it. Also we’ve got no time limit on our credit notes so they can spend it in to year’s time if they want to.

Did the number of costumers changed between now and 4years ago? Sas - Vintage on a hiher level at the moment, I’d say very popular comparing to time ago. But then we still did vinatage beacuse you always get people that are going to be into vintage overall, and now it might just became a norm beacuse people accept it. I mean 10, 20 years ago people wouldnt even dream about wearing that stuff but now with recycling and working and all that we all realised it’s greener more environmentally to wear and I think it’s more acceptable.

CONFUSED? Don’t know what to wear for the upcoming festival?

?

Bored of clothes in your wardrobe

Nothing to worry about! We gathered few inspirations for upcoming summer festivals that you’ll fall in love with. And advice from a professional stylist will always lead you to a higher level in fashion without even spending a lot of money or not even spending money at all!

It’s always better to look fashionable and feel good!

33

Simple This can be simply solved, you can consider restyling the garment that you’ve grown tired of or you feel like it’s not so fashionable anymore. There is a range of ways to restyle it, such as adding embellishment or totally altering the clothing into something else, or to have a neater and better fit. There is a lot of possibilities for your fabric to be reused again, so don’t think it’s a waste and just throw it away, but be creative and make something personalised. Also from saving an old garment you can keep logos and images, save resources to make new brilliant things! In the denim world it is normally either about American or Japanese; about looking for a specific union special machine to recreate a superior vintage look, or about capturing an authentic feel.
