Diploma in Managerial Public Relations Background Public Relations is considered as proactive, dynamic and as having strategic functions to connect with the interests of an organisation and its publics. It is now recognised that the needs and values of Public Relations are widely practiced as a vital function of management and it is seen as the overarching communication factor that enables organisations to achieve corporate objectives. It is widely recognised that PR operates in a very challenging environment, which is why many professionals from various fields are shifting to practicing PR although not having received an appropriate background in PR or in communications as a whole. This executive programme is designed, created and prepared by the London School of Public Relations Jakarta. It is designed for professionals who need suitable PR programmes in order to enhance their competencies in practicing Public Relations. It is an intensive course which focuses on building experience and giving an understanding of PR applications, with complete theoretical support. Certificate in Public Relations This course is an introductory programme designed for persons who are starting out in a PR Career or for those aspiring to become PR Professionals. This course will be taught by experienced communications professionals who can expertly impart their knowledge and experience. Higher Certificate in Public Relations This programme focuses on PR designed for participants who have been in the PR field for three years and who have been working as a PR Executive /Account Executive or for those who have been newly promoted as a PR Manager or Account Manager. It is also suitable for those who have attended the Introductory Course: the Training and Development Programme Leading to the PR Profession. This course equips participants with an in-depth understanding of the functions of Public Relations, with an emphasis on the strategies and analytical thinking required for achieving an organisation’s goals. General Objectives: a. To be able to gain an in-depth insight into PR functions and responsibilities that will address clients’ expectations and relationships. b. To equip students with techniques on how to formulate strategies which are effective and relevant to the objectives and goals of the organisation. c. Topics include Strategic Issues Management, Crisis Communication, International Public Relations and Integrated PR. General Objectives a. Public Relations activities involve some or all of the following: - Programme Planning Analysing problems and opportunities, defining goals, recommending and planning activities, and measuring results. - Writing and Editing Since Public Relations tasks often consists of trying to reach large groups of people, it relies mostly on printed materials – shareholders’ reports, annual reports, news releases, feature articles, film scripts, speeches, booklets, newsletters, etc. - Media Relations Developing and maintaining a good working relationship with the media, which includes applying knowledge of how local and national newspapers, magazines, radio, and television function. - Corporate Identity Developing and maintaining an organisation’s identity via corporate advertising, presenting the company’s name and reputation rather than its products. - Speaking Communicating effectively with individuals and groups in meetings, presentations, and platform participation.

A sound knowledge of techniques for its supervision is necessary. - Research and Evaluation The first activities undertaken by a Public Relations practitioner is usually to gather facts and to analyse them. A PR programme is usually evaluated with a continuous process, and commensurate measurement is used to decide future strategy. - Organising Events News conferences, exhibitions, celebrations, competitions and award programmes are used to gain the attention of specific groups.
