At Woolpower we have made base layers and mid layers from merino wool ever since 1972, all the way from the yarn to the completed garment. When one of our seamstresses is satisfied with a garment, he or she marks it with her name. This is both a quality seal as well as a reminder that behind each garment is a real person. But sometimes, the garment doesn’t quite work out as the seamstress plans, so the nametag is cut off. To the untrained eye the mistake is often difficult to spot, and the functionality is still the same. These are the garments we sell in our factory outlet as imperfect goods, at a reduced price.
WELCOME TO OUR OUTLET FACTORY
To visit us, take the number 9 bus (Stadsbuss) from Östersund train station or town centre, direction Lillänge Shopping centre (köpcentrum), and get off at the Bilprovningen bus stop. A warm welcome to Woolpower woolpower.se

The Northern A mythical collision between solar winds and the atmosphere
Suddenly, the night’s inky-blackness begins to move. Green shadows appear, billowing like a delicate curtain caught by the wind. The show lasts for several breath-taking minutes, maybe hours, and can vanish as quickly as it came. The northern lights have made their entrance. The natural phenomenon that is the northern lights has fascinated and captivated – but also frightened – people throughout history. Many of us dream of experiencing a really impressive show of northern lights, perhaps even a corona, but that requires both patience and luck. The northern nights, or the aurora borealis, are closely associated with the sun. They occur when a solar wind is hurled towards the Earth, hitting the atmosphere. In the atmosphere, these electrically charged particles collide with gas particles and are charged with extra energy. This energy produces a striking light display in the form of curtains, arcs or rays. During a very active display, a corona can appear, which is when the northern lights flow down towards the earth as if from a shower. The northern lights are often pale green, but can also be red, blue or purple. Their colour depends on the type of molecules that the sun’s particles collide with. Oxygen molecules at a low altitude create pale green northern lights, while oxygen molecules at a high latitude create red light. Nitrogen molecules emit a blue or purple light.
In Sweden, your greatest chances of seeing the northern lights are on clear nights from October to March, when the nights are darkest. Your chances also increase the further north you travel. In this connected world, there are apps and websites that provide forecasts for the northern lights and show the sun’s activity. The more solar activity, the greater the chance of a northern lights show. It was actually as recently as the 1950s that a scientific explanation for the northern lights was developed, and questions still remain to be answered. These include why the northern lights occur more frequently around the autumn and spring equinoxes. It is therefore easy to understand how, for thousands of years, imagination, superstition and fear have been given free rein when interpreting them. The northern lights were attributed with great power and significance, being associated with everything from illness and death to happiness and success. Beautiful northern lights are worth waiting for. The fact that each display of northern lights is unique makes the experience incredibly special, every time. So whether you believe in science or are attracted by mysticism, the northern lights inspire reverence. Emelie Strand

Lights Myths about the northern lights The Sami peoples of northern Scandinavia believed that the northern lights were energy from the souls of their ancestors and they should be revered when they occurred. Behaving disrespectfully could lead to disease, or even death.
Beautiful flickering northern lights above Frösö Church.
The native peoples of central North America feared the northern lights because they believed they were the souls of dead enemies who had returned to avenge themselves. Swedish fishermen looked forward to seeing them, because they believed the light was the reflection of gigantic shoals of fish swimming nearby. For them, the northern lights brought happiness and the promise of good catches.
Norhern Lights over Östersund A northern lights arc with clear drapery.
Did you know?
A corona with an unusual amount of red.
• The northern lights form around the poles because the earth’s magnetic field attracts the particles to the poles. • The northern lights occur all year, but the summer nights in the north are too light for us to see them. • The southern hemisphere’s equivalent to the northern lights is called the southern lights. Northern lights and southern lights occur at the same time and are almost exact mirror images. • Northern lights occur on other planets, such as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Mars.

Discover Inlandsbanan on the Wilderness Train In summer 2019 three different Wilderness trains will run on Inlandsbanan, all with different themes. In addition to an unforgettable journey through inland Sweden, we will stop along the way to discover the rich cultural offerings of the northern parts of Sweden. Common to all three trips is travelling in old 1st class carriages, with restaurant and bar, all owned by Sweden’s railway museum. One day the train will be pulled by a steam locomotive. Food will be served in the trains’ own restaurant carriage with white linen cloths with a fabulous view, or at a local restaurant. Some of the trips include hotel accommodation, others offer living quarters onboard the train in comfortable and classic first class carriages. More information about the Wilderness Train will be published on Inlandbanan’s website: www.inlandsbanan.se.

Inlandsbanan – past, present and future Inlandsbanan’s vision is to be a driving force that develops the rural areas along the railway, and thus contributing to strengthening the whole of Sweden’s future. With the tracks’ strategic location through Sweden’s most commodity-rich regions and northern Europe’s last wilderness, we offer a complete infrastructure for both passenger and freight traffic. Strengthening local industries and military relief lines When Inlandsbanan was constructed, the basic idea was to build a main line in an area rich in natural resources but with poor or nonexistent communications. In wartime it was to be an important military relief line for the northern main line trafficking the coast. The railway lines that form Inlandsbanan were built step by step, by private interests and by the Swedish state, in the years 1873-1937. The last link in Inlandsbanan, Arvidsjaur – Jokkmokk, was opened for public traffic 7 August 1937, after Crown Prince Gustav Adolf inaugurated the whole distance in Kåbdalis the previous day. Both freight and passenger traffic on Inlandsbanan of today Inlandsbanan is an important part of Sweden’s infrastructure. We are therefore working with a long-term strategy for developing the railway and the municipalities through which the railway passes. We are proud of the railway’s historical significance while we take responsibility for managing and developing it in line with today’s requirements and needs. Inlandsbanan accounts for 10 percent of Sweden’s total railway network. We manage the track on behalf of the state, and it is a well maintained infrastructure based on the conditions given. It is our employees you meet during your trip, both on board and along the track. We run tourist traffic every summer for ten weeks, as well as a winter week. During the winter there are daily passenger trains between Östersund and Mora. Charter trips have also increased in recent years. On the freight side, transport takes place all year round, mainly with forest raw materials and peat. Other operators also conduct business on Inlandsbanan. The future has never looked brighter The increasing demand for holiday train journeys together with the interest in outdoor activities, nature tourism and the environment is good news for Inlandsbanan. In addition, the scenic north and the Arctic region are yet unexplored destinations for most holiday makers. In Norrland there is much taken for granted by locals, for example the midnight sun, northern lights, the arctic circle, amazing natural experiences, Sami culture and culinary delights. Not to mention clean water and air, a sparsely populated region, civil rights and security, all of which make Norrland a very attractive tourist destination. In the near future, we see that Inlandsbanan can be fully modernized and completely integrated with the other Swedish railway network suffering from capacity shortage. The motive for a refurbishment of the track is to create better conditions for freight traffic but it also means that an extension of tourist and regular traffic becomes possible, which in turn leads to rural development and even better opportunities for the tourist industry to develop. As a result, Inlandsbanan is involved in solving many of the challenges in rural areas in terms of jobs, public transport, trade and service. Facts Inlandsbanan:
