b. Short movie: road show to Elementary & Junior High Schools

BACKGROUND Why Does The London School of Public Relations-Jakarta care about Autism? The London School of Public Relations – Jakarta (LSPR) an Institution for higher education which offers communication study programme was triggered to conduct a campaign on Autism awareness and educate the public on how to care about Autism. Therefore, the campaign was initiated in 2008 and will continue as part of LSPR’s community relations and educational programs for the Indonesian public to gain knowledge/information. The main slogan of the campaign is “LSPR Cares for Autism” and all the programs are implemented and led by a special division of The London School Centre for Autism Awareness (LSCAA), established and founded by Ibu Prita Kemal Gani in July 2008. Current data released by UNESCO indicates that the number of Autistic Children has increased over the last 10 years. Out of every 1000 Indonesians 8 are Autistic which shows that the number of cases in Indonesia is higher than the world statistics of 6 in every 1000. (Radius & Mulyadi, 2011) Thus, there is a greater need for support to create autism awareness and programs in Indonesia must be increased and implemented.

“Autism and Friends” OBJECTIVE

When reviewing the situation and based on the limited information on Autism available for the public in Indonesia, especially in the capital city, Jakarta, LSPR is keen to campaign and provide some input based on the results and research findings during the campaign. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE CAMPAIGN ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. To create understanding about Autism in society, so that people with Autism can be accepted in the society 2. By explanation and understanding about Autism, we can create awareness amongst parents and educators, to help identify the symptoms of Autism, so people living with Autism can immediately get any therapy needed or be treated comprehensively 3. To educate the public about Autism through various media and programs 4. To share the ‘Cares for Autism’ among LSPR management, lecturers, students and staff 5. To give information about autism to the public from professional speakers on autism, such as psychiatrist, psychologist, therapist, teachers, nutritionist, etc 6. To open free access for those who need information about Autism but lack the resources to know and learn further about it 7. To show to the public the talents of children with autism in music, vocal and performances.
